It's more the shite reviews that have me worried but it's for one night. It can't be worse than the last time I went to Pontins...

Any recommendations for places to see/grab food? I'm there all day Wednesday.

The TV tower by Alexanderplatz U and S bahn station. Everybody says you have to book a week in advance but we just turned up not long after it opened, about 10.30, and walked straight in. We only had cake and beer as we'd not long had breakfast but other stuff was available. IMG_20220807_101132.jpg.167597432e602e8637eadcad9ab1f72f.jpg

Even the ground floor is 1960s space age and it has the fastest lift I've ever been in. It has an altimeter as there are no intermediate floors.

It revolves, if you're wondering. Takes about 45 minutes to do a lap.

Or the restaurant in the KaDeWe department store. It's like a very fancy IKEA restaurant but much more expensive. KaDeWe is the closest  they have to Harrods, maybe more like Selfridges. You pick what you want and then they weigh it and it always turns out to be more than you think it's going to be but at least you only pick the stuff you really like. Nearest U bahn is Wittenburgplatz but its quite near Zoological Gardens main line station.

But about every fourth shop is a decent bakery, so  a fancy cheese and ham roll, a cake and a coffee is a perfect lunch.

As above, the technology museum is an absolute must if you like railways. It's built around an old roundhouse so all the railway stuff is there but they've built over it. They even have a Stuka dive bomber in full dive pose.

Yahoo motoring article claims discovering this item on your car can be “life changing”.

What is it? The sun visor being able to swivel round to the side window to block out the sun.

FFS! Next it will be “Motorist discover hidden middle pedal that prevents death!”

Tonights papanaşi came as a pair.

I finished them but I'll admit I struggled. It probably is a good job I don't live here.

It's getting atmospheric outside too.

Luckily it was only a five minute walk back to the hotel.

Cake and beer? Now that is a combination I would not have dreamt of.

Little blue C1 is back with a new LUK clutch for £320. Got my money's worth out of the old one. Plate down to rivets, cover has fallen apart and fingers almost worn thru.

I came 2nd in a Dad's potato and spoon race today 🙂

20240531_143017.jpg.322961efde19a236b803316462d74c6e.jpg

I applied an engineering* strategy of holding the spoon loosely between my finger and thumb to act as a kind of crude suspension system to absorb the shocks from my running.

A lot of the other Dads were faster than me but they quickly dropped their potatoes. My strategy worked well and I didn't drop mine once. I didn't see the tactics of the winning* dad but I did hear some people say I was cheated out of first place. I didn't see if he had blu-tac on his potato or something though as I was concentrating too much 😂

My son also came second in his own similar race!
