Mrs W reported a headlight out in the Yeti. A quick google said H7, no problem, I have a new bulb kit plundered from one of my WBAC purchases.

Went to change it and found it wasn’t H7 but Gas Discharge at how fucking much!? First price was £90! Fortunately found one at GSF for £19.52. Bought and will replace tomorrow.

Well this didn’t work out as I thought. Apparently, not replacing it immediately, meant I was being controlling! She moans every night about having to take our eldest son to various places but me giving  her an excuse not to be able to, resulted in this. He’s a grown man and can afford a taxi! It’s also highlighted his need to pass his test, which he’s acknowledged and is dealing with. I was just trying to give her a night off, because I refuse to be his nighttime chauffeur, as I’m already taking him to and from work.

I bought her this car and I’ve paid for services, tyres and MOTs but this pissed me off and told her she can pay her own way from now. 34 years together and she comes out with this! I’m so fucking pissed off.

Your stress will be affecting her. Her issues affect you. Seems a minor issue though.

Maybe, it’s our wedding anniversary tomorrow. That will be fun.  I’m just really upset by suddenly being called “controlling” , when I’m absolutely not.

Ive had to read that several times to understand how that makes you controlling and nope, it doesn't.

Hope things smooth out man.

The Audi got an advisory for the NSF tyre being low at its MOT in June. The other side is a budget but has about 4-5 mm tread so I didn't want to buy 1 new tyre and have an obvious mismatch across an axle.

The car doesn't have a spare so I bought a wheel and tyre from ebay. Its a Landsail but once I get it I'll swap the rear 2, which are 2 nearly new GT Radials that I bought about 6 months ago, to the front. The current wheel on the NSF will become the spare.

I still haven't found a replacement for it but I'm not really in a hurry as its such a good car.

Today, for the first time in nearly 20 years, I took the Volvo to a car show.

20250906_121920.jpg.fdde9dbc1412b568902f89da59e9591d.jpg

It was a show and autojumble just south of Norwich, about a 40 mile round trip so the furthest from home the Volvo has been in a very long time.  Now that the coolant leak and the rear brake pipe are sorted I feel a bit more confident actually taking it places, and it ran fine - I even wound it up to 70 on the dual carriageway.

There was a great mix of cars there, including Spottedlaurel in the Laurel and my former neighbour in his 1969 Mini Cooper S.

There was also a rather lovely 1975 Volvo 164E auto which I had a good poke around - I met the owner as he came over to look at mine shortly after I pulled up, and he said I was welcome to go and drool over his.

He'd spent a lot of money getting it sorted and it really did look lovely.  It had a great story too - his parents (who were also there) had bought the car new in 1975, they'd kept it for most of the time since but unofficially passed it on to their son a few years back - the official transfer of ownership was done just a few weeks back on the car's 50th birthday.

The chap who'd done the resto work on the car (and done a cracking job I have to say) was also there, and while we were having the conversation about the car's history another chap walked up and said he used to work in the local Volvo dealership in the '70s and could remember servicing the car when it was nearly new - he seemed genuinely excited to see it again.  I bloody love stories like that.

I took a few photos of the other stuff there but Spottedlaurel has a better camera and better photoing skills so I'll leave that bit to him!

Autoshite straight-six barge corner at the show mentioned by @wuvvum

image.jpeg.5a33144fbe1235e953d11bf564ac14b4.jpeg

I'll try and get a few more on over the weekend, as ever there was some great stuff there.

I couldn't be too late leaving, as Master SL was keen for me to get home and assist with a very local collection mission for his first second car:

IMG_9317edit.jpg.83b74d2bb3c7e0842692709626e56353.jpg

One owner from new, good MoT history, lots of stamps from the supplying main dealer until 2012 then from independent garages (same one since they moved here in 2014), 4x Dunlop tyres, clutch done 20,000 miles ago. 140BHP model with Premium Pack (mainly leather seats and a sunroof). A few minor dings and scratches but seems to be solid underneath and has the potential to be a very smart car. For what he paid I think he could get it done and not lose out.

Came with the original invoice, it was £20,000 new and they part-exchanged another Celica against it - R602 WNO, last MoT expired 2010 and CoD issued.

Original aim was to find one of the previous-gen GT models, but for the price it was difficult to resist this one and it should be a good start to his second car owning experience.

Jag has started to misbehave slightly.

Of course the aerial broke. A new one has been sorted, just looking at logistics.

Secondly, the rear brake light decided to go. Changed bulb (but filament hadn't detached) then a day later, same issue.

Ok, so upon looking into the bulb conductor, I noticed it looked a bit chalky. Scratched it with a screw driver and all seems well again.

Horn has decided to go to single tone. Not a good look on a big car. So that'll need investigation.

One thing that has also been getting on my nerves is the passenger side door wood capping keeps coming loose when shutting the door.

I removed the wood capping and a metal retaining clip of the offending bit that comes loose. I bent it slightly tighter, a bit fiddly but I got there and fitted it back, it retains well now. Job jobbed.

Offending clip which looks like its waiting for an answer, or taking a piss.

Sorry to hear about your woes @Wibble

Only thing I would add, when it's swombo, it's highly likely  it's got absolutely nothing to do with cars, headlamps, controlling behaviour etc.

Unfortunately that usually ends in the "guess what's wrong this time" game, which gets very tiring, very quickly.

Or the ubiquitous 'NOTHING!' when you ask what's wrong 🤦

I still get it occasionally, even after 30+ years of what I'm told is a happy marriage...

We're still together, because we'd fight over the kids if we split.

Because I'M NOT FUCKING HAVING THEM! 😱

Back in my 20s I remember dating a few women who acted like that. Not at the same time! I worded it oddly.

I left them shortly afterwards, though.

I just don't have the mental bandwidth to play fucking guessing games like that, and to walk on eggshells at risk of being shouted at for "nothing".

Why yes I have been recently diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum.

Yeah, I should probably have added that it could be a female way of showing that they're concerned about you.

Women eh!😁

An example from my own life:

"You're drinking too much" = "We're drinking too much" = "I don't want us to end up like my alcoholic parents" = "I actually want this to work out"

She's been used to having a decent income on tap. When you are on the dole wasting £70 to save a minor inconvenience isn't on.

I was talked into going to a cake shop miles away because it was on TikTok and while the kids piled into the shop something across the road caught my eye. I suppose it should be on the bargains thread but it's being treated as a spot as they can't be serious at the current price! It did look in very good condition but it couldn't have been much more new 😂
