As it was a nice evening i met up with a mate who I don't see often, we were sat having a chat and a lovely Scottish truck driver walked over to us to have a look at the cars and stayed having a chat about old ford's etc for around 2 hours,

here's my mates car next to mine

Is the K plate one ex Ford Lease? I had one on a Chelmsford plate like that it had been a ford fleet car for BT.

not sure on Kish, it's nice unrestored looking though. Are these flat 2cyl, sounds immense!

Is she Chinese and from Leeds? - If so I know her dad.

Amount of recent Kia's I've seen on the hard shoulder. But it has got a 5 year warranty!!

Spent a lot of time at a main dealer - used to own a 2010 Rio which was a bag of nails - number of Sportages I saw come in on AA trucks was staggering!

The K plate was a private car but it was from trimoco in Chelmsford, I only know this because the old fella who it was purchased from was the original salesman of the car, he sold it to his son at the dealership brand new, when it came to trading in time he purchased it from his son then drove it until 2012 when his daughter made him get rid of it as he and the car were too old, buying it was more like a job interview than buying a car, the advert openly said if he didn't like you or he thought you were going to drift or banger it he would refuse to sell it to you, we sat and chatted about old fords and his time as a salesman at trimoco over a brew before we got to look at the car. The old fella had a lump in his throat when he looked at it for the last time, I made him a promise that it would be looked after.

I'm waffling on again

You are Leslie Grantham's henchmen from The Paradise Club AICMFP.

Lovely cars, especially yours. Great story about the old Trimoco fella - no question he would be very proud.

Spooky. I've just ventured onto this thread after googling Paradise club...prompted by seeing that Don Henderson had died and thinking...I'm sure he's already dead, then realising it wasn't him. Obvs. Great post this aint it. :?

Love these motors. My '92 GLSi was one of the best cars I ever had, part-ex'd it for a rusty MG Midget in true AS style.

+1

The roads will be a little safer though, as people think about the 5 year sentence just given to a hands free using driver.

Hands-free? Or handheld?

I've found a recent story about a five year sentence for being uninsured and causing a fatal collision on the M1 using a phone, but nowt about hands-free.

Out and about today in the Bentley. Horrible day, feels 'heavy' -  humid, overcast and hot so back windows wide open for the mutts and the air con on full blast in the front to keep me cool (I look cool obviously with my spiky white hair, shades and Marrilion blaring out the stereo) as well as trying to keep the rest of Torbay cool...

Driving along and noticed something odd on the air vents, thought it was rust (big round, chrome vents) but it was ice! :)

When I first did all the work to it and had it painted I sent his grandson some pictures by email to show him and got a nice email back admiring the work and effort put into it

I had never heard of the paradise club I've just had to Google it

When did takeaways start using city rovers? Popped to get my tea and saw one sat waiting for its next delivery

Where I used to work there is nearly always a CityRover in the car park, it did move around, but I never worked out whose it was as it would always be parked when I got in and still be there when I went home, sometimes it's there on the weekend as well when the place is closed.

The other thing that was there for ages was a Fiesta Van, we eventually worked out that it belonged to a colleague who had sadly died, his widow didn't know that he owned it.

That's just got me thinking, i wonder how many people on here have cars hidden that their Mrs doesn't know about

Had a call at work this morning from some nimby from the parish council. She was going to write a letter opposing some housing development due to a lack of jobs in the village or something.Anyway, my unit is in a small industrial estate with maybe twelve businesses and this woman is asking if anybody from the village works here.Erm,yeah one chap nextdoor, the electrician and his son,the chap from the bathroom centre, the owner of the plumbing firm oh and atleast two work in the first business in the yard.

Not really sure why this nimby phoned me but if I was moaning to a business owner about a new housing estate where the occupants will have to travel to work I don't think I'd pick an MOT station to phone up.

Think she realised when I asked her "where do you get your car MOT'd ?" 'well we go to Stam....for..d' "cheerio" says I and put the phone down

Are you sure he's not just stopped there because he was so desperate for a shit he's bumped his car up on the double-yellows and is curling one out in that doorway?

I needed a new electric radiator fan for the princess so I rang my mate who usually has something lying around but when I got to him he only had a 16" fan and I wanted a 10".

After a bit of thought he said I put one on my disco a couple of years ago but never wired it up, he then tried to remove the grille but the fixings wouldn't budge so he got a grinder removed the grille and took the fan off for me, that's what I call a real mate.

Off on a 9 hour round trip on sat morn to have a look at a car.

I say have a look.

I paid the insurance in full this morning and paid for a hpi check.

So there is a 99.999999999% percent chance it's coming back with me.

It's a bit pistonheadsie. But I have always wanted one.

Yep, congrats to you, Conor.  I well remember how good that day felt even though it was 39 years ago.

My grin for the day is unrelated, though.....I went to a Co Op yesterday and forgot my plastic bag.   I was juggling (badly) a handful of vastly different shaped purchases when the woman said "For God's sake buy a bag, its only 10p!"   I reluctantly agreed, cursing having to break my duck at never having paid for one yet.    Glad I did!   They've only gone and re-introduced the proper Co Op logo and colour that disappeared along with TK Bedfords and D Fords!    That really is a bag for life - its going to hold some of my truck brochures!
