What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Me and a mate have managed to drop onto some really good storage - Only a couple of council garages, but we've managed to get the end two on a small row of 8 that are out of the way and fairly secure, best of all the row backs onto the end of his garden so its absolutely ideal. We're going to run some power and alarm them, and we've already put a gate in the fence so we can work on stuff on the hardstanding at the end of his garden if needs be. All for £5.40 per week.

Now I just need to buy a Reliant Kitten to put in it and subsequently push the boundaries of "no major vehicle repairs on garage premises" by installing an MX5 engine and gearbox.

The Council obviously have no idea how much lock-ups are selling for nowadays. :D

Well don't tell them!!!!!! I'll be wanting a couple in Barrow soon!

Doesn't sound like a "repair" to me, does it say no Japanese engine swaps?

Computer upgraded without too many troubles, 1st case was bashed in so had to wait for a replacement.

SSD drive is brilliant.

VERY annoying "electrical" noise from the video card though which is a nuisance. :(

Best £80 I've ever spent on PC stuff! Made 10x more difference than any other "upgrade" I've done before. I'm going to get one for all of my machines in time.

I thought the meaning was that a Reliant Kitten wasn't a major vehicle.

Haha, I was planning on using the "it worked perfectly well, I wasn't fixing it, just changing it" defence, but now I've got the not a major vehicle card, I'm unstoppable!

Some bird in our Atlanta office received an email last night from some right-wing anti-Muslim organization [sic] she appears to be involved with, and managed to forward it on to the entire company. I wonder what the American equivalent of a P45 is?

I expect she'll get promotion - and a free dinner at the White House.

Easy now. The republicans aren't in power at the moment.

Going to buy shopping, discovering fresh Danish pastries in the reduced section, being the first one there and buying them all at 20p each.

Omnomnomnom.

Van passed it's MOT with just an advisory on one front tyre.

£55.00 though, teach me for buying a 3.5ton one....

Not quite the same but someone I worked with once managed to send a (boring) email to EVERYONE in the company (talking thousands and thousands of people) and the storm it created was absolutely epic.

All that means is that they have a slightly less right-wing set of gun nuts, unscrupulous oligarchs and religious crazies in power at the moment.

Finding out that white E reg Sierra hatchback that lives nearby, looks like new and is used as a daily driver is also a diesel in fine fettle. I'll have to get a picture, but I only see it on days I don't have my camera with me. The same guy also has a Fiat/Talbot camper in his garden, last seen up on axle stands.

While I remember, this picture too.

How can you look at that and not be amused? The further right you go, the funnier it gets.

Rover passed its MOT equivalent with a clean sheet, happiness :D

My CBX750F is a fairly shite bike. It's got the daft 1980s 16" front wheel to make sure cornering is never less than entertaining, and the equally-obligatory 1980s non-functioning anti-dive system.

I see your CD200, and raise you my Yamaha RXS100. Complete with rotted-out seat pan, pathetic 6v electrics, and impossible-to-diagnose power drain. 8)

Many Herald parts have arrived !

Downside - bank balance has took a big hit (Thanks rimmer brothers  )

Anyway, welding gas shall be purchased along with mig wire in order to obtain an MOT by the end of the month 8)

Canley Classics (good range) and James Paddock (slightly cheaper) also worth bearing in mind for Herald parts.

Thanks Pete :)

Found Canley Classics pricing not too far off Rimmers, and emailed James Paddock about parts and didn't get a reply :(

True about Canley's prices, but I like them because they're really into Heralds. They're responsible for getting a lot of unobtainable parts back into production, as well as some interesting modifications like the trunnionless suspension kit.

Always got great service from Paddocks, but their website broke sometime last year and they still haven't got the new one running.

Someone mentioned online that apple are recalling the 1st generation iPod nanos, cos they set on fire or something. Dug mine out of the man drawer, sent it off to apple and 6 weeks later I get a brand new 8gb touchscreen ipod nano as replacement.

It's no use to me, so I boffed it on ebay for £64.50 (50P cheaper than the cheapest one on there) and it sold in 45 seconds. Nice touch, really.

I'm grinning because I've been using every tightwad driving technique in the book and seem to have finally managed to beat the magic fuel consumption number of 10lt/100km. For the metrically challenged among you, that's a shade over 28 miles per gallon. This number may still sound unimpressive, but it's not half bad considering the price of LPG...works out to a mere 10p per mile! Alright, the savings may not be massive in absolute terms, but my libertarian psyche is contented knowing that the state only gets 2.5p in fuel tax/VAT for every mile I do.

Finally getting my own broadband installed. Since I needed a line installed I went with Plusnet, who have the added bonus of not having an offshore call centre

Seems like you've taken my internets away, because, while they normally are quite good, today Plusnet is dead here and I'm having to tether from my phone.
