You are welcome :-) it's a fantastic organisation and one of the real gems of this country. EVERYONE who works or volunteers for them deserves our thanks.

Nice one mate, thanks again. Really, thanks again.

If you are ever down in the Poole area, then DM me and if I am about then I will show you the factory where we build the Shannon Class boats.

In fact that goes for any of you good people. I am always happy to show the RNLI off and you might just stick a fiver in the collection box or buy something from the shop  :-)

Have a couple of pictures I took:

Will do! We are off to Cornwall gain soon and always drop in at the Looe station for a look around. We have seen it launch a few times, thankfully either false alarms/ not required or positive outcomes, two of which were for the same muppet getting cut off by the tide two days running!

You'd be very welcome.

Yes, plenty of daft shouts sadly.

To kind of bring this back to how it started, a few of the people who have kindly joined our 'Governor membership' program, treat us like the AA and call us for the most trivial of reasons.

I'll certainly take you up on that one day. The importance of the RNLI cannot be overstated, heroes one and all.

I supported them in my own small way in a charity banger rally* last year, and the collecting box in my local chippy always gets my loose change.

We did a tour of exmouth lifeboat Station when we went on holiday, it was very interesting! Eva got bored when they showed us the engines and stuff, I ignored her

On the way home I pass an old house whose end wall has been routinely whitewashed and painted with messages. "Welcome Home......"

"Happy Birthday......"

This has been going on for 25yrs +.

Imagine the surprise 3 weeks ago when this appeared!

While my desktop PC was booting up I thought I'd have a look for something (cue two Grumps, but I'll spare you those).

What I did find was a pile of old photos.  A cursory dig through showed at least one of the Anglia van I remember my parents having when I was very small, which means there will most likely be more, of other cars we had before I was old enough to take pictures of them.  Once I've worked out what's going to be suitable, I'll scan them and might even open a thread....

Good on you fella.

Like I say, if I'm about (I normally am) then I will gladly give you a mini tour.

My daughters school play.

In the middle of doing treasure Island, someone points out that the pirates parrot has fallen off his shoulder.

Then a counter and shopkeeper appeared on stage and they did the dead parrot sketch.

They are only 6 and 7 year olds.

Personally I think it entirely odd that it's not one of the emergency services. We are an island!

Reading the account of the Penlee Lifeboat disaster in Conn Iggleston's book had me in tears.

Nooo! I have from time to time scratched my chin and pondered at some of the decisions made by the heidbummers at the RNLI, but the chaps who carry the beepers have nothing but my thanks, respect and sporadic donations; it's difficult to see how the service offered is likely to be improved by it being run by mandarins in SW1 and paid for from the exchequer.

Decided I needed to watch Batman tonight. The Michael Keaton one, Prince soundtrack, Kim Basinger etc.

Remember that bit where the Batmobile shoots out a grappling iron, which wraps aloud a lamp post enabling it to corner REALLY FAST? As featured in the Commodore 64 Batman game if I remember correctly. When all the Joker's henchmen who are pursuing Batman spin of the road and crash?

He's doing about 15mph. I can corner faster in the Omega (safely), with Wang Chung Happy Life ditchfinders on the back wheels. It's comically slow.

My 12 year old son loves Jack Nicholson as the joker - to be fair he played a very good nut job.

Yes, stories like that mean motivating myself each and every day for work, regardless of how shitty a time I'm having, is very easy.

Those were good when I delivered paint. Control of the recovery was important not to spill it too..

My greatest achievement was a tri-axle coach sideways in 4th (about 25-30mph) on a roundabout, then out the other way all the way across a bridge over the A27 & sideways on the next roundabout. Bottom of Long Furlong for those that know it. Frosty roads & empty coaches are surprisingly good fun...

Just got a like for this & it reminded me of one of the funniest things about driving cars sideways.

I once borrowed a Skoda 130 off a friend for a while, I was happily driving it sideways everywhere one wet day when I got a text saying how well I was drifting it - the text was from the owner who was two cars behind in the queue :D

Drove to the next town over this afternoon to pick up a cordless drill I'd spotted on Gumtree (14.4v Black & Decker job, in case with accessories, all for a tenner - bargain I reckon).  Pulled into the Sainsbury's petrol station to take advantage of their free airline (tyres on the Rover were a bit low) and my old Kenari was in there filling up, still wearing its stylish* two-tone paint job.  It's obviously managed to scrape another MOT then.

Also, remember that lovely green B reg 205 that I posted on here a few months ago?  I've found out where it lives.  Looks like it's in stable ownership, but I might pop an if-you-ever-sell-it note through the letterbox anyway.

Lobbed some stuff in a tip not too far from here and noticed a decent McCulloch petrol mower, another (make) one and a small generator. 'The cheaper mower runs, the other and the generator' needs stripping and working on'. I asked him if he'd primed the mower and done anything with he genny 'I'm a mechanic mate, I've done all that. They need stripping down and fiddling with'

Hey ho, £25 for all three; the cheap mower smokes but cut my lad's lawn superbly and I started on the others today: genny seemed to have to much 2T in the fuel, so emptied it, refilled then noticed the fuel switch was off. Put it to 'on' and it fired straight up.

The McCulloch I just topped up the fuel, wouldn't start so I swapped plugs from the other mower and it fired up first pull.

I was at our tip earlier, saw too late someone lob a new sealed boxed vcr in the skip...

My dad's just posted this picture up on him in the 70s with someone called Ivan Mauger at Peterborough showground. But what's the car?
