What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Just scored myself one of those jump starter/air compressor packs for free! Got talking to one of the ladies who lives right by where my BMW and Sterling live. I was talking about my Sterling being sat there for ages and how I hadn't taken it out for a run as the battery had gone flat, she remembered that she'd bought a jump starter pack for her husband a few years previous but he never used it (he passed on a few years ago) and it was just sitting around collecting dust. She brought it down handed it to me! Great! I offered her some cash but she refused. Now hopefully I can the Sterling started and run it up and down the carpark.

Hope it still works. Those old lead acid ones get seriously grumpy if they're not regularly charged. Lovely gesture though.

I'm the same! Run off for 20 minutes finding all the old trucks for the relevant thread then find everyone later!

Fair was cancelled this year though so nothing this year

The Saab 9-5 Aero I was offered for £250 that I offerred to my nephew making no profit(!) has now done 2000 miles in his ownership. He serviced it last Saturday, and even dropped the sump, which was teported as being as clean as a whistle, and the occasional oil light flicker has stopped.

Still needs to do the ARB's as the suspension creaks and groans a little

However, like most of his cars which he uses to destruction and never cared about, he really likes the Saab and even washes it each week.

Looks very repectable

So that's what makes the suspension creak is it?

I think you're right, it's been on charge since yeaterday evening and it's not working at all. Anyone know how to repair these or is it a case of chuck it away?

Posted

'Repairing' consists of replacing the battery, as it will be fucked.

Hmmm, may aswell just purchase myself one of those newer smaller battery jump jobs as I've already a couple of compressors, just need something to start the Sterling if the battery decides to run out again.

Take it apart and look what battery it is, they're usually cheap from ebay maplin or rs components

Just had a quick shufty;

Yep, it can be replaced but is a bit of a faff to get the battery off, replaced and it needing to be kept on charge almost constantly.

Anyone fancy it for postage? Or free if picked up/relayed?

It's got all the mod cons, torch, air compressor, jump starter leads and all the gubbins that goes with it. No charger though, used one of mine to try charging it up. Doesn't look like it's ever been used, clean yellow case and leads very clean.

What charger are you using? You might need to hook it direct to that battery with another in parallel to get it charging.

Just a normal AC 230 charger, similar to what would have come with it originally, though it would've originally come with a AC 240. I don't think it makes much difference. I think you're right, it needs a boost of some sort to boost it back into life. I don't think it's ever been charged.

Those batteries are about £35 off ebay for a cheapie (thats probably better than the one already in it) or you can get a very good one (Odyssey PC680) for about £90.

Passed a happy couple of hours this afternoon at a toyfair, in the company of Junkman, stillOrange and my workmate Daz.  Came home with a carrier bag full of little cars too, oops.

My girlfriend is of the opinion that once I get the Triumph down here I should replace my Civic with a Hillman Super Minx estate. What a girl!

I haven't the foggiest, it's what he told me. I have little knowledge of car suspension - so much more complicated than bikes
