What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I'm in for three Roffles at the moment.  I still haven't got my licence back so I can't do collections; I've arranged to buy another car for daily use anyway (which I also can't collect yet); I have nowhere to put extra cars; and there's the slight issue of no income at the moment.  WTF am I doing?   Somebody stop me!

10 years of disco td5 ownership today. I got it cheap* as the clutch bearing / dual mass flywheel screams. 10 years later it still screams for the first half mile and then goes quiet. Think that's a win.

As long as it doesn’t do what my Golf’s DMF did recently and shats itself at a set of temporary lights during a named storm after being stuck in traffic for an hour after dark, you’re all good!

Just watched an absolutely brilliant episode of the Grand Tour. An hour and 20 minutes of the three of them pissing about in RVs. They really are back on form, I was laughing like a drain. :D

A number of things have made me happy today, not the least of which was a 'phone call from a proper mate out of the blue (you know who you are and it's much appreciated) and also a very tidy eBay win (not shite related) just now.

350 miles in two days in the 2CV, which ran perfectly apart from refusing to start at a set of roadworks. I'd turned her off as it was a very long queue. Bit embarrassing. Wonder if she's fouling the plugs up again?

That Lancia is lovely.  I papped its big brother at Kings Lynn a few months back.

We have life!

Been for a drive this evening and the top end rattle has calmed down a bit as oil circulated about again. Feels perkier as well, which is nice.

Rooting around in the car's history the last time I noticed a timing belt being changed was 2003 when my in-laws bought it second hand. Wife's owned since around 2011. It may have been changed between now and then, if not it's managed to do over 100k since the last documented change.

It's such an easy little car to work on as well. I'm hoping to get it well into 200k before it dies. It's on 176k at the moment.

I have a space in Bowness that you could store one at Eddy, its off the road so no legal issues :)

Well , the Corolla failed the mot sat , noisy r/h front wheel bearing.....damm ! .when she got home I jacked it up and turned the wheel , it made a terrible noise and stiff to turn screech and grind feel to it ,damm damm damm . I removed the wheel and brake pads . Still the same wheel is going to fall off noise . Then I saw what was causing it !post-27086-0-70012800-1552257600_thumb.pngthe rubber doughnut on the drive shaft had moved down the drive shaft and when jacked up it trapped itself on the A arm pivot , the noise was the rust and dirt as it tuned on the shaft .post-27086-0-18927200-1552257918_thumb.jpegpost-27086-0-67592800-1552257941_thumb.jpegeasy fix just pushed it back up the driveshaft . Back for a free retest next week .i was more worried about the emissions test but passed that easy ! . I am grinning.

Reading about the prototype that was made of the Reliant Rebel with a Ford 1600E engine fitted. Given the Rebel weighed absolutely fuck all it had something like 204bhp per tonne. I bet that thing fucking flew.

For anyone thinking of mounting a propane tank on the roof of their bus -

Sceptical about it being Stockholm.

Saw my family at the weekend, picked my sister up from the station in my Merc on the way to Mum's house.

When we got out she looked round it and said, "You know, I miss the days when you had cars whose value doubled when you filled them with fuel."

It gets worse when you think how much cheaper petrol used to be :-)

Well, true! I think the least I ever sold a car for was a tenner mind you, and it probably would have cost £30 to fill its tank at that time (Citroën GSA, 2004ish)

Called into Lidl today for some minor bits for Mrs BMH.

Had a rummage through their cheap bits box.

Got a letter from my insurance company today:

I think we can do better than that.

Let's see what that meerkat bastard has to say:

A definite improvement.

Now for that site everyone seems puzzled by:

Oh yes, that's more like it!

Now, just for fun, lets tell them it has a non-standard engine, uprated brakes and nonstandard suspension....

Well. It'd be rude not to, eh...?

I'll be phoning a couple of specialist insurers in the morning as there may be some plans afoot, but I need to make sure they're viable...

Chicken for tea yesterday, I didn't know whether to eat it or buy it a drinkattachicon.gif20190311_190654.jpg

One of my goals is to learn to cook a roast. I can't be any worse than what my first attempt will turn out like. :)

Re: insurance. The renewal for my Nissan Almera 2.2 dCi came in at £167.something, which is the cheapest my insurance has ever been. B) For the first time in 24 years the VED is now my largest standard car expense (ie: non maintenance or repair).
