Must be one of the hottest days of the year down here so what better than play about inside an old car.

I am slowly refitting the beautifully faded carpet.  I knew I didn't have a piece for the o/s front wheel arch but the bit that covers the gear box no longer fitted the larger Sierra tunnel so I have sacrificed it to become the missing arch carpet.

Using the n/s arch  as a pattern there's just enough. The last time I looked ESM the Sussex Morris Minor botherers do the correct shaped carpet in a selection of colours for £25.

I have a choice of ways to enclose the gear lever either a Ford gaiter or a MM rack gaiter.

So I tried both.

The Ford one was probably the best way to go but I went with the rack gaiter instead as it reminds me of my Dad's many Reliant 3 wheelers.

But then do I go Ford knob or old person spec wooden knob ?

East Grinstead was on Good Morning Britain, according to everyone moaning on Facebook today. We all know how bad potholes are across our town and infact the UK, but everyone local is going mad over the fact that GMB were talking about East Grinstead in West Sussex when the man is clearly standing in Felbridge Surrey .
Standing outside, what was a Fiat garage sadly closed many years ago.

You can buy bottles of resin only on ebay.

Looks like Boris arrived without a tunnel carpet or I've mistakenly thrown it out in the previous three plus years as my memory ain't what it was.

It's getting there though. I quite like the exposed black actually he was never ment to be a show queen.

I hadn't realized Felbridge was in Surrey tbh, have always considered it an outlying part of EG too.

Bloomin carburettor cars.  This morning was a bit frantic, set off in the Princess as usual, and she was not happy.  Stumbling, stuttering, generally being a bit rubbish.  I didn't have time to investigate, there's one bus an hour and I had five minutes to park up, grab my stuff, and get to the bus stop.  I managed to get to work a mere five minutes late and a work colleague was kind enough to give me a lift home.

Obviously I needed to investigate what was wrong, so I fired it up and... nothing.  Nothing is wrong.  It's fine.  So I bet something just got randomly stuck in the carb and what I should have done is hit it with a hammer or something to unstick it.  I'll take it for a bumble around the block in a bit and hopefully it'll be fine tomorrow.

I've never had to rely on a car for commuting like this before, it's pretty stressful when it doesn't behave, even more so when you're used to it being good as gold for such a long time.

Is it on points?  Sounds electrical issues to me - maybe a condenser

Short commutes are hard on cars. Needs a good thrashto get everything properly hot, boil condensation out of the oil, burn soot off the plugs etc…

Can this weather please get a grip already?

IR thermometer was saying 47,3 in front of the building I live in, IN SHADE. Severe high temperature warning has been shouted at me from Weatherkit for what seems like forever now. 
I understand it’s summer and summer is warm, but this is now Dubai or Cairo warm, and it’s unbearable in a place not designed for weather to be this warm for this long. 
 

Oh, and the bulb is not out, it’s just throwing front light is out error randomly, just for it to clear and pop up again randomly for over 3 years now. No, me neither.

An uncharacteristic flurry of activity at Chez Chod has seen a new EGR valve put on the Focus delivery hack, and since Ford are arseholes, a Forscan compatible* OBD dongle arrived this morning so that the new valve could be calibrated. Time will tell what irritating characteristics of the car have been banished by these efforts, but Forscan also told me that the clutch pedal switch is on the fritz, so there's more work to do there that might pay dividends.

The Voyager has also been spoiled with new front discs and pads, so again, time will tell if the brakes now inspire more confidence. And again, a fluid change is needed, so...

Note to self: the n/s drive shaft outer gaiter strap is more than ready to let go, so that needs replacing.

I wonder if a recent longer run is what's upset it.  Got it fast and hot enough to clear everything out and it was a lot happier.  I've got a few runs like that coming up on a more regular basis now too so hopefully it'll get happier and not have these grumpy days.

MOT failed on headlights and handbrake not handbraking enough, fixed the cloudy headlights and fitted new discs and pads to the back and failed on the handbrake again! 
 

I need to rebook for a fresh MOT now and the earliest slot is in a weeks time! Bah!

I did something similar in my local Tesco a year or two back, not recommended. There was all sorts of muttering and scurrying about to check validity of said £50 note. 

It was like I'd presented a $100 tn Zimbabwe note or something.
