Fuck a duck. It's the veg mate, rots them from the inside out old chips are highly corrosive .

Uh oh, Mercs insurance is up next month. I've got 3 and a half weeks to find £400 otherwise it's coming off the road. Sigh...

Well my A35 went yesterday, the lad had left a deposit on Weds and asked if he could pick it up next weekend as he was away on a family holiday for a week. Had a message on Thursday asking if he could pick it up on Friday (yesterday) instead. I had enough time to go around it checking oil/water/tyres/lights and stuck some fresh petrol in.

He's braver than me, as he was dropped off by his family and he knows that it has hardly turned a wheel in the last couple of years, but armed with a toolbox and a recovery card has set off down to West Wales on holiday in it. WCPGW.

As he seemed a good home for the car, I gave him back a bit of the purchase price as "luck money"

Spending day at friend's garage helping him change gearbox in E30 318i.

Someone pulls up in a 2001 X5. Guy bought it a month ago and you could see that he bought it as his status symbol. The speedo and MPG counter didn't work but he also noticed that some control lights don't come up. Took the dash apart and we found ABS, engine fault led covered in dark silicone. Cheaper than fixing the thing...

Also another local came to fix his radio but just have a look at his headlight/bonnet/bumper fixing skills

I've seen 306 rear quarter rust like that before a couple of years ago, I was surprised by it as well. Most French stuff, but PSA in particular, seem very good at staying unrusty in visible places.

Posted

I had to weld up a 99 306 yesterday in the same spot . Nowhere near that bad but the mot tester said he's seen plenty that you could get a rugby ball through !

Is it an SDI? Hows the Aux belt?

No 1.2 pez aux belt is a bit old but not cracked.

Replaced the brake pedal switch as the garage said that was showing upon on their plug in.

It worked for a while but came back after about 6 weeks.

Found out why the handles crack on w124 bootlids- the bolts rust!

Happily I have just bought a brand new replacement at less than half Mercedes rrp. Although I think they are now rarer than rocking horse droppings.

Doubly happily, no rust hiding under the panels.

That would be a real shame after all you've sorted on that car. What sort of policy have you got it on?

Meanwhile the granada needs a new set of tyres soonish. They're a mixed bag of covers, all old, starting to crack, low tread and all loosing air by varying amounts. For now topping up the air pressures has made the non pas arm twirling less of a sweat....post-4673-0-18700800-1437238534_thumb.jpgpost-4673-0-34830700-1437238552_thumb.jpg

Gave it a bit of a clean, and put some boiled linseed oil on the bumpers. The poor running has been pronounced by neighbour Steve to be a very worn / tired carb. E bay had a a correct replacement weber dgav something or other ( with a manual rather than auto choke conversion) jetted and set up for a 2.0 pinto so one has been ordered and is on its way...

Jeez! What causes them to rot there?

Mud trap, I expect. I daren't look at my 'new' one, as the n/s wheel arch is rusty on the outside. Fair play though, the old one still sounds mint when revved and didn't hesitate or anything.

I really need to get off my arse and find a cheap, white 3 door diesel hatchback now.

You know that way you see something awesome but can't take a pic?

Bus full of tourists. Spotted a Nissan Stanza up to it's arse in vegetation next to a Proton Persona. Now seriously considering driving a 150 mile round trip to go nosy at it.

I finally got round to fitting a new set of wheels and tyres on to the mazda - the 15" steels belonged to a bini but I reckon really suit the car.

glad I didn't* drive home from the track on these the other day

After a break for Mrs Ruff and I's 5th wedding anniversary, we had a quick hop from Lincolnshire to Leicestershire to have a peep at a car I'd seen for sale.

I'd emailed well over a week ago, and finally got a reply. Needless to say it isn't a perfect example, but it hasn't been messed about with, has had 4 new (budget) tyres on it as well as 8 months ticket.

I'm looking forward to collecting it next week now, likely with the help of @skattrd of this parish...

I too have put in place the basics necessary for collection capers. However, as the log book needs applying for, the capers are entirely reliant on the DVLA. Yes, the shambolic Dyane is coming to Dollywobbler towers. I suggested to Mrs DW that I just get a trailer and haul it back. She replied by asking whether we can fit four wheels and tyres in the back of the Nippa. I guess I'll be attempting to drive it home then!

I like those steel wheels on the mx5. A change from the usual minilites.

You married the right one there!

You can fit a set of 195x50x15 wheels and tyres in the back of an L500 Mira with space to spare, and the L200 based Nippa is pretty much the same size ;)

Well that's me home from a rather damp stay in Cornwall for a week, I've done 1000 miles this week in the Focus, I think I might looking into selling it soon as Mrs T is pregnant, I think an estate will be better and I'm looking at getting a Volvo V50, we'll see, anyway more importantly here's some shite I've photos this week, Cornwall is a haven of old cars, I've seen some great stuff like a minter than mint 1976 Volvo 244 estate and a white G reg MG Maesteo being driven by a old boy. Here's the ones I did photo.

This was in the Maritime museum in Falmouth.

And this was on the M25, it was like a 90s throwback complete with quad lights.

Cor, that green X reg Capri is a beauty! Lovely battered patina!

I should get a pic of it next to my Granada for that perfect 1990's council estate look!

Posted

I did get rather excited by it, it's in the village at the bottom of Glendurgan Gardens, it only had 53000 miles on the clock, and a sheepwool blanket and walking stick in the back, probably one owner from new. Lovely!

Posted

Yeah that Forest Green Capper is a great spot - used to be loads about in that condition especially the four pots. The other one snapped looks nice but never understood the love for lobbing Mark 2 grilles, bumpers on to Mark 3's.

Btw that white 240 looks epic on those rims - good work - 352/10

Posted

Btw - anyone else think there is something not quite right about that red Healey?

Did another video. Not sure I'm quite up to the task but had great fun shooting it. Last year.

1500 faultless miles since joining the ranks at CMS_TOWERS for the Mighty Pride. It's not really stopped to be honest. Finally had some space in the workshop at work so some minor fettling between hires is the order of the day.7893247457ab3323c1c10cff7413ce34.jpg
