I don't think that particular nugget of information has ever come in handy.

Actually it did, at some (possibly manufactured) point. Maybe the reason will come to me if I sleep on it

Aldi’s TV advert for their own brand nappies.
They tell you Pampers cost £10 at Tesco but for just £9.57 you can get a pack of Aldi’s nappies, wipes and some other baby items including CHICKEN CURRY!!!??

Who the f@ck gives curry to a baby. Nappy changing is horrific enough as it is FFS!

I was down at my parents' over the weekend as they were having a bit of a do for their 50th wedding anniversary.  Lots of old family friends there, some of whom I hadn't seen in decades.  Even the priest who did their wedding ceremony came along.

One of my mum's uni friends was telling us how her dad's portable air conditioning unit had broken down during the hot weather last month.  He took it to bits and discovered that some of the soldered joints on the PCB in the controller had cracked, so he re-soldered them.  He also found a couple of wires which had snapped inside their insulation where they went round a tight corner, so he snipped off the broken bits and let in repair sections.  He put it all back together and now it works fine.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he is 108.

People like him, I would really like to have a chat with and hear his life story, experiences, etc.

He is old enough to have experienced the Great Depression, WW2 and much more.

My Dad used to say something along the lines of “ we won the war, why should we use their f@cking litres?”

My dad used to say "It's only a crime if you get caught". Which probably wasn't a healthy thing to be telling a child who was already displaying a very healthy disregard for authority!

Kids love curry.  By the time they're 4 or so they start to complain if it's "too spicy" unless they eat it regularly.

I'd bet there's not much of a hint of spices in a shop bought curry anyway, nevermind one targeted at kids.

I presume it’s more Korma than Vindaloo, it’s just the thought of changing a curried nappy.

Curry is there to miss out the middle bit and apply directly to nappy

Listed a set of alloys that I thought were worthless on Facebook Marketplace on Friday. Phone went mad over the weekend and I decided to stop replying for a bit to work out what was going on. Got nearly 300 messages!

One of them was from an acquaintance who wanted to tell me that they're actually quite valuable and sent me a link to where to buy them. So I've deleted the ad and I'll be taking some better pictures and writing a better ad and asking for more.

Thanks Joe! He could've easily offered my asking price and made a few quid but he chose not to. We weren't Facebook friends - he just spotted the ad and decided to let me know (he knew who I was when he saw the ad as we have met several times as friends of friends)

gwan then what wheels are they? 😬

Hmm, I can see how you'd just go "yeah, generic sporty wheels". If I ended up with a set I'd probably stick em on for £100 because they're not my bag either!

They came with a car that I did not expect to have any parts of value, so I asked for £100 on Marketplace. Pulled the ad though and I'm going to take some better pictures and ask for more!

Tyres are nothing special. Two Avon ZV7s and two Nankang NS20s but decent tread, so they're at least usable rather than a lot of wheels which need the tyres changing before use

I bought an Xr4i advertised for spares as I needed a decent interior for mine.

Turned up on a set of Revolution Rfx's and a stainless exhaust fitted.

The seller was more concerned about hiding the rust around the windscreen he'd forgotten to mention.

A mate of mine bought a 106 XSi, again "spares" because it failed the MOT on emissions. He paid £100 off some random 50+ year old woman who knew nowt about it and had bought it off a bloke up the road a couple of years prior.

It wasn't the best shell, but it had tidy Sparco Cromadora wheels, an original BTB exhaust and 4 branch manifold, mega top end DLS speakers and Bilstein b16 dampers. Probably £1500+ worth of parts at the time!

He prebooked an MOT, drove 50 miles to it where I think it actually passed straight through because the previous MOT place had put it through a cat test and it never came with one.

the mx5 once again proving to be the most practical member of my fleet

I've been riding my electric bike to work 6 days a week for about a month, and I've been charging the battery up off the mains supply in the camper van whose batteries are charged off the solar panel. Not on purpose, it was just more convenient that way.

So I've accidentally been super mega green, and I'm surprised that even in inclement weather we've had lately, a single 200W solar panel has easily fuelled 25+ miles a day with the bike in "turbo/lazy fat cunt" mode. That's pretty good, and slightly more eco friendly than driving my T25 which would have burned two gallons of super unleaded over the same journey.

Today has been a good day.

2 things:

1) My wife received an email telling us that my son who is 10, has been invited to join the Falkirk Fury Basketball team. He's only been playing 10 months but he absolutely loves it and has been attending every class in a ten mile radius for the past while, just to get practice in. He has worked really hard and its paid off.

2) I made myself the nicest cup of tea I have ever had.

Tried to change engine oil after work. Using 12 volt oil extractor pump. It ran for about five seconds and stopped. Can't turn back on

Annoying because I had already taken the filter off!

Oh well. I guess I'll try to get one of those manual ones tomorrow. They've always seemed a better idea than the electric ones

On the other hand, I've been offered my speed awareness course so I can get that booked and sorted

I bought one of those electric oil pumps. Within 30 seconds of hooking it on the battery it started pumping, went a bit grumbly, seized up and then went on fire. Unless you spend a fortune they're very poor!

But in the U.K. we’re still in a mixed situation.

Motoring is especially mad. We still say it’s x miles to somewhere, our cars do 100 mph and 50 mpg ( not at the same time unfortunately), but the car has a 2 litre engine and we buy petrol by the litre. Tyres are 205 mm wide but fit 17 inch wheels and are inflated to 30 psi. All road signs are Imperial too apart from weight limits (tonnes) and height limits are normally shown in feet and metres.

We buy draught beer in pints but 500 ml bottles and milk is sold in litres as well. Soft drinks are sold in litres too.

Food is sold in kg but you’ll still hear people ask the butcher for a pound of mince. Eggs are sold by the dozen although you can get packs of 10.

Drug dealers seem to be metric though I’d guess that’s more to do with the gram being a convenient unit rather than anything else.

Most people can tell you their height in feet and inches and their weight in stones but not in metres and kg, and most men will claim 6 inches rather 15cm.

Land is still measured by the acre as well as hectare.

Energy is sold by kWH but you’ll still see therms mentioned on your gas bill.

Humans race over metres apart from the marathon,( and hurdle heights are in feet and inches) but horses still use furlongs. Rugby pitches are measured in metres but football and cricket in yards. ( the length of a cricket pitch is actually 1 chain).

Oh and we still have back yards, New Scotland Yard and Yardies.

I read once that it if it weren't for drugs americans would have no concept of the metric system at all.

In other news we cleaned the roof of the floppytop this afternoon using the handheld part of the BexBissel floor/upholstery cleaner. The waste water tank when we finished was a satisfying shade of mud so it obviously needed it and will hopefully go faster now*

I went to get some trousers from TK Maxx, I need them at shorter notice than I can make a new pair so needs must.  Anyway, spotted this incredible 100% rayon shirt on a neighbouring rack and ended up coming home with it too.  Not for me this one, it's for Pat, and fortunately it both fits him and he loves it.

TK Maxx sometimes has some proper gems for not a lot.  Earlier this year they had magenta velvet blazers with brocade interiors and I wanted one SO BAD but they were all both not my size and not my budget.

Don’t stand too close to a flame! Didn’t think clothes were made from rayon. It’s what tea bags Are.
