I finally made it back to the Borders to look for the torch I left in a railway tunnel in May last year. I didn't seriously expect it to still be there but it was!

 

 

It was still working too.

 

It's a good place to visit (although you're not meant to go in the tunnel) because you can have a ride on this if you go in season.

Thanks to derek9213 (Del) on here I now have 2 Cortina calipers that don't have pistons welded into them. I've ordered the rebuild kit so I'm hoping I'll be able to tget it out on the road next weekend.

Indeed. The press is so bad regarding greenlaning that it became a major reason for selling the Disco. I don't want to be associated with twats like that. Problem is, drive away from sealed surfaces in a 4x4 and you are seen as 'one of the twats.' Even if you insist on no stupid stickers, chunky tyres or chequer plate. It came to a head when some idiot on a quad bike (across the back of which was strewn a dead fox) had a right go at me on a lane in the borders. I wasn't even driving that day! Found myself arguing with a man with a gun, but when he said "why do you want to do this?" I just couldn't find an answer. More people seem to be getting into laning, but fewer lanes are available, so people either go where the hell they like, or increase traffic levels to unrealistic levels on legal lanes. Sadly, it seems a hobby that's just not worth doing anymore.

Since I've been looking for a cheapy 4x4 I was reading up on greenlaning and there's far more bad press than sites organising it... it's almost like it all happens in secret, like trying to find out where I can go dogging or something.

 

One of the Land Rover forums had a bit of a writeup of a day out where they were continually hassled by farmers, encountering locked gates and impassible tracks. Honestly doesn't seem worth it, but pay and play sites either come across as massively expensive or OLLI-twattish where you only get in if you have a shitload of chequerplate and spotlamps.

Since these photos the front bumper has been fitted, there's still a few jobs to do but that's remarkable in that time period.
