Big bump at entirely the wrong time of the year. Hears two from early last year (not the coldest winter granted). Probably my all time favourite van (now dead) and cf DAF shunter with the big block (and a bit of bonus bush). First gear and that fecker will climb the side of the mill at tickover ?

I'd forgotten about this, but with this thread in mind I grabbed one of the van on a winter's day which was hovering roughly around freezing.

Not exactly arctic temperatures but chilly enough.

Not cold weather, admittedly, but this was a cold start of my Princess following a carb rebuild combined with a very weak mixture, bad points, timing 15 degrees out, a knackered battery and a blown exhaust.

Enjoy.

Suffice to say, since all those issues were resolved cold starts are now quite boringly instant.

The sound of that cranking over and over and over until the battery was flat sounds like every middle-England driveway in the early 70s*,  every single morning.

 

*So I'm lead to believe.  I didn't witness it myself.

I’ve actually watched that before, I love the sheer drama and will it won’t it start related tension.

I will try and rope Mrs w into videoing my old Landy firing up. It’s still got the battery it had when Tony Blair swept to power so it usually gets started on the handle.

Bah. I’m on lates this week. Fingers crossed though once winter sets in there should be ample opportunity for some cold start Cummins NT or Perkins TWH action.
