I decided that I had been ignoring my project Scimitar for just about long enough, so time to try and at least gather some parts to push things in the right direction.

First up a big heavy purchase, I found what I think is the correct back axle advertised in the Retro Rides forum. I bought it off a nice chap called Tim who has a turbocharged motor bike amongst his projects!

Apparently this has good internals even if it looks a tad scabby....

So were to store it whilst I focus on finishing other projects?

Under the scimitar of course, I mean there is a large gap were a back axle should go, so that will do!

Got the shiny new injector fitted to the Carina today.

20250914_143505.jpg.9f5a729e229a7e6e95317e252cb72171.jpg

It actually turned out to be a pretty easy job - everything came undone with no problems, although I did have to get the hoover out and hoover up the leaf debris that had collected around the injectors and was threatening to fall into the engine when I pulled them out.

The new injector is a cheapo aftermarket eBay special (£9.89 including postage, believe it or not) and the O ring where it fits into the fuel rail is a slightly looser fit than the original, but the car fired up OK once I'd put it all back together and ran on all 4, and there wasn't any sign of fuel pissing out anywhere.  I ran out of time to take it for a proper run to see if it's cured but I left it running long enough to get up to temperature and it didn't misbehave.

Didn't really get any fettling done yesterday (apart from making a start on removing hoses etc on the Carina) as I spent most of the day getting stuff done in the garden (mainly cutting back the brambles at the bottom of the back garden) and then in the evening I went to see a mate who's just bought himself a tidy but non-running bustleback Cadillac Seville, with the notoriously unreliable 8-6-4 6-litre V8.  Be interesting to see how much hassle it is to get back up and running, but in the meantime it's an impressive beast - auto headlights (including auto dip), digital climate control and trip computer are pretty advanced shiz for a 44-year-old car, and then there's the acres of dreadful American fake wood on the dash and doors, the fake spare wheel carrier, faux wire wheels and mock convertible roof complete with fake ribs to make it look more like a soft top.  I love it.

I visited Portland (Oregon) about 30 years ago and ordered a cab. The company was called Veteran  Cabs and the car was an ex police car (think the drivers were ex police too) with the marking like that.

Apparently New York police , (and others probably) who used to have light blue cars, now have plain white as a cost saving.

Got a week's work doing entry control and rescue cover for a team surveying the tunnels that serve a hydroelectric power station up in the hills above Conway. Yesterday was absolutely minging with strong winds and heavy rain - it's all right for the guys in the tunnels, they're sheltered - I had a nightmare trying to complete my paperwork and hear radio transmissions in a gale.

Today though was lovely.

Today I filled a yawning gap in my wife's life boot.
Just call me Mr Generous - £13 delivered. All sorts of goodies in there - even a wee pair of nursey, nursey scissors.

Good to know they keep an eye on it all. Don't need another Dolgarrog disaster.

Sorry this isn't very car related but it put a smile on my face! Anyway happy 50th B-day to me...🥳🤩

Oh and, I may have accidentally bought another car whilst picking up mine.

The car, which hasn't been picked up yet because it's being used as a parking cone, now comes with a brand new, never used steering wheel, which was bought for it but never fitted. Seller dug it out from his storage, and will be throwing it in the back FoC, along with any other bits for the car he finds in his possession. He's happy the car will be going to a good home, as, once again, I'm saving cars from scrap. I think this wheel suits the car well, but it has the default non-wooden option on currently.

1.4 manual that had its obligatory OMGHGF fixed ages ago, but is now using a bit of oil, pissing a bit of oil, has completely flat tyres from being laid up for so long, no battery and headliner has dropped. Has alloys, aircon works, no rust and has been VERY loved by the previous owner! 😄

It’s sitting on the street and doesn’t seem pogweazeled. Something about metalic gray colors of early 00s and them being more resistant to lacquer peel.

My Japanese civil recreational vehicle ( ugly duckling ) with the fil discover new things ( normally broken and expensive )

Off course I'd love the modern technically advanced discovery but couldn't afford repairs or fear when next bill gonna be needed.

Guess ill stick with the 90s interior , slower jdm.

Update on the 75:

Arch panel looks as if it fits OK:

IMG_20250917_223456.jpg.1400a066793a84d7d413b12d06253939.jpg

...but in reality the back door check is half an inch deep in filler.

IMG_20250917_223533.jpg.d2af250b0dc3b1428f46dcb9d91ac13f.jpg

The line thats been cut here, only the right most strip you see is metal, the rest is paint and filler.

He's going to knock it all out, pull the dent and repair it all properly. Might as well do it right as its the only car on my fleet thats going to stick around!

Well, I was hoping it would be a 1954 Standard Ten saloon.

Rover 45s are nice. I had one briefly, a 2.0 diesel. Many years later, I used an MG ZS also Diesel. Great motorway car.

Would.

I always wanted a Rover, preferably a hot MG one, but I think that scrap money for something that is fairly clean and was really well maintained until recently is a decent ticket in.

The new sight screens at our cricket club keep falling over in the wind. I was secretly pleased to see one fall over again, as I knew we’d have to summon the rescue vehicle.

This thing? This thing is fucking ace. Pure porn. I’d daily it if I could !

More pictures coming in of the rear arch- sitting spot on now.

Im right pleased with that.

Gingernutzz is also going to refurb the wheel faces as they will let the car down. Ones got a slow puncture because of a corroded bead but I'll sling some gloop in it when I get it back. The other thing that keeps going flat is the battery. I've had the current Yuasa one in it for a good few years now so I'll get another of the same type as I put in the RR as it was a lot of battery for £67. I can't recall the name but one of you said it was a decent enough make.

Sit rep.

Fuckeration has occurred. Berlingo howling was not fixed by the driveshafts. The cv click clack is fixed of course though the play in the driveshaft bearing did not stop the howl at speed. Its now uncomfortable on the ears and can't be drowned out with the stereo. Although they have no play and have never whistled I suspect it's the wheel bearings. Also upon slowing down on the way home a new problem has occurred. Big time wobble. I think one of the old fronts recently swapped from the back has gone egg shaped. Further investigation required.

In other news shes stopped using the Panda because noise and then smell. Noise had been reported to me though not apparent when i test drove it before a week working away. It mow on start up whistles like a bastard. There was a bit of release bearing noise when we got it which seems standard on most vehicles I buy or fit new clutches to these days. Depressing the clutch emits a worrying scream. Its quite impressive. Am about to drive it round the block wish me luck.

Yes it squeels like a fan belt when depressing the clutch and there's a whistle present at idle which does seem to disappear underload although which engine reving its hard to tell.

Does not slip. Immaterial as looks like ill be having the box off so may as well through a whole kit at it. Oh yeah at idle the revs sometimes drop when the clutch is depressed and it rumbles and shakes. It's not enjoying life is it.

It's really good weather but the stress of impending PIP assessment in a couple of days has mucked up my health.  Yay.  Anyway, decided to entertain myself by doing a little montage of every car I've ever owned.  Still haven't owned anything from this century.  Shame I don't have a pic of the Sierra, I owned that in the pre-digital era and don't seem to have taken any photos of it.
