My dad had one of those on a P plate; The 1.4l engine they used must have been ancient at the time. I remember thinking it sounded clattery a.f. even at just three years old. A few years later we had a ‘98 Mégane Scenic with the 1600cc engine and that was much more refined.

I love that thing, though when new I wouldn't have given it a second thought. As a cheap winter beater I can't think of anything better.

It’s a clarion, says right in the front of it 😁

In the late 70’s they were the only company to offer car audio separates systems.  Did well off it. They were never seen as good as pioneer or alpine back in the 70’s & 80’s and early 90’s, but a  good clarion mid level set up was just as good as the others mentioned for less  money usually. Before PSA got it together to brand the stereo systems with their own names, a lot of factory fit (and also dealer  fit options) we’re clarion branded stuff.

So it does!😂 I completely missed that. Had a Clarion in my Mk5 Cortina, back in the day,  with Audioline graphic equaliser, until the whole centre console was ripped out by a thieving scrote, after busting the door lock. It sounded great, up to them.

@sutty2006 will no doubt know better than I but I recall blending Manta 400 arches is frowned upon.

50's austerity motoring at it simplist. No opening boot lid - luggage is loaded via the folding rear seat - though this one has the decadent luxury of winding windows and twin windscreen wipers - earlier ones didn’t.

Always overshadowed by the Austin A30/5 and Morris Minor.

I think I prefer the early ones with less chrome! They did their best to keep the 8 as simple and affordable as possible.

That’s wild.

Even so looks smashing valu to me for dependable-ish ‘50s motoring. Would.
