Mk1 Focus 1.6. *Roffle* WEDS DRAW

05 Fiesta has a 2.0 Duratec, a 2.0 mk1 Focus is Zetec. Duratec has manifold at the back, prone to the bracket on to the block breaking and resonating like fuck. The actual flex on the 2.0 is completely separate unlike the 1.4/6.

As Sierraman says, its all in one chunk unless you start chopping and welding.

For the price, easier just to change it all. Theres one on the way now and Im quite excited to get it sorted as Im enjoying the car thus far.

Ran it round to ECP today to pick up some GENERIC PERPETUAL SALE service prats. Do these FORDS really require FORD GRADE OIL?Really does feel firm and planted. Fancy test driving another one to feel if this one really does have SPORTS suspension or if they all ride like this.

No repeat of any beeping beeps as yet, but the front and rear parking sensors are functional. 1st time Ive had a car where they actually work at both ends!

You down with ECP? (Yeah you know me)

If the rain fucking fucks the fuck off, interior and exterior cleansing will continue tomorrow.

went over mine today ..... and found a duff front tyre , a slight wobble on the inner side wall turned out to be the start of a split on the main tread .....wondered why that side some times "twitched " on the white lines .....  some new front pads needed soon as well !!

just shows it good to check them over !

it was an oldie ....

2 new ones on the front now  , other side relegated to full size spare that lives in the garage

nice light steering ( or even lighter in this case )  :-)

Well the rain finally stopped so I had another crack at the interior this morning. Hoovered it all out, cleaned everything down, including the door shuts and trims as everything was pretty manky.

Then I had another bash at the wheel.

I reccomended these dash wipes for stubborn steering wheel grime.

Im happy enough with that now to be honest. Bit of effort saves changing a part. Job jobbed.

Years ago that would have been called a sports manifold on an OHV Escrot.

These days it is hard to distinguish the manifold form the downpipe form the front flex.

You could walk into a Motor Factors and ask for any of the three and walk out with the same thing.

Old skool car language currency has now value, it's all in Euro's now mate.

I need a front flex......you mean front exhaust section with manifold

Nah, I don't need a manifold, just a down pipe.....

You've got to have a manifold mate".......

Nah, there nowt Wong with the manifold, just the flex, just the cheap bit

The flex is £45 quid mate

That's a bit steep for a flex innit

It comes with the downpipe and the manifold for free mate

Might find enough coins to purchase a Roful Ticket on someone else's shitter.

A win could then be re-ruffled to ratchet up the fund pot which could be then used to purchayse several Euro Milliyons tickets where a further win might put you in the market for a down at heal LearJet.

After all, looking at how that steering wheel scrubbed up, your luck is in, your a winnar

You might find viable sweets too. Maybe. Fairly unlikely in all honesty.

The manifold/exhaust thingy looks ace.

More likely to find loads of rust holes judging by my current luck.

That wheel looks loads better man, have you considered a scrub with some boot polish or do you not fancy risking the Al Jolson look?

If you up the rear seat you'll possibly see evidence if its had the fuel pump replaced. These usually crap out at about 100k. Only way to avoid dropping the tank is to cut a hole in the floor under the back seats then mastic it back after.

Check in the corners as well, rot starts from where the inner arch meets the trailing arm mounts all the way round along the seam with the boot floor. Rust here will usually be a lot worse than the scabs as it rots underneath the seam sealer from the crappy carpet type arch liners.

Good work, I know these have their detractors but I really like them, there's something that just feels 'right', I've had a 1.6 Zetec in the past on a W plate which I started to realise had lead a brutally hard life in its 7 years (and seems to have continued to after I sold it, sadly) but it never actually broke.  I now have my 2004 ST170 and despite it needing a few bits, it's rather marvellous.  The shape has aged extremely well and it still feels very solid and well made, even if the actual build quality is a little variable.  I also have not excavated under the back seats and am now slightly scared to having seen sierraman's comments.

A friend of mine has a very dog-eared 2004 diesel estate which I hear she's finally managed to kill when the clutch went, but she's had years of very hard use and one write-off and buy back out of it with little more than routine, slightly erratically spaced servicing.

Some actual progress that didnt involve MOAR WETWIPES today.

Braved the rain and took the old bus in for the manifold/down pipe/ flexi changed. Local place that Ive not used before.

Oil and filter change while it was in there. Fuck rolling about in puddles on the street #notautoshiteenough.

The wipers that were on were most likely fucking original and though they have Ford badges on, they squawked, screeched and smeared so a run up to Half Frauds saw them replaced with some Boschy goodness.

FUK U OLD BITS.

If the rain ever stops Im gonna try some painting. Yes you heard that correctly. Painting.

Improvements made. Some stuff still to do.

a pot noodle cup painted black fits nicely in the cup holders as a handy little bin ...

Or simply purchase a bombay BAD BOY and save yourself the hassle #toptip

Old air filter and new air filter. Looks like its been changed recently anyway. Previous owner said it was serviced every six months but theres no history. Oil that came out looked pretty clean too so looks like it HAS been looked after reasonably well.

One pence. A mechanical pencil and a dustcap from a tyre valve. No rust though.

I know they ALL do, but the mechanic said its the cleanest mk1 Focus hes seen on the ramp for ages.

Good work on the exhaust and servicing, hopefully it'll prove to be a reliable old bus.

Re the rust, I've seen some really rotten low milers, and a few that have seen serious use with no rot at all. Wonder if more use = less condensation sitting on the metal work or something.

A lighter sound like an ideal solution. :-)
