^I wonder if this is what the cause of clicking is on the Maestro rather than the relay, I do have an very intermittent problem (once every few weeks) with the indicators where they do whatever they fancy when used and the rest of the time have a variable speed click dependant, apparently, on the humidity/dampness of the weather.

Peugeot Expert 1.9 diesel, circa 2003: would it be a Fiat or PSA engine? They look quite a handy sized van but also (I think) are a shared platform with a Fiat, and I have something of an aversion to them.

DO a DVLA search on the reg... 1905 cc is a PSA unit, 1910 is the FIAT.

Ta, Albert.

Almost certainly the PSA one, I've yet to see one with anything different, we've a 2l hdi Dispatch for sale at work if you fancy, slightly salty at 2k, but does have a warranty with it.

MY 02 plate was the PSA DW9 engine, great until 188,000 then it got very unhappy, injectors, leaking pump, random misfire, etc....and Peugeot couldn't find anything wrong with it ....but bloody good vans otherwise, expect about 44,pg as standard.

Does it harm an autobox to leave it in D with the handbrake on?

Cheers, way out of my league then. I'm after (or will be in a few months) a dirt cheap shitter, will probably get an XUD engine Berlingo.

Only if the engine's running.

Erm what about torque convertor stall tests then?

Consider my C15 then, I'll be putting a new cambelt on but ultimately I shall probably have to let it go due to a belt tightening exercise.

It tends to be the people who insist on putting auto boxes in park / neutral every time the car stops at lights who kill them, but they tend to be the same folk who change gear manually all the bloody time when driving autos.

I've never killed an autobox through normal use. Fried them by inflicting way past their maximum torque capacity, but they tend to be fine if they're used normally.

One thing auto boxes get very upset about is people 'hill-holding' with the throttle instead of using the brakes.

It may be not good to leave an auto in park without the handbrake on, once heard of a car that was shunted causing expensive damage to the locking pawl mechanism bits deep inside the box, was probably a coincidence mind.

I never use the handbrake on autos. Was pleasantly surprised that the Sierra's handbrake passed the MoT - I'd forgotten to even try it before I took it in.

Question: Should a Peugeot TD-engined LDV 400 have a radiator fan? Mine doesn't have any kind of fan whatsoever, either viscous or electric. I've not had any temperature issues so far, barring once when I hit traffic on the motorway after a long period of high-speed (by LDV standards) driving, when the gauge started to climb and I had to turn the heater on, but it seems odd to me, even with a relatively understressed old diesel engine, that there should be no form of artifically-created airflow whatsoever.

Posted

I reckon it's had an engine driven fan and the original engine has been replaced with one that's meant to have an electric fan.

In regards to that V70 I'm looking at, I dunno (and nor does the Seller) if it's the 140hp or 170hp version, I know the engine codes are B5244S for the 170 and B5244S2 for the 140, but that's it.

Where do I find the codes on the engine? I've checked the obvious places (Vin plate, etc) but with no joy.

On the basis that it's no different to sitting in stationary traffic in D with your foot on the brake pedal, no.

People doing this with manuals puzzles me - how is balancing the clutch with that burning smell "easier" than pulling the handbrake and relaxing?

Because when you're driving up the steep ramp into Tesco at Chester and the handbrake cable has long since jumped ship on your Calibra you don't have a choice. {wife voice}Well, you had the choice of mending it but you just couldn't be arsed, could you? Now we're sat in a car that stinks of burning, is smoking it's tits off and I'm embarrassed {wife voice off}

Just wondering as the Corolla is an auto, and I don't like sitting on the brakes and dazzling the person behind me. Although it's not as if it's a modern car with 5000 LEDs that can be seen from space

I need to buy a crank sensor from a random bloke in Holland who has only joined a forum to advertise thus I dont know if he is trust worthy or not.

If I pay with PayPal am I covered or is this only for items bought through ebay?

Posted

I think if you do NOT pay as a gift (i.e pay it as goods other, or something like that) you are covered.

Best bet to give them a call to check: 0844 496 0300

Yep, our 400 has an engine driven fan.

Calling all Citroen Xantia experts....

Do ALL Xantias have a pollen (cabin) filter? I'm informed that the air conditioned cars deinitely DO have one but mine's a 2 litre auto petrol non-air con one. There's a "box" thing where the filter looks like it should go & I've managed to get my hand inside it by removing the heater fan & there's nothing in there. Should there be? If so, how do you open the box? (or take the money?)

Any thoughts?

I'd never have come to that conclusion.

Does anyione know anyhing aboutiPod repairs. My (just over) a year old iPod classic won't connect via USB/charge up anymore. Online seems to be £120 with Apple or £75 + postage for independents. Is there a way to bodge a repair?
