To remove it and replace the gasket, yeah it’s a bit of a job. Not as bad as the sump mind.
Split_Pin
Bumhats. The entire front had to come off our Mini just to replace a £5 oil filter housing gasket, inevitable labour charges ensued. At least the X5 rewards you with that marvelous interior. Kiltox
Kiltox
It’s in the garage this morning. Fingers crossed. Chap asked for the reg when I dropped it off - when he sees it he will realise that was futile because it has a much more unique identifier than that
Kiltox
Looks like it’s the OFH gasket. Will be a good 2-3 hours labour including the time to clean it up!

320touring
Does it have the 'learning' function like the box in the e60s where it adapts to driving style? You can reset those:)

rantingYoof
When it learns the most annoying way possible to shunt it's way through the gears?I've driven four automatic Omegas. Three of them behaved perfectly normally, changing in a civilised manner etc. The one that@Supernaut collected though was weirdly different, like it was stuck in permanent 'Sport' mode. Kicked down if you breathed a little on the throttle. I swear the ECU or whatever the brains were of the gearbox had been reset before being hooned everywhere, basically programming the 'box to behave a certain way all the time. hennabm
I have the GM 5 spd box as well. I had my g/box ecu updated - it had to have a complete software update by the Indy. It gave it a far smoother performance afterwards. Took a good few hours to do apparently. Kiltox
Kiltox
Interesting stuff, we’ll see what it drives like when it returns - I didn’t know that was a possibility for its tardiness.

Kiltox
It’s back.... and my wallet’s a lot fucking lighter Seems far more oil-continent now! Kiltox
Just been for a longer drive - the box is definitely improved. I wonder if changing just the fluid (not the filter etc) a couple more times would be worth doing
Split_Pin
Glad you've got it back now. Can't advise on the box issue, my 75 JATCO KICKIN YO one is basic but changes smoothly. It's a replacement box, the old one was reportedly very harsh and had metal shavings in the fluid. So as you've not had that issue, a further fluid change might help. Kiltox
Just going to drive it for a bit and see what happens I think. Kiltox
Had to take the Fox to work this morning because this fucking thing is low on coolant. I don’t seem to be able to own a car that can keep a hold of its fucking coolant! Didnt want to arse about with it at 0530 - is this the beginning of the notorious E46 era cooling system problems? paulplom
Tayne
If you’ve had no other signs of coolant loss then it will likely be the split bottle that weeps under pressure. Have a look at the bottom of the radiator to check for sagging as well.
