10yr challenge

10 years ago in 2009 I wasn’t so good at taking car photos. I think some were lost in the great hard drive fuck up of 2014.

Anyway 2009 I swapped one of these:

For one of these in 2.4JTD flavour.

(Which turned out to be clocked and a less good than it looked) It was the first petrol head choice I had made of a car I actually wanted!!

10 years later and the fleet has expanded somewhat!

I prefer now... but I’d have an Alfa again...

2009 chez silvers had a Vauxhall vibe

2019 is better but not completely cured of the Vauxhall affliction

The Zafira is still here (17 years and counting!), the Maxi arrived in 2016 and the Renault a year later. Only one car has come and gone in the last decade: the Corsa was replaced by a Hyundai Getz that my sister now has.

Loved this Corsa a lot - 1500 TD But redundancy pay bought a newer car. Regretted selling it afterwards.

10 year challenge verdict - 100s of cars later 0/10 must try harder

Is that Martin Buckley in the first photo? I presume you are the other chap. I really liked Buckley's articles and would religiously buy Classic Cars magazine because of them. Then he 'defected' to Classic & Sports Car, which meant I ended up buying both. Buckley seemed to like the same stuff I did at the time. I remember reading about him buy a Lagonda Rapide (beautiful 1960s thing with DB5 engine) - they were just about 'affordable' then. It would now be possible after a Premium Bond win.

I need to up my game.

Around 10 years ago:

Current:

40-F32-A38-6-FBA-460-B-ACDC-F68-F49-F7-C

The biggest mistake in between was selling this:

8-ABC2-BD3-7123-4874-BA11-456-CC041-D46-

0-ECE1-F62-04-EE-43-BE-9-E30-B26-DC8-FA9

EE071-D9-E-F7-D5-4-B01-9753-8-B1-BDED0-E

Miss 3.0 6 pot diesel every day.

End of this year I will have finished my bank loan so will be completely debt free, also should have had a 3-5k pay rise so I’m planning on chod arriving again. Had to be sensible the past couple of years because adult.

2009 was the first trip to France to buy a car. I can't remember which classic went to make way for it as I can't find any photo's older than these, but as a first blind ebay purchase it was pretty good.

Also with one of many Discoveries I have had over the years, this one was bought 2 days before I left to collect the Panhard from Toulon in the south of France. The Panhard stayed a year or so then moved on. Unfortunatly my mate in the picture also passed on last year which was pretty gutting as he was a great friend. I saw him in the pub just as I was setting off to collect the Panhard and asked if he fancied a little road trip. He finished his pint went home and grabbed his passport and we were off. He just left a note for his mrs saying he would be back late.

I also had this for a very short time as it was awful to drive.

It resurfaced last year at the James Hull auction so is still going.

2019 Starts with the 806 still going strong.

The Seat is still here and up for sale which is pretty unlikely.

post-5515-0-68854500-1548406994_thumb.jpg

The Thunderturd also for sale and the most likely car to leave this year.

post-5515-0-49011200-1548407059_thumb.jpg

Finally the little Solex which is now registered.

Yes I bought that w123 200 off him. We went to his car shed and had a good look around, had a good nose around the Lagonda (and if memory serves the Monica but that might be me superimposing reading of staff cars articles on the experience)

So long as you don't shatter the dream that he is a decent, if slightly gruff Northerner. ;-)

2009 I think I possibly had this:

f5f0d837d5f6970381d503a3987046f6.jpg

Followed by innumerable steel framed Raleighs

2019:

5efa5bcac2c2efbea5f18494eafee3aa.jpg

The 205 and the 850 are mine, incredibly the 850 is the most powerful car there.

Also jointly own a 1.4 16v clio track project, but as my friend has bought a Civic VTi and I have big 205 plans that's surplus to requirements and will likely go to the scrappy in the sky before long as it needs far too many small jobs to be viable as even a stopgap car.
