Just heard Chris Evans interviewing Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum DFC , if the Sceptics think they invented the 'Right Stuff' they should listen to some of the remaining Few.

Up to 5 missions a day, to stay alive never fly straight for more than 10 second.

.And none of them would be old enough to insure a hot hatch these days.

Made me ashamed to be driving a German car.

Don't forget the CPC. I'm thinking of doing my HGV for a change of scenery. I'm bored of just driving buses.

I'd like to get my PSV...

This thread took some finding. I hope it doesn't die now it has been relegated from the normal forum.

Anyhoo...

Volkswagen/Audi ordered to pull half a million cars because of a device that disguises pollution levels.

The "defect device" allows cars to pass lab testing even though they actually emit 40 times the emissions standard.

Small things/very small mind. I got bored this morning and tried to break the DVLA's crack 'no swearing' number plates and the best I have managed so far is

U N08 JOC

which is £250 all in.

Any more? I've tried KN08 EAD and KN08 HED, but I think any 'KN08' is not available.

*ND13 HED and ND13 EAD are available, though.

Edit:

Available: UP15 ORF. Unavailable: UP15 OFF

Death knell for the diesel?

So, none of these cars so equipped were sold anywhere else?

Amys just come back from National Tyres with 2 new tyres. Very good they are, but apparently they gave her an 'advisory' for the exhaust, saying the middle and rear silencer is cracked. Quite why they didnt add the big hole in the front flexi to the list too I dont know. But no fear, they can fit a new one for £278 THIS AFTERNOON!

Luckily Amy knows her car shit now (and knows she needs a new exhaust anyway) and declined. Priced one up at ECP - £78.74, or GSF for £77.76...

Went to the beach for the first time since moving up here, amazingly it's only half an hour away and I've been here for well over a year and never been.  Parked up and noticed this property was called 'Orion House', which made me grin.

Then Blake and I went on the beach.  It might be the first time he's ever seen the sea, he didn't know what to make of it.  Then paddled in it, then splashed around and tried to eat the sea.  He also tried rock scrambling and fell in the sea which he thought was brilliant.  Happy dog.  Best day EVER.

You should read Geoff Wellums' book, it's called 'First Light'.

Great book, very witty, but the part where he loses his best friend Peter over the Channel brings a lump to your throat.

If only we had more blokes like this about today.

dumb question, but who is Paul Sullivan?

apart from the obvious answer, which is that he is some runner/athletics fella.

I ordered a part for the wiper mechanism of the merc on the 8th - a little plastic cover that clips over the extending arm. It was from South Korea and arrived on Friday ( 10 days!). It had the merc part numbers in the same place as the original and is a perfect fit.

Hopefully it will be the end of stopping at the side of the road to collect said ejected piece from the undergrowth. Honestly, people go on about merc build quality, but it's the only car I've had which actively loses bits as you drive. N/s front indicator was the first to fall off.
