It's a Xantia on three spokes.  Not the three spokes I'd use, but it makes me happy that it exists.

Those wheels look very similar to the ones I had on my Mk1 Laguna. I really liked them.

Congratulations LS, fantastic news! Just need to get the D reg 820e back on the road now to use as your wedding car!

I half jokingly suggested a 231bhp 330Ci Coupe to my mum, because she wants something "comfy, a bit sporty looking and automatic for about 3 grand" to replace her mk3 golf 1.8 auto (for sale on here soon). Turns out she really likes them, so it looks as though I've got to go and look at one and probably drive it back tomorrow night. I am a little bit apprehensive about her driving such a fast car, but she managed an MX5 with Pirelli P6000s on for years so she's probably OK in anything.

They leak oil from the oil filler housing and the rocker cover gaskets go brittle and leak oil down the back of the engine dripping on the exhaust manifold.

Nice engine though.

Thanks Tayne/Cort. I have to say I've been scuttling round the net to see the main faults, if those are the only major issues then I don't reckon it'll be too bad. There's a lad at work who's got a 330d and seems to have had to fix every one of those faults in the last couple of months.

She can always donate it to me when she gets sick of it, shame it's an auto but I presume it's a much much better box than her mk3 golf (which is the only auto I've ever driven)

LS has enough Rover 800s for the whole wedding party (or at least the most important people), we just need to hit a few with the right tools and get some tow rope for the others.

I've been watching Polo in the works car park over the last few years now. The other side is just as bad!

Pleasingly shonky. They normally hold off the rot pretty well so I guess that one's had a life by the sea.

I always presume stuff must have had major paint when newish or something to look that bad, but if both sides are as shagged then maybe one of the metal protection stages didn't work properly in the factory.

That said my golf is probably just as bad but you can't see it cos there's sill covers and arch trims over it all.

You could be right, it's in Felixstowe so It's likely to have lived on the coast all it's life.

No, that's quite bad even for one of the later ones of this shape.  In fact, I don't think I've ever seen one that bad before.  I wonder if it's the colour and lumpiness of the finish that's making it look so bad or if it actually has all the structural integrity of All Bran.  I bet there's just fresh air under the battery tray by now.

It's been bubbling for a few years now, but it's getting worse, the interiors pretty tidy and it even looks quite original with the dealer plates and stickers, I bet it's low mileage too, I'll have to take a look tomorrow, I'll see if i can get some more photos of the nearside too.

That's pretty spectacularly grotty. I bet if you gave it a bit of a tap the bottom third of that wing would just fall off.

I'm honestly not saying it because of my general anti-VAG-ness, but I've seen plenty of Polos of that sort of age as rotten as that.

Posted

I've owned one which was spotless but binned off when it went pop. I've had a hand in 'race prepping' four more, none of which were seriously grotty though all got a bit bent in the 'racing' process so went in the bin too.

Despite my callous mistreatment of the breed I quite like them.

Oddly enough my N-Power has gone from £82 to £154... I shall give them an buzz.

N Power screwed up my bill as well. I make sure theyve got the right readings, but they didnt send me a bill for months so I chased it up and got a letter from them telling me that I was £320 in credit... and in the SAME LETTER - "we are putting your payments up from £58 to £80 per month as we think you're using more than you're paying". Eh?

Five days later - another bill - this time my 320 credit has mysteriously vanished and this time I owe THEM £170 apparently.

Long story short I decided best plan was just to switch supplier. gave them a closing reading and they told me I owed them £70 to finalise the account.

Confused? So was I. Anyway I paid that to get rid of them and my balance was zero at switch.

Two weeks later - another bill! Apparently I owe them a further £40. God only knows what the truth of it all is.

Ha, sounds like standard N-Power. They once sent me a bill for gas I had used at a property six months after I moved out. Well, actually, they sent me a summons because they had been sending the bill to the house I had told them I moved out of six months previously.  So they wanted me to pay for the current occupier to use gas after I had moved out and informed them of such.

I got OfGen involved and they turned it around to a £50 cheque in my favour from N-Power apologising for the anguish. Result.

I had a summons for unpaid electric used for a house we had moved out of 4mths beforehand.after some calls and swearing it turned out the letting agents had re - activated my old account to ensure they had power at the house whilst it was empty.after a few letters threatening a police investigation on my behalf for id theft, obtaining services by deception and a couple of other things we got a lovely printed apology and a tidy little cheque to keep it quiet and out of the local papers.......

Turns out my new Avantime was at one point part of the worlds biggest Avantime fleet. They were purchased by a computer company called taylor made and all resprayed Monaco blue for some corporate reason. They all have the reg HK03... and I see on twitter R9UKE also bought one of these HK03 cars back in March.

OOOOH - I used to work just round the corner from Taylor Made, they had got rid of the avantimes by then (2007), presumably just after the warranties had expired and before the big bills started to loom.

learn something new every day :)

I am as good as engaged to be married now. Possible_Lady_Sterling has now become Lady_Sterling-in-waiting......

This makes me quietly very happy, nowt can top this. Not even a Shantung Gold D-reg Mk1 Sterling in as-new condition delivered to my door, for free. (But it'd be bloody well close)

Congratulations. I did have this for you (D reg too) but take it you don't want it now...

Been feeling seriously crappy today with a horrible throat infection so I was very happy to find out that work on the Princess' welding has BEGUN.  Not so keen on being told how much they're having to remove to do the job but at least it's getting done now.  Essentially, the bottom 6" of the car is getting a good poke nose to tail and the sparkly stick waved where appropriate.

Just seen a Tesla! Reg no' TE55SLA. I thought it was an XF jag to begin with and was pondering what a handsome thing it was from the back. When I twigged it was a Tesla (the number plate REALLY should have given me a clue!) I was really impressed. Nice thing.

Texted my son with the news and suprised to find he's been playing with one for a few weeks! He's got a HELL of a good job!

Just bitten the bullet and phoned HMRC after getting a threatening letter from a debt collection agency, which mentions taking away property.

Glad I did ,it seems I made a mistake on a Self Assesment form in 2010 ,putting the wrong figure in an unpaid tax box. The guy on the phone checked and i shouldn't have been charged, so, £3000 off my bill!

Also agreed payment plan so interest and penalties stop as of today.

Most profitable afternoon I've ever had.

HMRC are pretty good like that and not quite as nasty as they are made out to be. I messed up years ago and had a big bill turn up. I just went in and said sorry I can't pay it all right now but will pay some now and the rest over 6 months and they were fine about it. Unlike my accountant at the time who tried to charge me £30 for sorting it out. Even though I hadn't even spoken to him about it. The best thing to do when dealing with them is to talk to them rather than ignoring it they will always do a deal unless you have been a very naughty boy..

yeah, I found the £700 bill they sent to me was the result of an administrative error at their end.  Didn't really appreciate the letter they sent that made out their mistake was somehow my fault but at least I not longer have to find them a massive chunk of cash.
