Took the Merc in to the local garage this morning to have the tracking done and the wheels balanced.  This was the Christmas tree in reception:

Went out this morning to get two new tyres fitted to my ageing Golf.  The tyre place is called 'Invicta Tyres' in Wincheap, Canterbury.  Properly old-school.  I got there just after opening which avoided the usual scrum on the road outside of people trying to push into the queue.

I don't think the workshop has been cleaned since 1978.  My partner's Dad has been using them for at least twenty years and I've been using them since we moved here.  Just a good, old-fashioned place that does one thing and does it incredibly well.

Treated the Golf to a quick jet wash at Morrisons afterwards as it had got to the point that even I was embarrassed about the algae that's growing on the roof...

Ooh, that's an early one!  I still reckon these make just about the best first car of anything on the road.

When I was young my Granddad worked as a tyre salesman. I used to go to his work sometimes. The overwhelming smell of new tyres. Look at those photos I can just smell them now. It was located in Billet Lane Hornchurch. street view of  2008 still shows that Universal tyres was operating there.

I trust you went for the Firemax FM601s?  They look like a quality tyre.

Falkens as ever.  One of the best things about the car is that I can get several mid-range tyres for the cost of a single mid-range tyre for a modern with silly wheels...

I thought the same, I could smell that picture.

My dad worked at Kennings in the 60's & 70's, as a kid I used to sometimes go with him on weekend callouts, they had the coal board contract, so we had to go into the wonderful smelling tyre warehouse, load the huge tyres with a hiab onto the back of the flat bed truck and off to some Derbyshire pit. Wonderful times.

Three of my grandkids have them.  There are loads of them round here, five of my neighbours drive them.

This Christmas card, received from a neighbour. I think it's supposed to depict Santa doing a snow angel, but to me it just looks like he's been run over.
