bramz7 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Look on the bright side - at least the low coolant light works on yours, as they're mostly knackered these days (especially if yours has the black square-ish expansion tank) Worth checking carefully for leaks (there's a lot of coolant pipework on them, some of which is difficult to see/check) and resolving, as whilst XUD's are hardy old things, in turbo form particularly they will suffer OMGHGF if run low on coolant. Excessively pressuring the cooling system is the usual giveaway as they'll usually still run well in the early stages of HGF. I agree with the knackered CV diagnosis - the base model type joints used on the TD models aren't particularly long lasting at the best of times, and prolonged running with a split boot will have almost certainly killed it - they knock badly when they're dead. The CV isn't easily replaced, but it's the same driveshaft as used on the N/A diesel models so easily sourced. PS. replace the diff seal as a matter of course when you replace the shaft as they're pretty notorious for leaking if reused.Thank you. My other halfs dad has some ramps so I will get it on those and have a look. I might actually SORN it and make it a fixer upper as it's actually a really nice thing to drive, and a non ruined DTURBO YO 205 may be a rare thing one day.

TS Na, it's in this picture I found under heating control/ AC stuff. In the picture it is the part that is to the far right which doesn't have a number allocated! https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/heizung-klimaanlage/bmw-628-csi-m635-csi-e24/katalogbild-64-45.html It sits under the dash/ steering area and what that pic doesn't show is the vacuum line running direct to the manifold. I think I'm going to have to pull it out and get a part number off it, sure I done that though once with no results/ didn't look hard enough.

Wack Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I bought a running, working, OK battery compressor battery jump starter from a boot sale only the compressor stopped with a gnashing plastic gears sound, took it all to bits , the crankshaft runs through a bush, doesn't look worn but it's really loose and wobbles which is why the gears don't work, would it just be grease that takes up the slack, can't be bothered screwing it all back together if it's not going to work, I'll just attach the battery terminals and leave it as a battery starter
Crispian_J_Hotson Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Have you looked on here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do Ben Numerous times pal. I found the pic of it on there but it has even less info displayed. Interestingly it appears with stuff for an additional heater and mine doesn't have anything like that, or AC. It would seem that most of these weird add ons were hardly ever fitted here... An air bag option in 1986 was 3grand! I have a reference to this 'deliberate air leak' in a motronic testing and service document but no reference to what the part is called! Mines been busted by some past goon owner. It's an air temp sensor of sorts with the air being drawn in via vacuum from the inlet and the ECU knows it's there. I have nearly finished the overhaul and this bit is eluding me so far... Curses!
tommytwo Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 My 2002 Moneo Mk3 Estate is currently not getting much use. I went to the car tonight to take something out. It appeared to unlock OK and I took an item out and locked the doors. I tried the front passenger door and it was locked. I tried the rear door and it was open. What surprised me was that the alarm did not go off. Thinking the battery might be getting low, I unlocked the car, started the engine and it fired up straight away, no sign that the battery was weak.. Again, I locked the door, tried the passenger door, fine but the rear door remained unlocked. Again, the alarm did not sound. Is it likely that the problem is caused by damp? How come the alarm does not sound? Any way to test the alarm?
forddeliveryboy Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 fuel economy - is it possible to re program an older car with more modern tech to get better MPG's? how much is the ecu doing? I've yet to use cars of similar size and speed which have fuel economy as good as my 90s V70, Audi 80 or A6 (older version). They're also tough, simple and long-lasting. More so than more modern offerings. Lacquer Peel 1
Crispian_J_Hotson Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 No. 2 here?: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=5362-EUR-06-1986-E24-BMW-635CSi&diagId=13_0207 Ben Nope. It's an internal sensor. I'll get a pic up, but then I'll have the part number too so...

