I work for a small van hire company and I wish we could get them at those prices.

Excess is £600. Googled and excess insurance is £20/wk or £40/yr. So I could do 3,500 miles in a wk and pay only £111? If this was on Dragon's Den I'd be "oot".

My buttocks had that problem, at one point I swear they went to get a scissor jack to get some access.

The interesting part was watching the x-ray monitor and seeing the needle moving through your body.

I had a disk hernia with sciatica a couple of years back and got the same treatment. I had read about how it was all meant to be done exactly, x-rays, that whole bit. Nah, this is Croatia - bend over and grit your teeth. I was in agony though (the doc did some tests to see how much pain I was in and my wife's cousin, who'd done the driving and was waiting for us outside, distinctly heard the word "fuck!" screamed out at full volume. I didn't even know I'd shouted it, I just thought I'd screamed  )

The Xantia is now a proper vehicle.  Fully equipped it can boast a diesel engine that runs on veg, a roof rack for those really big items and now a tow bar on the back for those really REALLY big items that you need a trailer to move.

By buying thousands of vehicles direct from the factory at knock down prices and selling them on after 6 months at a profit?

This is it.

I used to have an interest in a "Thrifty" franchise. Buy from Ford at *at least* 40% discount - much more if it was a run out or something they wanted rid of. Rent cheaply for 6 months to cover costs. Sell insurance, CDW, baby seats, etc. etc. then fling it down the auction where Arnold Clark invariably bought it until he started doing it himself. A reasonable profit.

The price Joe Public pays - or did then - for a new car compared to fleet buyers is unbelievable.

To be fair, you could throw those remarks at a Suzuki (GT250) X7 or a Kawasaki KR1S and still be on the money.

Agreed.

My old KR1S and RD350 YPVS both used to be less reliable than all the old British and French cars I've owned put together.

Never had a problem with LCs. Blown a few up (and raced them in clubbie championships) but always found them to be fine... until subjected to 'operator error'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we proddied 350 LCs, they were all standard of course. Except mine (and Tim Fuester who raced with me in 'Team Good Grin Racing') didn't start to make power until just before the redline and carried on for about 2500 past it!

Cranks didn't last long....

Last time I had to rent a transit to go from here to southern Spain, it cost me* about 900 euros for 5 days rental and that was the cheapest I found after a lot of shopping around. It would almost have been cheaper to fly to UK and buy a van!

*I didnt pay it, my employer did. Thankfully.

I had to rent a Transit last Christmas to move my gear out of the garage of the family home. Well, my mate actually did it and got me the van - cost me £150 for the day! It was actually a three day rental as it was a weekend but it was back with them on the same day.

Think I may have been ripped off a bit!

Went to metal supermarkets for steel for various half baked schemes. Assembled a good pile of stuff, went to pay and got asked cash or card? We're having a Friday sale for cash.

Which was nice, but a bit of a dilemma as VAT free, or charge the lot as a 'business expense'.

Got a text from my Brother in Law (he's a branch manager for 'National' car rental) this afternoon, saying that they now have Dacia Dusters on their fleet...

I think I am the only person he knows, that a text like that would be of interest too :) :)

It's almost 16 years since this video was released, and I've still no idea how on earth they managed to come up with something quite so utterly bizzare. "Oh, and then they should all get his face."

Congratulations, but be careful.

Them cheap E-fags can actually contain all sorts of chemicals / shit, i only know this as we've just won a massive contract at work to fill and package these shitting things. And we also scored plenty of horror stories about the competitors.

Most of the nasty ones are from abroad, but hey who doesn't enjoy toaking automotive glycol, as opposed to pharmaceutical / FG 8)

Reminds me of the NME cover of the same time, well it was March 1998 apparently. Not Good...
