That train is ace.

Upon reading the accidents section on wikipedia this made me laugh.

21 july 1950

The Althoff Circus organised a publicity stunt by putting a baby elephant on a train at Alter Markt station. As the elephant started to bump around during the ride, she was pushed out of the car and fell into the river Wupper.[14] The elephant, two journalists, and one passenger sustained minor injuries. After this jump, the elephant got the name Tuffi, meaning 'waterdive' in Italian. Both operator and circus director were fined after the incident.

This is Tuffi jumping from the train:

He made it onto the banks:

Here they lead him out of the River Wupper valley:

Allegedly he was rewarded with 5 kg of sugar for his stunt.

The Rhyl one looks more like 1970 than 1980 to me. In fact I estimated the year as 1970 when I first saw the picture, based on the vehicles, the colouring of the photo and the style of the "scrotum" building.

In general, most places in North Wales appear to have landed from the previous decade.

That's actually really sad. If an elephant was forced to do that, then whoever made it do it should be strung by the knackers from Blackpool Tower.

AICMFP. In 1950, this was perfectly PC. It's a wonder they didn't give him five gallons of beer for added hahaity.

Scrolling through the options on the daily and seeing this result (which is actually 33.8 miles per a UK gallon) off the last tank of fuel. I used to average that with my Bluebird and that had an engine three and a half times smaller than this...

I didn't even know Quentin Wilson was dead.

Thats not Quentin, thats his fat cousin that QW has to make a call to when someone comes back to his car lot ranting and raving about 'this Jag you sold me has been clocked'!!!!

The Celica must of been a weapon of choice too.

Those graves are very odd. Amazing what you can find on Autoshite.

Anyway, making me grin is my old Mk1 BX estate. New owner is still doing a rolling resto, gradually replacing rot with actual metal. He's treated it to a top end rebuild lately, because it blew the head gasket big time. Here it is on the current BX Club tour of Scotland. Wish I'd been able to make it, but other events conspired against me.

It's great to see it doing so well. Still get a glow when I recall how I dragged it out of a garage, into prize-winning glory! (for greatest shed at two separate events!)

£1 at the carboot. Saves me having to use my nexus when covered in shit to read the pdf version I have! And, the missus found it for me, so double shite points for her.

Saw thisvery salty looking princess, and had a chat to the seller about it, he said he loves it, despite having to get a dodgy MOT for it nowadays due to rust. Looked fun though. Sadly a horse strolled across whilst I was taking the picture

And the car park for the carboot hadn't been mown in ages, so sunk the XM into it for a laugh, and got a few people looking with a smile, which is always nice

What also made me grin was hooning it around the field to get out, mud everywhere and my mate in his octavia VRS having to crawl along due to his suspension, and the fact that we washed it yesterday and he wanted to kep it that way! Got told off for going too fast until I slowed down and pointed out you could feel the bumps more when going slow than fast, possibly due to the suspension system still being broken, but point was made and drifting resumed

That Princess is a top spot (I would say that) you didn't happen to get the reg for it did you?  I can't imagine it being that much fun to drive sitting that low but it is in one of the best colours they came in.

Posted

I had one that colour for a while, mine was a 2200 though. I have never found a more effective way of disposing of petrol.

I didn't think to take the reg. Was an x though. Will look out for it next week!

I'm surprised it's lasted this long without the windows being taken out with a pellet gun

Hey I like that Maestro thats locked up in there! WANT

Well supposedly the guy still trades - it's about 15 miles from here, I went last year and took some piccytures of things. There were some phone numbers on various handwritten signs but I don't know how recent they'll be. Every time pictures surface of that place, there's more cars missing so someone must have access.... locks were still intact.

If you want me to go and take another look, give me a yell and I'll trundle over one day.
