Spent three times that much on a new suit for my #1 son's imminent wedding and look like bloody Van Morrison in it.

On the very rare occasion I wear a suit (hatches, matches & dispatches) I look like I've stolen it.

My suit look is 'work experience boy's first day in the office'.

Suits are only for: job interviews, court cases and funerals. Or weddings, which are the same as funerals but just disguised a bit.

My nans carby mk3 fez has just been for the MOT and only failed on a headlamp bulb. It's mental - she paid £200 for it in 2005 and it's only ever had a few £10 part worns, a battery and a backbox. From the looks of things the tester was pretty lenient seeing as the emissions test shows 0.00 for everything, but still not bad going for a 22 year old motor that's had about £100 spend on it in the last 8 years.

I was antiscipating MEGAFAIL this year for no reason other than I'm a pessimist, I've not even slung my head under it since 2008 when I did the exhaust. She's getting rid soon cos she's got a biff hand and could do with power steering, but the KA I've got lined up for her deffo won't be flying through MOTs when it's 22 like the fiesta.

No, a collector from the Metro OC. He apparently has... well, innumerable Metros. He's going to have another one soon! :D We've had email exchanges and phone conversations (that's right, he hasn't seen any more than a photo of it!) and he seems like the right man for the car, plus he really wants it, plus he was prepared to give me money (quite a significant factor, ) so I'm expecting a call in the next few days to say there's a recovery truck coming.

I may be tempting fate saying this, but it does look like a happy ending. Now let's see what happens with the Granada...

Soggy?

If not he's probably at least moist. I would be to see the back of a Metro.

Woohoo, work have decided (I was on a 3 month temp contract) that they want me permanent, and it's a job I flipping love. I get to "discuss" my "package" and "salary" next month or something, I suspect I'll get offered a Prius as a company car (that's what everyone else has) but I suspect by the time I've finished with tax and stuff I (and the environment) would be absolutely fucking miles better off just buying a mk3 golf tdi and running it on Crisp N Dry. But yeah, I've got a permanent, decent job! :D:D

Was just speaking to B-I-L at the garage, apparently the cambelts just gone in the Panda. I have fond memories of the car, so asked if the car is all right. His reply, "yeah, its fine, I just fitted another one" .... Gotta love simple non-interference motoring :D

My mums MX5 is on 110k miles on the first cambelt for the same reason. I really should do it one day though, they apparently not even hard.

Big fat congrats, Cobblers, that's brilliant news.

Great news on getting a job cobbs. Sadly I'm heading the other way, losing my job in the next few weeks and possibly heading to the dole queue :(

Soz, I know this is the "grin" thread and all that......

Is that real I wonder, seems a bit sinister for an ice-cream van to say children beware I thought they went in more for the mind that child sort of thing

Well done Cobblers!!

In other news, thanks for all the advice on practical family hatchbacks - I've ignored it and just paid a deposit on a 1996 Saab 900 Convertible. It's 170 miles from home, so expect an epic chod-collecting tale soon :D

Isn't that exactly the Autoshite way! :D

I'm waiting for a phone call now about a man picking up a Metro...

En-route to the tip and get pulled over and sent for a roadside VOSA inspection. Apparently the way the Acadiane leaned going round a roundabout "just didn't look right" never been pulled over before, so that was quite exciting.

Then my van provided light relief for all the bored & cold PCs, PCSOs and VOSA inspectors who were surrounded by dented clios with excessive window tints.

Get out of the van (it being left hand drive) the police officer starts questioning and explaining everything to my passenger, whom the policeman thinks he was the driver, meanwhile I'm waving trying to interject and saying "i'm the driver, it's my van, the wheel's on this side!". Hilarity ensues when the police officer realises.

Slowly more and more people start gathering round the Acadiane.

Slightly older policeman starts reminiscing about a white twin-pot visa he used to have.

VOSA man states that he knows these leans and just laughs at it. They check it out on the database, where it's still registered as red (oops) they check my lights and send me on my way. I breathe a sigh of relief that they never check the hand-brake (to do list!).

VOSA inspection was taking place in a yet to be completed Morrisons carpark, they've used police tape to guide drivers out, I go the wrong way and have a 5 minute detour round a maze of cones and unfinished car park trying to find the exit, much to the amusement of the assembled Warwickshire constabulary.

All in all, quite an amusing waste of time.

You mean to say there's already a series about a recovery service? Oh dear, there goes TiffX1/9's dream of fame and fortune, now he'd just be seen as a copycat... :(
