Des Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I drive a T2 and consequently a bra is something I aspire to. Hang a big girls bra between your mirrors, pop a pineapple in each cup and drive it like a boss. dave21478, catsinthewelder, barefoot and 7 others 10
philibusmo Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I've got a couple of timing belts to potentially change in the near future. One on a 1.8 mk4 Astra (I know this one should also have the water pump changed) and one on a 2.0 V6 Rover 75. I've done belts before on a Renault Avantime V6, Volvo 740 and Lancia Y10 but I had two fully working hands and arms at the time. Is there anything I need to know about these two belt changes before I crack into them with none of the right tools and a left hand that doesn't move very well and has almost no strength? STUNO 1
twosmoke300 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 On the Astra be careful with the torx bolt on the tensioner .,very easy to round off

You also have some explaining to do, Astra and Rover need work The one armed mechanic who worked on this seemed ok at the job. note the upmarket GOLD lettering. Classy as Panhards gold lady. Lacquer Peel Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Has anyone used K Seal or Steel Seal and it's worked?I'm debating with myself whether to buy a bottle or just crack on with changing the HG.
Kiltox Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Steel Seal gets good reviews but if you're equipped and able to change the HG just do it - doing it after using gloop and having to clean out the system will make you swear a lot Lacquer Peel 1
Lacquer Peel Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 The £35 for steel seal will pay for head bolts and coolant, I already have a head gasket and recon head so there's probably not much point. Kiltox 1

steveo3002 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 put it this way the new headgasket will fix it and you can trust the car not worrying if its going to let go any min if you have the capability to change the gasket then i would ..assuming you like the car and want to keep it beyond a few weeks
egg Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Some ford Fusions come with under bonnet noise insulation, some don't. Could there be any sensible reason?
Kiltox Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Some ford Fusions come with under bonnet noise insulation, some don't. Could there be any sensible reason?Diesels need it, usually
egg Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I guessed that's the answer - but for a few quid and extra noise prevention why not just fit it to all and simplify production? Penny pinching Mr Ford.
Kiltox Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Same reason they didn't rust proof the Ka mk1 egg 1
twosmoke300 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Your talking about a company that only loosely wraps wiring looms to allow the wires to be made thinner by a strand due to less heat build up ! And to save tape obvs egg, Rusty_Rocket, Lacquer Peel and 1 other 4
steveo3002 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 our focus didnt come spec'd with footwell lights but the ghias did.....theyd fitted all the wire and bulb holders just no bulbs lol
egg Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 our focus didnt come spec'd with footwell lights but the ghias did.....theyd fitted all the wire and bulb holders just no bulbs lol Yeah, same with many Mk1 Mondeos (but not mine unfortunately or it is an upgrade I would have done)
bub2006 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 our focus didnt come spec'd with footwell lights but the ghias did.....theyd fitted all the wire and bulb holders just no bulbs lolMy 2000 year 1.6 Ghia had no footwell lights, nor did all 3 other pre facelift focus ghias I knew of. Was it a later model?
Pillock Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 It's cheaper to make a standard loom a hundred thousand times, than trying to forecast how many Loom Type A you'll need, Type B, Type C etc to cope with all the variances in spec. But if you fit footwell lights, better overhead lamps etc to all cars then you'll lose the upgrades from one to the next. Same as it doesn't really cost anything to paint mirror covers, but a base model will have bare plastic. See also: Sierra Base Grille. Gotta give buyers a reason to upgrade even if it didn't save any money to do it "worse". Asimo 1
stripped fred Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Why does the power steering cap/reservoir on my 406 always have some fluid around the top? Have I filled it too full or is there some other reason why it seems to lose a bit?
Kiltox Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 They will breathe a bit if filled a little bit too high

steveo3002 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 exhausts with the slide over sleeve style fitment.....position the clamp nearest the end of the pipe or nearest the silcencer never seem to get these to seal
Des Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Modern exhaust clamps are a bit shit, so I'll put two on, not as tight, covering both positions you mention. Should have been doing this all along as it works much better, less distortion of the pipe and will come apart easier.
phil_lihp Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Who has the Autoshite bike ex-Bo11ox Rover 220SLi these days? Haven't seen it pop up in a while. omegod 1
xtriple Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 One I should really know the answer for... the seller of the Kia has not sent the log book off or if he has, it has got lost. So, how do I get a new V5 in my name and is it going to cost me loads of dosh from DVLA?
bub2006 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 If you have green slip then no charge. If not its 25 quid. Just take green but to post office. Unsure if it can be done online now though xtriple 1
