I am not a kid anymore but my mind is certainly juvenile

I might shock one or more of you…… well, “Grow up”

My widowed lady (can I call her friend) sent a picture of her carrots from her allotment this morning.

It triggered a dark dirty recess in my mind……

Who’s juvenile now??

Must remember not to mix Golden Wonder and Walkers crisps late at night. Weird dream last night  where an unmarked Renault 4 with a modern siren was chasing a Hillman Imp. 🤪

Ok, this sounds like a grumpy post, but bear with until the end, it’s actually a cheerful.

Volvo’s battery dies totally as we were picking up some bits and bobs in town, as in it started fine at home, but 10 miles later in town, nothing much happening. The cheerful bit is we happened to be in the only retail place in Aberystwyth with a Halfords, which is the only  place on Sunday you will get a car battery in town, so the car picked a good place to do it. Also Halfords must have price matched their batteries recently as even a cheap ‘powerline’ one from  Tanya batteries online would have only been a tenner less than the 4 yr guarantee Halfords one. Lucky all round I think.

"how do we make freddos locally relevant to Australia?"

"I dunno, make them koalas or something"

Point of note - Freddos are Australian. Very Australian, they're a bit of an icon over there.

They were introduced by confectionery brand MacRobertsons in 1930 as Freddo Frog, an inexpensive milk chocolate bar that would appeal to children, and sold for 1d. It was invented by an employee called Harry Melbourne, who settled on a frog after considering various other animals, and named after one of his childhood friends known as 'Freddo'.

A number of different Freddos were developed over the years, including the original milk chocolate, white chocolate, milk chocolate with peanuts, and strawberry flavoured versions.

Caramello Koala was a new Freddo variant introduced by MacRobertsons in 1966, effectively a remoulded Freddo bar with a soft caramel filling. It was extensively advertised on television and became an instant hit.

When Cadbury bought out MacRobertsons in 1967 they continued making Freddo and Caramello bars under their own name, amongst many others (such as Cadburys Picnic, also a MacRobertson line originally), and eventually started making Freddo bars in the UK in 1973, retailing at 2p.

However they didn't really catch on, crowded out by other long-established lines like Cadburys Fudge, Nestlé Milky Bar and Mars Milky Way as inexpensive treats for kids, and they were discontinued in 1979.

On relaunch in the UK in 1994, the Freddo bar was marketed at a 10p price point. Freddo Caramel was simply a remoulding of Caramello Koala, and replaced the Taz Bar which was a very similar UK-only small caramel bar featuring the Looney Tunes character - using their own character IP meant that Cadbury would save money by not having to pay Warner Bros.

The same basic product was sold by Cadbury in South Africa during the 1990s as Caramello Bear, using a different mould again.

In Australia, Freddo bars remain the nation's top-selling chocolate bar with Caramello Koala as #2. Giant Caramello Koalas are also made available around Christmastime.

The Caramello name is also used on the Australian equivalent of Dairy Milk Caramel, as it's so well known there.

How do I know all this crap? My ex was Australian, and in those pre-internet shopping days we'd have to go up to London and stock up with her favourite Caramello bars in specialist Australian grocers...

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Got up at 1, I work nights.

Had a nice sit in the living room with a coffee with the dog in a little warm chink of sun. Actually felt relaxed for the first time in I don't know how long.

My brain is usually like a box of squirrels bouncing around so it was a change.

No doubt I'll feel like a 9 year old on too many smarties again tomorrow.

Not sure if I should laugh at the latest 'offer' from ao.com

Or cry, or put this in the grumpy thread?

WTF do I need one of these for? I've just managed to remember to take the feckin' iTelePhone with me when I leave the house - so now the bloody twin tub can get in touch?
Life is (more and more) like an episode from Red Dwarf Seasons 1&2

I’ve no idea, but that’s a good price for a 9kg machine.

No clue on the pricing - we run two ancient, USA, top loader machines that take about 12 - 15kg (ish) - one for smeggy horse stuff, one for smeggy people stuff.
Both remapped to 240V from 110V.
They're about a decade apart in age but, like a Sevel van, it's just the outer design that changes with a few extra bits of electrickery added.
Also splined driveshaft, clutch,  oil filled gearbox, drum brake with proper brake shoes. 100% user replaceable bits - so kind of WashingMachineShite.
(note: Sevel vans do not have 100% user replaceable bits - I'm talking laundry here)
Once you whip the outer casing off (library picture below) it's pretty simple stuff - most parts UK available but, sometimes, US.

ao.com got my details as we bought a condensing tumble drier for the about-to-have-a-baby sprog. Heat pump enabled thing - if their blurb is to be believed then it's mega-better than our A Rated one - such that it can pay for itself in a year or two? Now, that would make me grin - if it is true?

Having some food in a cafe in Prestatyn.

A group of elderly ladies were sat near the door - as one stood up to leave she dropped her guts.

I almost spat my food out.

Finally replaced the aux belt on the C1 , 100k and looking a bit shiny and squeaking .

Note , when releasing the belt tension , back the adjuster all the way out , that way the belt will come off once the alternator is moved .

Old belt had no cracking but was quite dry and shiny ..

New belt has only been sat on the bench for a year ..!!!! 🫣
