From the company that brought us the Cavalier, Firenza, Carlton and Magnum comes the Adam.

Dear God, that's fugly. Looks like a REALLY bad plastic copy of a Renault Clio with an MGZR front bumper that's been too near an industrial chemical inferno.

Stating the obvious but it's probably a test mule with bits stuck on it so the press or competitors can't see the styling before launch.

Mr Claim's photo in the ebay thread, of a Metro in Liverpool surrounded by wheelie bins, reminded me of Mrs R, her sister and I taking her mother out for an evening drive in Liverpool (including a fish'n'chip stop :D ). She hadn't seen blue wheelie bins before and asked me if I knew what they were about. I was working in Liverpool and could reasonably be expected to know. I couldn't think of the correct answer on-the-spot so I made one up. "Those, Rita, are for your used gas from the cooker. When you've made your meal, the gas has to go somewhere, right? It can't just be used again straight off. So they collect it in the blue bins and take it to a recycling plant in, think it might be Helsby."

:D

And she bit. Hook, line and sinker, swallowed the lot. Good thing she was sitting behind me or she would have seen me struggling to keep a straight face. SIL, beside her, had to gaze out of the window to hide her grin. We still laugh about it.

It wasn't even April 1st.......

Saw it again today. He's done a much better repair job now - just one big ratchet strap. Sorted!

Talk about cabs taking the long way round... £80,000 fair!

Good on them though, £20,000 for charity, and way better than a mong-banger rally. I wonder if Wuvs Metrocab would make it!

Sad really but had been after four matching wheeltrims for the Corsa for ages, so rolled up to the scrappy over the road from work and found a set right away. Ten quid will do me!

Somebody has attacked Rebekah Brooks' wiki page and put down this lot:

Subsequently Brooks has been charged under the Witchcraft Act (1307). According to the Metropolitan Police - "She be a witch as she conversed through her familiars with demons and hobgoblins and did cast wicked spells". The police have confirmed that her hair was a contributing factor in thier decision to charge her with witchcraft. She now faces the ducking stool.

It seems to have stayed for now...

Japfest - the first show of the season tomorrow. Bought some wheel ages ago but had trouble finding the bolts. Long story short, ended up with my friendly tyre fitter collecting my car and fitting them at 7pm. If I couldn't have had them today I wouldn't be going tomorrow.

Only thing is I have to get up in 5 hours time to drive to Wiltshire

I was hoping that too! The chap that exited looked in his late 20s perhaps, so anything is possible...

It's a shame that photo doesn't show that it was parked very squint across the space with plenty of room to spare.

I love old cars. :D

I went out in the Cortina this afternoon, Firstly whilst i was stuck in traffic some ginger chav on a undersized BMX stopped dead and just sat staring at my car, It was a bit embarrassing really, Then i went to a Motor factors in Marks Tey where all the shop staff came out to take photos, next thing i knew i had a crowd of about 7 random blokes who were passing the shops standing around me (I wasn't dogging) taking photos and chatting about it, some bloke even asked if I'd sell it to him as he was after one.

Later on i stopped off to see my mum when a mint C reg Cavalier L with a local number plate drove past, I went to look for it a hour or so later but could only find this one instead, untaxed since 2003.

1988 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 L Mk2 in Colchester by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

Then that was followed by a drive home on the A12/14 with more people pulling up along side of me giving me the thumbs up and waving.

There's nothing like a cool old car to make you feel good about life.

^^^ Somehow I can't see that happening if you were in a contemporary Audi or BMW.

I have been planning on going to Cambodia to volunteer, but chatting to charities an opportunity has come up to work as a paid director of one for a couple of years. Means that hopefully all the money I have saved wont be needed :D still got to jump through hoops etc but looking good

See, at this point I'd have been checking the front end for bloodstains and bits of animal/person.

Seriously though, it is ace getting a response from people, whether they just stop what they're doing to watch you drive past, nudge someone else and point, or smile and wave. I had a big thumbs-up from a guy in a mint Mk1 Escort mex rep last weekend, which made me inordinately happy as his car was frankly a whole different class of cool.