I just left mine as a jump pack as the batteries seem pretty decent. Wack 1

Again, the alarm did not sound. Is it likely that the problem is caused by damp? How come the alarm does not sound? Any way to test the alarm? My Passat does the same intermittently, either the lock itself or the wiring to the door hinge. As someone asked above, does the light come on from the faulty door? It's possible there is an open circuit so the light won't work and the car will not know the door is open/sound the alarm. The interior motion sensors (if any) may not operate until the alarm has been armed for a while to stop false alarms from swinging Magic Tree™ air fresheners.
Exiled_Tat_Gatherer Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 SD1 was inside permanently...... now on a mates drive while I pick up keys for the garage I've found. In the meantime I've discovered the sunroof leaks like a SD1 sunroof and the interior has developed the mould - what's the approach here? I'll rip it out and stick it in the basement room to dry out but what can I do about the mould i.e. celaning first?I'm currently trawling t'net for other info but appreciate shiters info who I know will have dealt with it before.....
Stanky Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 wet vac with a small amount of bleach in the water to clean and kill the spores on the seats. If you can be bothered then remove carpets and wash them with a slightly stronger water and bleach solution?
tommytwo Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 The Mondeo door light comes on when door is opened but as someone on here has mentioned, there may be a delay before the alarm comes on in case a Magic Tree Air Freshener is swinging around, and so is normal behavior for a Mk3 Mondeo. I never would have thought of this. Many thanks.
sierraman Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Could have had the alarm disconnected at some point if it was causing a problem. I had one once that was going off all the time, just bypassed it.
Crispian_J_Hotson Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 The diagram you posted is of the INDEPENDENT HEATER. Does your car have one of them? Ben If it does, I've never seen it!
Crispian_J_Hotson Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Apologies for the stupid question....but: My 205 has a really bad knocking sound from the nearside front when turning, which now seems to have turned into a knock when in a straight line too. Also the steering feels heavy when turning right. The CV boot has split, but it genuinely sounds like something is rattling about and/or loose and hitting the car. What could this be? Road spring snapped, collapsed top mount? Badly worn CVJ's make a distinct clicking sound when cornering. I thought my polo CVJ was gonna die because a) I had run it with no CVJ boot on it for 6 months and 2) it was making a similar noise on bends at slow speeds and at 70, then it started doing it on the straight, then it got proper shaky and then the wheel fell off!
DodgeRover Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 What was the alternative to the Cazana site now they are restricting the amount of useful stuff they give out for free? I forgot to bookmark it last time it was mentioned. Thanks scdan4 1
egg Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Is there a website where I can look for cars, filtering like eBay does, but in all cars rather than cars for sale? I mean select things like number of doors, transmission, fuel, etc? So if I wanted, for example, an automatic saloon over twenty years old I could put in those criteria and get a list. I know the obvious answer is 'use eBay', but I want a comprehensive list.Try leparking.fr, lots of filters and it is an aggregation site robinmasters 1
egg Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Any recommendations for HT leads for the Ford Duratec as OEM are daft price (Fusion)?
Supernaut Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 What 'feature' could be causing the below on a current-model Ford Transit? We have a 17 reg Ford Transit LWB at work, we just got it in July 2017. When I was sitting in traffic in it today, it would sometimes have a lumpy idle, jumping between 500-1000rpm on the tachometer. I know it has an anti-stall feature when you start letting up the clutch slowly, it'll increase the revs without me touching the throttle pedal. It seems like this is going wrong, or something. I can sit in traffic in neutral with the clutch pedal fully released and it still jumps about. Only sometimes though. It seems totally random. I felt like more of a knob than usual sitting in traffic in a fully liveried-up van as it sits there blipping its throttle like a boy racer.

barefoot Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I don't understand simple design principles! "The 5 is a reduction of the essential themes of the Renault 4, using simple industrial design form language. The surfaces are minimal and the discipline of the radii is consistently applied. The lamps fit neatly into the surrounding surface and the features aligned in an orderly fashion. Despite this formal correctness the car is quite cheerful and friendly" . What in the name of sanity does, 'surfaces are minimal and the discipline of the radii is consistently applied' mean? And what is the 'formal correctness' I am looking at, but not seeing in the photo above? Thanks in anticipation. DeeJay 1
Exiled_Tat_Gatherer Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 OK - I'm reading up on insulation for a camper conversion (two halves of a van together....) - I'm going mental with the different raves about which is best. Can anyone with experience of either fitting or using please throw a bit of actual hands on/living with experience into the mix.I'm losing it a bit at the moment and am kinda stalled with the purchase until I can make up my bloody mind (bit like my cars I suppose) Cheers
beko1987 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I've not had the 'you no longer own this car' slip from the DVLA for the old Gooner... When I sent the Puma to ASM it came through really quickly. Not too fussed as I have the signed reciept from ASM sat here, but I'd like official proof... However, checking the tax status it says 'no record found', total car check has no data on it ether, that's what usually happens when its been recorded as scrapped isn't it? MOT checker still shows it Ok. Any other ways I can tell if it's been fragged and legally not my problem anymore?
SiC Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Towing a broken down car on a post 1997 licence. Is it legal? If the Maximum Authorised Mass of both is over 3.5 tonnes (where do you even find these figures...), I guess not? Are broken down vehicles classed as trailers? Google brings up mixed messages. Just thinking of the consequences if I had to tow my MGB/some hopeless old car back.
SiC Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 In addition to the above, here is the Civic manual and the MGB manual. I'm guessing as the gross weight of the MGB plus the maximum weight of the Civic is less than 3.5tonnes, it's all ok? Also the max towing weight of the Civic is more than the max weight of the MGB (as long as the MGB brakes work) - even though it's all through the tow hooks...
bub2006 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 You will be fine. I passed in 2015 and A framed a vectra, towed numerous cars and owned a touring van.
