I replaced a rusted fuel tank strap in my '96 Laguna for its MOT back in 2014 using a strip of drilled galvanised steel, cut with a hacksaw and bent to size before refitting using new fasteners and some rubber pads. It was one of the more straightforward jobs I've carried out on that car. Three MOTs later, still sound and no issues.

HID MOT fail after May unless full headlight unit fitted.

As per last mot I swopped back to standard bulbs as it only takes 10 minutes then put hids back after. A minor problem and at least you can see in the dark.

I want to fit a retro car phone to my Safrane 1993/94 I would rather not have to drill holes for phone holders and only want it for appearance,what would be a period phone to buy?,I like the look of the brick style car phones but I think they might be more 1980s?

Renault have had a connection with Philips over the past years so maybe a Philips car phone....

I have an original Renault portable TV in the back so a nice retro phone would be a good match.

If you don't want to damage trim, Brodit still list a Safrane mount - special order though, and not cheap for a small bracket.

LED replacements are better than HID in my experience.

Im going to need an in-line electric fuel pump for the Panda engine swap. There are many and various for sale on ebay, but I have a pierberg one sitting in the garage, although it was off a td4 Freelander. 

Will a diesel pump cope with pumping petrol? Will it turn into a flame thrower? will it miss the lubrication of diesel?

 

Looking at the ebay stuff, its all over the place, some adverts say pez, some say dizz, some say both.....

Also, do these pumps prefer to be sucking or pushing...ie better in the engine bay drawing fuel from the tank and along the lines, or better at the back pushing the fuel through?

What pump did the Cinq use ? It will be a high pressure one for fuel injection but what one to go for I have no idea.

The cinq has an in-tank pump and I dont want to get into trying to modify the Panda tank to take it, hence needing an in-line thing,

 

I found the spec for the cinq pump is min 110litres/hour and 1.1bar pressure. Everything I have seen for sale seems to be 3 bar pressure....Im guessing this is max rating? there is a pressure regulator and return line to the tank so too much shouldnt be a problem as long as its not so much that its at risk of popping off the clamps etc.

I wouldn't use a pump that's only rated for diesel. There is a lot of aftermarket pumps and adjustable fuel pressure regulator kits available for classic cars. Both for feeding carbs and aftermarket injection conversions.

All I can tell ya is when I've had both fitted to the bike they've gone through MOTs ok.

 

LEDs seem to give a better beam pattern to me and don't appear to run as hot which is handy with the lack of space in a bike's headlight.

Even the expensive Philips aftermarket LED bulbs are not E-marked, so don't meet construction regs and hence not legal for road use.

Worth knowing. Absolutely anything would be an improvement on the pathetic item on the front of my Honda moped so I may look into it. Straight swaps, or any wiring improvements required?

Straight swap, plugs direct into the loom. The ones I've got look longer as the ballast is built into the back of the unit, but they aren't actually any longer than a H4 with the multiplug attached so still fit in the headlamp bowl.

 

Strange whirring sound off them until you start the engine to drown it from the cooling fan. I did wonder what was broke the first time I turned it on.

No badge available as is just an engine. Was hoping there was something visible on outside.

The 2.1 engine looks different to the 1.9 though. Under bonnet of Peugeot it says 2.1 12v on inlet.

If you know what the smaller engine looks like, there's not much chance of mistaking the two. If you don't, then the 12v on the cam cover helps and the thermostat is high up behind the head instead of low down to the front.

His 305 van has got a engine in it, which he was told was a 2.1 n/a diesel. Didn't see car it came out from so wanted to see if was an obvious difference.

Those 2.1s are super-strong, beautifully efficient engines. The finest 4 pot dizzler by far, for me. They feel as tough as an OM602/3 and are very smooth (for an online four).

3m double sided foam adhesive body tape, along with making sure both surfaces are absolutely clean with a decent solvent
