The marshalls at Anglesey for the 24hr 2CV race were superb. Very friendly. Some of the poor buggers were trapped at their stations for the entire race! Nowt happens without them. Very grateful that folk do it so willingly.

Neighbour knocked on the door earlier specifically to let me know there was a gang of kids trying to steal EVERYONE'S dice caps, but were particularly interested in mine.  Other neighbour came over to let me know the same.  Fuck me but that seems a bit like community spirit and decent folk,  I'd entirely forgotten what that was like.

Must be something in the water with this volunteering malarkey, I've just signed myself up at Telford steam railway to help out. I was planning on just wielding a paintbrush or something but they need some help with track laying which sounds like fun and want to train me up as a guard more or less straight away as they are often short staffed. At the bigger lines you would need to be there for years before they let you loose on the big jobs but from what the chap was saying they'd be happy to train me up to drive the trains once I've passed as a guard as it's helpful to have plenty of staff, can't wait for Tuesday night now :D

Had to have a tree surgeon round to remove a couple of branches from a large eucalyptus tree that were posing a threat to the shed. The guys did the job fine. Grin is, when I mentioned that we had a wood burning stove, they asked if I would like the wagon load of ash tree sections that they had just cut down locally. Result!

All In two foot sections of around a foot diameter. Must be around half a ton of it. Will need to saw/chop it all up, but even so. Free heat all winter!

Man who chops his own wood gets warm twice !

Brings back memories (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense) of Saturday nights getting pissed on the cheapest alcohol available, before trying our fake ID in the local club...

It were thunderbird when I were a lad...

I've done some airfield stage-rally marshalling which is excellent fun, if a little windswept at times!

I did a bit at Knockhill and East Fortune circuits when i was up north for a couple of yrs.

Now that was windswept!

Us northerners mate a friendly bunch.

The chap I was paired with has been doing it 12 years and was at Anglesey for the 2CVs.... Said it was brilliant, I think the gratitude goes both ways as marshalls really appreciate friendly drivers who listen to instruction.

This never happens to me!  Mikeknight used the Xantia to do grown-up errands while I was doing some work and he went and found another Xantia estate.

Did they sidle up to each other and make smaller cars?

I think we finally know how silver Xsaras are made.

If a Xantia mates with a Synergie do you get a Xsara Picasso?

On that basis, I'd like to shag Olivia Newton John in the back of one and try and make a Xanadu.

I really should have stopped finding this sort of thing funny about 30 years ago https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@57.6555323,-1.9997309,3a,50.1y,336.02h,82.03t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sby-8AOr1X-eOjrgPxlVnNg!2e0?hl=en

Also, finally got an ID on this car* I found in a quarry nearly three years ago.

I was out on Sunday and happened to find myself in a crowded room with lots of people chattering.  But the one voice I could hear above everything else was a foreign lady who sounded just like Latka

I'm not a racist, some of my best friends etc, but this lady's squeaky voice in broken English made me smile.  I could almost feel myself going over the bridge following cab 804

Finally getting Dave aka Hotwire to blow his top and cry into his fair trade oragnic mung bean dinner on this forum , completely going against his own fascist rules which dont apply to himself or the 25 or so chums that lick his botty .

It is their forum, so they can do what they want. There's no point in criticising it as it will always result in the same thing (ie a flaming from the usual clique), and then you wouldn't be able to reach a very wide audience selling a retro/classic/shite car if/when you get banned.

I though HotWire dealt very reasonably with that to be honest. My reply wouldn't have been half so polite.

Don't be a twat all your life,

Hotwire of retro rides fame is a good guy. I've met him in real life and honestly he's just doing his best to keep the thing from turning into a grumpy bollocks flame war. He's a bit smiley but there's a lot said for not being a bunch of moaning fuckers like us. It works here but when the numbers increase it just all turns into a pool of "grumpy old man thread"

Just trying to bait the guy and wind him up is a total dick move, he genuinely does it all to try and keep the forum and community on its feet.

Didn't sound like he did too much crying, sounded like he justified a forum making a bit of cash to spend on things for the good of the forum.
