What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Loads of marketing rubbish in this article, but I was entertained to learn that, according to Vauxhall:

"We have the ability to share directly with the retailers live updates from the cars – from warning lights to low tyre pressure – meaning the retailer can drive more proactive contact with the consumer.”

Having a car dealer on the phone every time a tyre needs a bit of air in it is definitely another good reason for never buying a new car...

Oh, to hack that data stream and spoof the data would be fun

^ I know it does. It's also very tempting to reduce it to (HTG)2 but acronyms don't work like that ;)

PS, did you think the same thing about title of the film Gattaca? I did. I thought it was a nice touch to use the base pair letters to name a story about DNA.

No, I wasn't working with STRs when it came out.  Never seen the film so actually hadn't made the connection until you mentioned it!

Went to ACA in King's Lynn yesterday and the armchair experts were out in full.

The twat knocking his knuckles on the back of the TVR Griffith and declaring it full of filler so it must have been in an accident was a good one.

The look of confusion on the chap lifting the bonnet on the Suzuki wizzkid to be confronted with a spare tyre and a washer bottle was class.

I bought the Merc coupe for myself to tool about in for a while. Some bloke behind me is all "what you pay for that ?" well he was behind me so surely knew what it made.I bid £650... 50 quid more than I wanted to pay but heyho. "did you see the mileage" yes I did. Him and his mates start chuckling so I asked if he saw the condition of the interior."nah mate, but that mileage 200k". The car is 28 years old and for a car that age it's all about the condition. The car is very presentable and drives like it's done 50k.If Mr expert was interested in the car he'd have gone in the office and looked through the stack of paperwork. Most of it in English, some in German and also some from Turkey.Judging by the mileage the owner probably drove from England to Istanbul to get the car serviced.

I drove the car 50 miles back to the workshop and it didn't miss a beat.Everything works as it should, even the electric blinds, and for not a lot of money.Well the buyer's fee bumped it up a bit.

In the comments on the MoT blog. Just for the record, "CALIPER" is not misspelled in the article.

Sometimes it's about the little things...

Couldn't agree more. I've got a fair few things to be grumpy about but the grin, as small as it is is still a grin;

Yesterday after coming back from shopping etc... I came back to find my Rover had a companion:

The red Rover is an 820i owned by a local old-boy who recently moved near Bewdley from Birmingham (a bit like me) he comes to Bewdley every few days. I told him about my Rover and the free car park where it is currently stored. He got a space next to my car so I took yhe opportunity to take some pics.

What you may notice is that both registration numbers are similar both starting 'R' and ending with 'GD' which indicates a Glasgow registration. I'd like to think they both shared a forecourt all those years ago at Shields Rover up in Glasgow only to be reunited in a small town in North Worcestershire!

The old-boy did express some interest in buying my Sterling, otherwise I shall continue to hope I can get some work done to it and make it a rolling restoration.

You forgot the length of scaffold pole to slip onto the breaker bar for a little* extra leverage ;)

W124 coupe? Looked ok online. This one?

http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/en/classic-auctions/latest-classic-car-catalogue/saturday-4th-november-2017/1989-mercedes-w124-230-ce/ A manual!

Also looks like it has the rear electric blind- worth more than you paid!

Do you know what the traction made?

That's a handsome Merc is that, well bought at £650 if its anywhere near as good as it looks IMO

/\ That's Rémi Gaillard - I've watched several of his prank videos on YouTube.  Some are rather twattish but a lot are really quite clever.

Cheers wuvvum, I didn't have a clue who it was. That'll be a few more hours on youtube tomorrow.

Just nabbed this for £500. 2006 2.4d

106k with full history. Mot'd till Febuary. It's been standing a few months but with a fresh battery and a bit diesel, it fired right up. 7 seater as well. It makes me happy.

Toxic waste sweets ! Good for innocent elderly Honda customers when you unwrap them and mix them in with the boiled sweets on the table in the waiting area !

Grump that turned into grin.

Installed the new shower at the weekend, after letting the silicone dry, missus Moog had the first shower and declared that it only runs hot!

Reading the troubleshooting online one of the symptoms is connecting the water pipes in the wrong holes. The water pipes that are behind aquapanels and then tiled in.

Cue 20 mins dismantling it all swearing at myself for being an idiot and connecting them wrongly, thinking about how to fix it.

Got it all apart and they are connected correctly, so just means the mixer cartridge is broken. Feel like a hero for not screwing it up! fa53f4e55ad00813a791c80758462621.jpg

This thing.

£300 2.5 years ago, 847cc and it's an absolute joy to drive, every time I get in it. Wouldn't want to drive it to Sussex and back but for sheer fun on tiny Welsh lanes, it leaves the Lexus standing.

I'd argue the "more common" bit, it's a long, long time since I've seen it written anywhere with the older spelling.

For example, the MoT computer system spells it with one L, so does the manual. Anyway, I was laughing more at the grammatical disaster that followed the unnecessary pedantry!

Posted

I think most publishers in the UK go with a single L. I certainly do. It looks more proper.
