Run a hosepipe over it man...

Might dissolve. Needs a very careful look underneath these can go really badly.

Seats non-original but probably better. Like all Rootesmobiles of the era looks like it's had generously applied filler in the past.

Fun phact:

The bodies were made by Pressed Steel - probably at their Cowley factory - then shipped to Thrupp and Maberley in London for painting and trimming - the bodies were then shipped to the main Rootes assembly hall at Ryton-on Dunsmoor near Coventry - to have their mechanics fitted - and then on to the dealers or export*.

Phew.

* I think I have that right. Rootes seemed to develop these convoluted supply chains - Imp engines went miles too.

BMC likewise.  Bits of bodyshells made in different plants and trucked all over the place before assembly and painting.  And of course, at no time were they left out in the rain...

The Imp engine was something equally daft, like cast in Scotland, shipped off to the Midlands for machining, then back to Scotland for assembly.

Have we had this Riley RME with a BIN of £312 yet? Needs saving from the track...

That's so offensive looking they should have their driving licence taken off them.

£300/offers. Failed MOT, but only on one shock absorber. Are they that bad/expensive to replace? Mind you, does have other faults.

Pretty sure this spec is standard springs and dampers not magic carpet French.

I have that 2.2 donk in my Mondeo and it's a peach.

It's a bargain. Looks like it's been under cover until recently. The RME deleted the running boards and added spatted rear wings and bigger back window to 'modernise' the shape. They are a real Lego car - should all go back together gradually.

Prices of these Rileys seem on the wane as those wanting them thin in numbers too.

That's definitely on hydraulic suspension - you can see the spheres in the under bonnet photo.

Should be able to get hold of a second hand strut easily enough and they're like replacing a normal shock absorber but without having to wrestle with a coil spring.
The first one I did took me 2 hours.
The second one less than half that.
A sphere removal tool is worth getting hold of beforehand though.

It's a bit of an odd one. Looks to have been stripped of dash, chrome etc - I wonder if it was painted a few years back, never put back together and stored since? It still had MOT in 2012 so it's not like it's been off the road for 40 years. Silly cheap, anyway.
