Stupid insurance question. The Range is on a classic limited miles policy. I've used it far too much and will run out of miles before the policy ends. I cannot extend the mileage as it's on the max they'll do for it. With two months still to go can I just get a new policy and leave the old one in place ( afaik it will not be insured as I'll have gone over the mileage limit) or do I get arse raped and pay the cancellation?

I've been told before it's unlawful to double insure, what about disconnecting the speedo and using GPS, or Johnny Hates Jazz the knacker.

Shirley if it has gone over it's annual mileage then that insurance is no longer valid so it is not insured so it will   not be insured twice ?

As far as I know, exceeding the mileage limit of a classic policy does not render it invalid - it just reduces your cover to third party only.

The policy documents should tell you if this is the case for your policy or not.

If you were to drive an oldish car (>40yrs) home, that hasn't done many miles for a good number of years but recent MOT, on a 30 mile journey. Would you choose the motorway, which has plenty of hard shoulders or A-roads? Motorway is quicker, but very busy and some sections very dangerous to breakdown. A-roads slower to get back, but plenty of "safe" places to stop but still some dangerous.

Also continued motorway speeds likely to be harder on a car than one driven on a mix of 60, 50 and 30mph roads?

30 miles? You could probably freewheel that short of a distance if need be.

Cowboy up.

A roads.

Lead foot.

Enjoy.

That's how all the classic insurance I had worked.

It will all end in Shattered dreams, without being a Hero.

because it is utter horseshit?

Possibly true but we're denied the pleasure of telling it so!

Try these guys https://www.micra.org.uk/forums/k11-general-discussion.22/ - there's a guy called Frank on there - what he doesn't know about K11s ain't worth knowing. https://www.micra.org.uk/members/frank.4874/

Do you need a Haynes BOL for the car, mate ? When I was thinking of buying one I ended up with two Haynes, one for pre-coil pack only (up to 99 I think), one including both (which I'll keep just in case the Micra bug bites me in the ass again)- I can send you the older one FOC as it will include yours as it's for pre-pre-facelift K11s

I've got some shitty black sealant from the allie windows in work on my favourite shirt and am pissed off, seem's it went gooey in the heat , HTF can I remove it ?

Posted

Freeze it and pick it off like chewing gum?

Or assuming it's a cotton shirt and not polyester, then acetone dabbed on it should remove it and not damage the fabric.

I am however not an expert so test it on a small area first before you full the bathtub with acetone and lob it in. In particular whilst it shouldn't affect the cotton, it might muck up the dye.

White spirit has done shite all, I'll break out the acetone entirely on your recommendation  :-D

I don't think anything gets mastic off. It is designed to stay flexible and not set. Time to search eBay for a new shirt I'm afraid. Think of mastic like old volvo sidelights that just don't turn off.

Carbontetrachloride. Or basically, dry-cleaning fluid. The 'elf an' safety brigade have probably stopped us getting our mits on useful stuff like this from the chemist these days?

Is that what it was? Carbon tet is proper good, gives you funny looking kids and cleans your duds. They used to put it in fire extinguishers, which was a disaster as every clever dick knew it was good for cleaning stuff so would squirt a bit on their dirty laundry.

Both my tractor and digger have stopped starting off the key. They'll just click, but will start when I short the starter motor.

What's the most likely cause? Bad earth, solenoid goosed?

Solenoid should be the cause.

A good clean of the connections might help.

Could also be a flat/fucked battery, but solenoid is the first and cheapest candidate to put under the spotlight.

Tried shorting the back of the ignition switch? I've had one burn out so it couldn't carry enough current to fire the solenoid.

Do the fuzz ever buy unmarked cars secondhand?

I was just putting some fuel in, and it's a supermarket near the county police HQ. Often get their motors filling up.

On the next pump over was a 63 plate BMW and a uniformed officer putting in fuel. Now 63 plate struck me as a bit old for something that will do mega-miles - but what was also odd was that the numberplate was on squiffy, and on the bottom of the plate had the name of a local Ford dealer across it like they'd sold it.

Deffo unmarked car though - the light on the top of the dash pointing out through the windscreen, and when I ran it through TotalCarCheck it comes back as over 3 years old, no MOT status available, no tax status available.

They definitely dont up here, but 4 year old unmarked traffic cars are common, see anything as old as 61/12 plates, even as marked traffic cars, and the CID still jump about in 60 plate Mk2 Focuses and 11 plate Fiestas.

Generally their plates are made inhouse at the cop workshop and the giveaway is the font is slightly different from other car reg plates their S's are more like backwards Z's but occaisionally you see something weird like a 5 series with Arnold Clark or Phoenix Mitsubishi number plates, no idea how thats came to be, but these are marked cars theyve had from new and come direct from the manufacturer unregistered.

One other thing i'll say is the Transit Custom's they have dont seem very reliable, there always seems to be more of them in the car park of the 2 nearest Ford dealers to me at any time than there are in the cop shop compound.
