At last, another weekend for doing car stuff. The sun is out so I'm going to give both a wash, then go for a blez in the 220. And I'm off to view another car tomorrow.

A work colleague asked me to help him put his new chainsaw together. He wasn't sure if it was petrol or electric! He thought petrol but noticed an electric wire. I said it might be the spark plug lead.

He brought it round to my house yesterday after work. It was a green plastic Bosch thing with a 240v lead hanging from it. He had been confused by the wee oil reservoir for keep the chain lubed. Lol.

I put the chain bar on and it worked quite well.

After a year of being left unattended at various free roadside parking areas of the Portugal land interspersed with long distance meanders in the scorchio scoricho peri peri sunshine the 106 passed an MOT so will now get an oil change,  new second-hand boots, massage of the rear brake bits and the return of it rear wiper then be sent back south for more road salt free motoring.

Well done that man. How did you escape the clutches of 6 months maximum use of a car in another EU country before insurance is invalid and local registration and test  is required?

I guess I worry too much.

Sally Bretton butt naked in 'Not Going Out' tonight

I hate to ruin it but I think that was a body double as they seemed to be wearing a wig.

The fact that I was able to notice that has left me questioning my sexuality.

Well things have gone from good to fantastic for me in the last few days.

Work has really picked up and I got a pat on the head from the MD for my 'commitment' to the cause, I then improved the situation further by chainsawing the dead tree in the car park down, and allowed the MD to have a go - apparently his first ever go with a real chainsaw. He was mightily pleased with being given the opportunity. The icing on the cake is that we're all to receive christmas bonuses too this year.

The Almera was put for some welding, the chap gave it a look-over and said its fixable, he's chopped out about half the sill, fabricated a new one, welded it in, stonechipped it and cured the squeak from the front brakes all for the pricely sum of £60.00 (yes, sixty quid!) - so I'm now fully ready for the MOT in a fortnight. Only a few weeks ago I was seriously contemplating getting it cubed as I thought the work that was going to be required would be north of £600. seems I was 1000% too pessimistic!

Finally, I mustered the energy to go out to my old stamping grounds in Portsmouth last night for a Halloween shindig and had an absolute whale of a time. Met some old faces I've not seen in years, met some new faces who hopefully will become friends and had an all-round great time. Even better, as I was driving I couldn't drink, so spent the sum total of £8.40 the whole night - that included a pub and a club. and they say there's no such thing as a cheap night out any more. Got in at 2.30am and feel like less of a grumpy old hermit than I have done for the past 3 years. Even have some energy left today to enjoy spending time with my daughter who's just turned 5.

And I bought a lottery ticket, so fingers crossed for later

Took my grandad who is 81 today to get his wheels refurbed on his merc.

He had a xk8 till last year but they rust like anything and the gearbox had started to play up so we flogged it on, he bought a old slk 230 but it was "too slow and boring" so last month he bought another slk but this time the slightly newer version and the 350 version.

He ain't no rich old fella either he worked in the pit all his life and has cashed in his house to live his life a bit and treat my gran as she has dementia so is slightly crackers now days.

If ever there was an appropriate use of "one life live it" this is it.

Kwik Fit of Longlands Road, Middlesbrough.

Friendly, competent, professional staff with respect and enthusiasm for older cars.  No touting for additional trade, giving out what sounded a lot like reasonable advice to other customers that were in while we were waiting and even come with a recommendation from me to give them a try if you're in the area and need anything.

We weren't planning to use them for the Spider, but push came to shove when our usual place closed early leaving us in the lurch a bit.  For twenty years off the road and a full rebuild the MoT highlighted very little on the little Spider; a headlight adjuster breaking off when adjustment was attempted, an indicator that stopped working when we arrived, emissions needing to come down and front brakes needing further adjustment.  They even complimented the work done on the car, particularly Mike's efforts with all things mechanical.

I know. He is quite intelligent too. Has a maths degree and he's reached the age of 60 without killing himself. he has taught applied maths (sometimes called mechanics) and yet clearly doesn't have a very mechanical mind.

You have ruined my weekend telling me that! I genuinely believed I had finally seen her naked!

Amazing! A lot of prep for 3 1/2 minutes music though. How many pianos were murdered for that?

Posted

You should check out their other videos, they've got some excellent ones out there.  Music is pretty good too.  This is undoubtedly the best use for a Chevrolet... Aveo?

Posted

They do great videos but they have to. I just don't find their music interesting at all.

Even while I was watching their video with the treadmills I couldn't have told you what they sound like.

I popped to Krispy Kreme in Manchester with a few friends and on the way back at about 10:15 on the motorway on a pitch black stretch, i glimpsed in the rear view and saw a familiar pair of headlamps looking back at me, it was another sierra, a pogweasel red j plate hatch with a short nose bonnet, i acknowledged the driver then on a stretch with lights he came up the side to have a closer look at the saph then got back behind me, as he left on a slip road it was beeps and waves, it really made my day because what are the chances of that happening

On the way home from Hull this evening, zooming along the A18 in the Range Rover, and overtaking a surprised Ford SMAX :)  The RR responds well to being driven briskly :D

Remind me to never pick an argument with someone who can drink as much as you clearly have.

Kwik Fits are a franchise I think?   Therefore some good most bad.

The one near my parents used to be OK (about 20 years ago).   I went in there in the summer and it took them several minutes to acknowledge I was there and then a further few minutes to establish that I wanted to buy a 'tyre', I wanted it fitted to a 'car' and if at all possible I would like it done 'today'.   All of these seemed to be foreign terms to them.

I'm not saying its big or clever, but last night my mate was giving me loads in the pub, all good humoured but he wasn't letting up.

The trouble is, he thinks he 'won' the piss taking bout, but he has yet to find out that leaving his tobacco pouch on the table when he went for a smoke was a bad idea.

I hope he enjoyed smoking my bollock hairs with his roll ups.

Bloke at the tip who had loaded his white A5 to the brim with rubble and stone! I thought the tyres were going to explode when he arrived:-)

I got a solid nights sleep, then bent out a solid shite this morning. Normal bowel function appears to have returned of its own accord. I put some nappy cream on my tortured hoop and I feel almost civilised again.

Long distance....Portugal, Gib, Spain, Land of Frogs,  Royaume de Belgique, Jersey,  and UK with less than 183 days out of 365 in any one.  Insurance is nae problem, just need to read the small print before buying. Would like to try an A35 or Minor fitted with a 1527cc diesel + 5 speed if I can find one.

This heap made me grin. I thought it was dead but warm bonnet and perfect, shiny discs tell a different story.

My grin is, the Grump thread has dropped down to the middle of page 2 so we must all have had a happy Sunday.

I didn't do this, just a smear of blue hylomar...

Should be in the grump thread as it highlights what a dick I can be, but makes me happy that a nice* afternoon stripping, cleaning and redoing it properly should sort it!

May even go to Vauxhall for the sealant, think its only a tenner. Can get some new seals for other bits too (oil level switch, pickup pipe, bolt hole bungs)
