Because the little resturant that does pizzas want 30 bucks for one

If you're somewhere big enough for a pizza hut I'm sure there's a dairy doing chicken + chips with chicken salt

Used my welder in anger for the first time at the weekend. Welded a nut onto a broken off stud to get it out. Might only be a small thing but felt like a big achievement to me lol

I watched a YouTube video where edd China welded a nut on a stud to extract it, he looked like a spaceman

Made me think

I need to weld a nut on, back in 10 when I've donned all my protective gear, said no DIY mechanic ever

Looking away while holding a hand up has worked since the invention of the home welder

The Xsara Picasso needed a new door mirror. Well, it didn't need one but I wanted one because the cover was in primer from the previous owner (as if I was ever going to get around to painting it 🤣) and the electronic adjustment is knackered. Since it's the passenger one, it's not easy to adjust it to the desired position from the driver's seat just by pushing on the glass. You get my gist...

Thought I'd have a look around for a replacement, I couldn't find any second hand ones in the same colour, only powerfold ones which have a different connector

Thought I'd check ECP, about £60-70 + VAT in black.. Hmmm..

GSF?

Well, this is the grin...

£3

Yes, THREE Great British Pounds! :)

Plus the dreaded VAT... Which made it a whopping £3.60 grumble grumble grumble

There was no photo on the (trade) site so I was half expecting just a mirror glass to turn up, but no, they've sent me an electric, heated complete door mirror assembly for three quid! What a bargain for a skinflint like me 😅

It's black, which I think will look better than primer and since the car is navy blue it's a pretty inoffensive colour contrast anyway, better than a red second hand one which I'd have to paint or try to swap the covers over

TLDR; clearance parts for the win 😅

Weirdly the other side is £27 🤔 (plus vat...)

Still very cheap but not enough for me to buy it just for that reason :)

There's apparently 1 more left hand one in stock for £3.. I'm tempted to get it as a spare.. and keep the original as a spare 😅

Also there's a complete lower arm listed for £2.50!

Trade only m7 :)

I think the prices are account specific. Looking on the retail site they don't actually show stock of anything

Try not to end up like me when GSF were clearing a load of Sedona parts out around 10 years ago, I got sick of tripping over my 'well its only a fiver' wishbones, droplinks, discs, pads, tie rods, ball joints, radiator etc. The injectors shit themselves a month later and our lass lost confidence in it and part ex'd it against Galaxy.....

I've definitely* not** done that before... Whereby it all ended up in the bin when I realized I was never going to use it, and nobody wanted to buy any of it 😅

ECP were clearing out Citroen Saxo handbrake cables a good few years ago, they were something silly like £1 or £2. It was a time when they were just about starting to vanish off the roads but we were still seeing plenty come through the workshop so thought it would be a good idea to keep stock of a few... Obviously we began to look after fewer and fewer Citroen saxos to the point I can only think of 1 that remains in our customer base to this day. Said handbrake cables were eventually binned recently to make way for more useful items to keep in stock 😅

I've still got 5 Mann air filters in the garage for my Zafira that was written off over 3 years ago - really must pop them on here one day - they might be useful for someone.....

I've only just recently thrown away the used head gasket and cambelt from my old Rover 45 which I got rid of, erm, 5 years ago.. what the obsession is with keeping old parts - I don't know! What I thought I was going to do with a used, failed (obviously, K Series innit 😅) head gasket - I don't know either! I did also keep some fucked power steering pipes for a couple of years, but they did actually come in useful recently for something else! I'm just a bit of a hoarder, but I like to call it "being resourceful" :)

Making me smile tonight was spending Valentine's Day evening as third wheel to my best friends, watching ice hockey and eating the venue's excellent fast food.  Oh, and our team (Coventry Blaze) won 4-3 in overtime for their first victory in quite a few matches.

That was once the Triumph and Rover assembly plant. I remenber seeing the cars on stands being pushed by hand from place to place on the line. I always referred to my SD1 being hand built because of that.

Can you get a passenger wing mirror for a mazda 2 circa 2013?  Son's wife has broken a clip on the back of the mirror which attaches it to the motor assembly inside.

Son works at GSF in finance department, and texted me yesterday, looking for the mirror glass and plastic that it sits in.  I found whole mirrors or glass on thewingmirrorcompany.co.uk but suggested he email from his work email, the manager in his local branch. I have been trying to get him to get me the employee friends and family discount since he stared, but he's been quite unhelpful in that.  In that he doesn't buy car parts, so it's not on his radar. Maybe this might spur him on.

I've always had jobs with an early start, 5am usually

As I've got older I've found it difficult to sleep past 6am, semi retired now so no need to be up  early but I still wake up

It's so quiet in the house with nobody else awake 6am - 8am , peaceful, just the gentle snoring of the dog and tinnitus to keep me company

Same here, I wake up at 5:30 ish most mornings. Start work at 8. I usually leave the house at about 6 and stop off somewhere scenic on the way to work in my van and have a brew and a few biscuits and read a book. It does me a lot of good.

On the days I don't have the kids I try and get into the office before 7.30. Seems a sweet spot before the London wankers descend on the m40.

Days when I have the kids I leave at 9 when the aforementioned is all over and it's far nicer! Still leave at 4/4.30 though 👌
