Luxobarge locking wheel nut question!

My locking wheelnuts on the Jaaaag are a little tired.

Anyone know where I can buy four, bog stock wheelnuts from?

Main stealer?

Wrecker.

No chance its leaking somewhere?

Or there's water or something spilled on the inside?

Running the air con (regardless of temp) should sort any misting up issues as the system has a dryer in it.

To go back to this. I appear to have solved it with the use of some rain-X anti-mist stuff applied to the inside of the windows, and an old sock full of cat litter chucked under the passenger seat.

I've managed to get a cabin filter from GSF for £5.something thanks to the discount codes, although no sign of it arriving so far.

Alfa 147 1.9JTD 8v.

Heater has stopped working, the engine seems to get warm and the hoses all seem warmish including to the heater but no hot air.

Internet sez various flaps in the heater box can stop flapping (swanky dual zone climate control) but they all seem to do the right thing.

Latest report is that when the heater fan is turned off the engine temp goes up, like way up. Fan seems to be cutting in more than normal in general use as well.

Water pump? How can I test if the water pump is working? It's had a new thermostat in the last year.

Posted

To answer my own question, I had a look and the water pump certainly seemed to be turning, however the header tank was empty and it took about 2.5l of coolant.

Heater now working, check for leak ongoing- nothing I could see by torchlight.

Triple post - I am full of stupid questions tonight.

New Old Stock cambelts - bad idea? What's the shelf life on a cambelt?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/005-FIAT-ALFA-GM-1-9-JTD-CDTI-120BHP-CAMBELT-WATER-PUMP-KIT-NEW-O-E-71771584-/121991420446?hash=item1c67415a1e:g:g6kAAOSwv1RUY0zr

The car is a modern (2005), the JTD engine isn't that old - WCPGW?

I think some gates belts have a date on them. I could have fucking dreamt all this though.

I put a Ford Zetec belt on a Mondeo some time ago, could well have been on a shelf for 10 years.

Rubber degrades with time and UV light.

What's the saving versus an engine rebuild?

£20-30 quid. I've asked how old they are. I'll also attempt to use it to beat my local factors down on price.

A new belt kit from ECP isn't much more expensive with the discount codes that are floating around - also try GSF who do 45%+ off most of the time

They don't always dispatch new ones... If you're unlucky enough to need an obscure belt, they may have had it on the shelf for years.

A couple of years ago, I ordered a kit for my F8Q-engined Megane, which arrived complete with date stickers from 2005 ! I returned it the following day, and ordered one from Mister Auto instead. That, thankfully, was a brand new one that I was happy to install.

After just over a year, I'm at a stage where I'm eyeing up other vehicles on Autotrader (hence the question about Mondeo 2.5Ts) and also thinking that 16s would make the S60 ride better (hence the question about tyre profiles).

Normal service etc etc.

Which leads naturally me to the totally logical question...how big do your balls have to be to take on an 2004/2005 Jaguar S-Type? With an autobox, even?

I want to own a Jag damnit. The itch is becoming as urgent as the 'own-a-V8-before-30' one I had. I'm now 30, so a new itch has manifested itself. An S-Type appears to be the safest option given the propensity for X-Types to dissolve if you glance at them sharply. But 'safest'? It doesn't give me the same sense of utter confidence I get from an LS400 or GS300, say. Despite all the good noises made about Jaguar build quality, and how the S-Type improved after revisions in early 2000s.

The 2.5 V6 is said to be a good engine, chain driven, just over 200hp, enough to waft sumptuously and get 30mpg on a run, maybe more with a manual 'box.

But I reckon my baws aren't big enough. :(

I spent ages looking at S Types before i purchaced my fine Japanese coupe, every fucking one had shagged supension that clunked and banged and loads were rusty, anywhere there was a stone chip had rust blebs, wings had big scabs as did some back arches, the range of cars went from a grand to 6k but they all had something wrong with them. The Ford was still strong in them at this point.

Quite a few had fucked electric hand brakes as well, they didnt even go that well if im honest. Insides felt cramped and a bit twee, similar to the way a Rover 75 feels. Best one i drove was an early 3.0 manual.

Buy a 3.0 V6 manual, assuming the engine is still good I'll bid more than cartakeback when it dissolves :)

S type forums are full of people bemoaning the thirst of the 2.5 - all the thirst of the 3.0 without the go. Jag magazine ran a manual facelift (2004 I think) for a while and were shocked by the fuel thirst.

Electronic hand brake?

Eeech.

The signs are directing me to a late model GS300...

Thanks Dave, I probably ought to change it all in the summer anyway but understand that I'm just diluting it at present.

I managed to get the cap done up another 1/8 of a turn this morning before setting off, and then when I arrived at work I popped the bonnet with the enging running and watched the expasion tank very closely, no visible drips in ~3 minutes, not puffing any steam out, nada.

We shall see.

I bought a uv leak detection kit from eBay when I was looking for the leak in my Volvo's coolant system. It worked really well, wasn't expensive either. Just some uv dye to add to the coolant and uv torch

One of the last Legends would probably be a better buy, SH-AWD for 4 wheel Vtec Drift YO!

Either car is going to ruinous to run but the Legend looks better.

My own question is why am I considering looking at a 2009 3.5l Laguna coupe. Had they sorted out the electrical gremlins by this point?

Why can they never fathom out central locking?

DO NOT PULL THE HANDLE UNTIL I`VE ACTUALLY UNLOCKED IT!

I think that's the Folding Money Acquisition module, all BMWs have one. It's main use is the transfer of funds from owner to dealership.

Posted

He's been quoted £600 to replace it. Needless to say he's told them to FRO. What are you looking at pattern parts and is it DIY or a fairly simple garage job (the latter I hope)?

Apparently it requires a phone call to BMW to reset something. I'll say it not that sounds like bull shit.

Does it really invalidate your insurance if you fit tyres with a lower speed rating than your cars top speed? I really do feel disinclined to buy V rated tyres...

Posted

^^^ You will have to read the small print of your insurance contract to know the answer to that.

V rated not a price problem surely? Many sizes are only available at higher speed ratings anyway.

Maybe not invalidate but could cause an issue if anything unfortunate were to happen

Besides,if I viewed a car that had the wrong rated tyres fitted I'd be wondering what else was going on.......

I've found some Sava tyres on Tyreleader which are a good price, V rated and well reviewed which are I suppose the sensible option. I guess if I ever get to go on the Autobahn I'll be good to go...
