Did I dream it, or was there a bASe Calibra that came with steelies and wheel covers?

I’m sure I remember them with wheel covers.

That model variant also had the lowest (of an already low ) coefficient of drag.

"ANTONY VALENTINE THE CAMPER NERD"

Sounds like he would fit in round these parts!

That’s superb..

Apologies if a re-post, but I've always liked the idea of owning one of these (although will probably never have the nerve to do it!)...

My boss had the same wheel trims on his company car. A red mk3 cavalier SRi. I guess it was early enough (1989) to have the 130 SEH 8V engine.

Quite a few early Mk3  SRis had that (brilliant) engine and wheel trims. IIRC, later on they were C20XE or Ecotec.

when calibre launched the vx dealer i worked at had an 8v in red as a demonstrater - lost loads of sales when folk saw the dash was late cavvy  and was IIRC grand dearer too

I was always disappointed by that too.

That's super-nice! A pretty good price too I reckon.

More basic than mine, but I'd suggest in better condition and just a third of the mileage. Just a 4-speed 'box, but the 2-litre 'six' revs nicely - I used to drive my previous-gen Laurel with the same engine/gearbox combo faster than I do my current 2.4 and 5-speed.
