Greatly pleased with my efforts, I reattached it and engaged first gear.

Phwoar. That is a splendid knob.

Excellent work on this, would be a shame to see you have to move it on.

The terrible running issues were investigated by poking things and wobbling things, hoping that something would be visibly and obviously wrong.

This metal clip holding the carb air feed cap thing was undone (pretend I've circled it for clarity)

This air filter housing connection was found to be loose.

I tightened both.

It made absolutely no difference at all.

The poor running was deemed (by me and people that know me) to be beyond my ability to diagnose.

Back to the garage it went.

I picked it up with little confidence that issues would be fully resolved but took it out for a decent punt.

Sound ON to hear the TU ROAR!!!!

After driving round for about an hour, everything seems well bar a couple of small splutters.

It pulls like an absolute fish and trains like a Swiss great.

Good craic re resolving the misfire , nice when things are simple/quick to sort.

This doesn't seem to have caused too much trouble for a vehicle of that age so far... Just about every car I've ever bought has spent the first few months metaphorically shooting me with shit- I see it like taking on a rescue dog, they may have had troubled lives and suffered unknown abuse in previous homes, with love and care they come right in the end.

That's a nice perspective to have man. Great way of looking at it. Think I've been somewhat spoiled with good fortune. Ive gotten used to £400 cars that just work fine. It's a fantastic old car that's barely run in really and hopefully now it's had most of the major service bits attended to, it'll be a happy puppy.

That's good, because obviously I've bought it.

Grid charging conditions the battery a bit and extends service life.

If you're seriously interested @hairnet, I can shoot you my phone number over for a chat.

Slight use hasn't bothered this one, but leaving it sat still for 6 months might put one in a mood. Nothing that a charge and resumption of use wouldn't solve though.

@Asimo and @jonny69 can probs advise you better than me mind.

The ever spinning carousel of material delights has completed its 6 month rotation and I'm very skint again.

Shame. Should sell quickly. Stick an advert on here and maybe get first refusal on having it back when circumstances improve.

Grid charging. The batteries in these are all old gits now. A grid charger is just a mains charger for the hybrid battery, for use when the battery gets out of balance and starts to throw errors. You can cycle the battery by charging, discharging and recharging a couple of times. This re-balances the battery and you'll get most of the original capacity and performance back. Honda never made chargers or specified charge/discharge routines, so all grid chargers are either aftermarket or home made.

They prefer to be used but it doesn't do it a lot of harm sitting. Mine has sat for over a year when I couldn't be bothered to sell it and then 5 months over lockdown. I'd say using it every day is fine, once a week is fine, once every two weeks is pushing it a bit if the battery is a bit tired but will probably be fine, once every 3 weeks is probably not enough, once a month will probably make it force charge itself quite a lot and might hit fuel economy. You can just start them up after they've been standing. I put a new 12V battery on mine after it had sat for 14-16 months and it just started on the hybrid battery and ran like I'd last used it the day before. Probably because Honda. Self-charged itself for a bit to see where the battery was and then ran as normal like nothing had happened. But it's kinder on the hybrid battery if you can trickle charge it first if it has been standing for months.

Buy the bastard.

Sometimes the first time you see a car you just want to buy it. You just want to sit in it and beep the horn. Sometimes you see a car and it just seems right and good. And if you're lucky, and good people are nice to you, you might end up owning it.

Here is the tale of one such car.

With the roffle Insight drifting off gently into scotland, it was time to source a new steed.  I remember when @davehedgehog31 picked this car up, I thought it was an absolute winner and decided if he ever chose to sell it, I'd dash straight to the top of the queue.

I'd sold a car and now I needed a car. The stars moved a bit in the sky. The fantastic @sdkrc had to come from Scotland to pick up the Insight. He happened to reside not too far from this absolute gem.

The starts shifted slightly again.

I asked @davehedgehog31 if he would consider selling it (not for the first time) and after some discussion, he was kind enough to pick a number that was conducive to all.

All the stars aligned an a brace of trumpets played an angelic fanfare.

I said woohoo.

Departing Scotland^

Brave @sdkrc travelled seven hours through the night round trip to swap the cars round.

Then I did a celebration breakdance which ended in this exact stance.

I took it out for a spin today and I absolutely love it.

It has so much character, and it's imperfections dig under your skin like little hooks of character that just make be love it more. It's right under my skin.

I mean look at it.

Always keep one period Peugeot rubber mat in stock just in case you happen to buy an old pug. That's my motto.
