Neighbour took me out in his BMW M4 and Audi R8 tonight. Both fantastic machines. M4 is remapped and really rather quick. Still had the traction control trying to stop it's wheels spinning up while accelerating hard in 2nd and 3rd. Only a stage 1 remap but tbh any more is pointless.

Went up to the local classic car meet in the R8 too. I think I prefer that car. Far more of an event and feels far more special. Even if slightly less power and brutal acceleration. I think similar performance but a creamy smooth engine. Also a car that everyone looks at far more than the M4.

Anyway meet photos. Not as much tonight as often is, as we got over late when most stuff had left already.

My neighbour has an r8 convertible in golden brown. Lambo engine isn’t it?

Not sure. I think that might be the V10 engine. This is the V8.

Remember when Chris brought an R8 V10 demonstrator home from work.  Yes, incredibly quick and nice to look at.  However it was really disappointing that there were so many squeaks and rattles from various locations in the cabin of a car with less than 2000 miles on the clock.  The ride was also absolutely diabolically bad - even after making allowances for the sort of car it is.  Cabin also suffered the classic Audi problem of being black on black on really dark grey.  For the love of puppies, it's meant to be a really theatrical super car...use some bloody colour in there already.  I'm sure you could spec it more adventurously, but it just left that impression that the novelty would wear off pretty quickly.

We both agreed that the Cayman or MX-5 which had been there in recent weeks seemed far more appealing.

It’s loud. He has several cars and the Audi is a high days and holidays thing. I am sure said it was the aventador engine.

My colleague has a V10. Incredible sounding machine.

My neighbours has the V10 plus suspension on it. Mostly as it originally had magneride - all four shocks were leaking and would have cost £10k in parts to replace. V10 plus is conventional suspension and a fraction of that. It's stiffer than the magneride and you can really tell it.

However the car is incredibly stiff structure too. Definitely could tell that difference between his wife's M4 (convertible too) and this. The R8 simply rides really bad as the chassis doesn't have much give to soften a ride.

The interior is rather dull but I kinda expecting that from a German sports car. The Gallardo is where it's at for crazy vivid interiors. But also iirc they were a fair bit more than the R8 new. Where as the R8 of this gen was quite reasonably priced at the time.

It's a big car too. He driven his brother's Boxster 986 for a bit and my neighbour has also had a 911 996 (was previous to the R8). He said that on the narrow curvey roads we went along, the Boxster is much more fun to drive due to being so much smaller.

The liability factor is high too. He's replaced a oil pipe (dry sump) that had corroded through. It's history file showed that pipe replaced 2 times previously in a 65k mile car. No real squeaks or rattles though. Iirc they were fairly hand built cars, especially the earlier ones?

However it doesn't get over quite how much of an event it is being in the R8. Despite it's fobiles, it is a special car. I don't think the novelty would wear off as, like a fancy smart suit, it's a bit impractical to use all the time. So the occasional use makes it feel more of a treat.

Loving the Yugo Cabrio USA parts bin special insanity. The only relation this car’s modifications to become a Cabrio have to Serbia is - it’s built here. I’ve ordered some NOS boot struts, and neatly packed, inside Zastava branded parts baggie is - SUSPA Grand Rapids, MI. 😄 The roof switch? Made in Mexico.

Regular Yugo certainly has no Grand Rapids or made in Mexico parts. 😄

There's a house just up the road from me which has an abandoned Audi R8 in the garden (or at least it hasn't moved in a good couple of years).  Not sure if it's broken in some expensive way or if they're just rich enough that they can dump a supercar in the corner of their garden and forget about it.

Ooofff, check out these beauties I've bought for my 250k Volvo S80. New full set of Uniroyals!!!! Probably the poshest tyres I've ever bought. They've even got little sharks moulded into the tread!!! If these get wrecked by pot holes I am gonna be inconsolable

Nice, are there any good deals on these out there? These used to be the “go to” premium brand for budget conscious shiters but prices seem to have gone up recently.

Went out SuperCubbin’ earlier and saw this. I suppose the “car communidy” dislike this sort of thing, but I thought it was brilliant. Absolutely would.

Mind yourself in the wet with these (assuming you've not had them before?)

Not because their shit, because their very good! I had a set on a zx and had to slow myself down in belting rain and flooding roads before because I couldn't feel or really notice it, but was going too fast for the conditions in reality... They leave a sharp jet of water out the back too, look behind you on the motorway in the pissing rain if you can 👌

Wore bloody quick though... But as soon as i fitted them it was the dryest summer we'd had for a while so...

A non productive day... thought I'd swap over the speedo  clocks on the mondeo.. bit of a faff but got them out in the end, put the other set in, all looks ok, but when ignition turned off the actual trip/total milage don't turn off... much googling and asking on fb mondeo pages don't get me anywhere, even tried a set of clocks from an st220 mondeo they do the same, I know the mileage is wrong but that's not the issue..  is it because from different age builds that clocks vary???

Oh and too top it off the rev counter needle is sticking...

And....the chemical I've used on something else hasn't gone hard...

And happy birthday too me 49 today spent alone in a too sunny car park.lol

Alright Stu I'm not sure of the actual problem here but on my Puma the mileage 'lived' within the speedo clock module so if you changed it you got the mileage showing from the car that it came from if you get my drift.

I bet there are some 'mileage correction' facilities available if it needs changing, I was lucky and bought a set of clocks that were within 500 miles of the car's true mileage!

Couple of spoons should do it.

@Mr_Bo11ox has good form in this department, changing tyres in a field with tyre levers and a foot pump, so this should be a walk in the park.

@Mr_Bo11ox will fit those with ease using a pair of silver spoons and a worn out bicycle pump.

I had a pair on the front  our Vauxhall Rectum 1.9 CTDi for a very short while before we scrapped it, really liked them as they seemed to grip but with a soft compliant comfortable ride. I had them taken off to sell, the sidewalls felt very thin, soft and compliant. @Talbot had them off me for his Mercedes S210.

Might not be relevant to your plight, from researching a fault on my Mercedes, the car saves mileage in several modules. The dash mileage also stays displaying ------ if you do not exit diagnosis correctly, particularly when disabling the SBC unit.

I wonder if clearing all codes, restarting the car then locking and letting all the systems go to sleep overnight with a good battery might act like an Alka Seltzer for the ECU and dash.

Just been offered this for £600, has an electric remote control winch etc

16ft by 5ft 8, is that big enough for the average car? I can’t tow anything massive because of the weight limit on my car anyway.

16ft is long enough for most cars and 4x4’s, 5ft 8 is possibly a bit narrow for some cars though.

My first thought is if that is built on a caravan chassis. If it is, I would personally avoid it as they’re not built to stand up to cars being loaded on and off of them - I’ve seen a few with cracked chassis rails from the flexing that results from loading and unloading. The axles and hitch may not be rated for a suitable weight either. The way the bed is built looks properly heavy too - might be a consideration if the tow car doesn’t have a huge towing capacity.

Caravan chassis would look similar to this (sorry if you’ve seen one before and I’m teaching you to suck eggs), and you can see why they’re not ideal for the way weight is transferred as a car is loaded on.

Like most much later rebodies it looks like the kind of car a Euro millions lottery winner would have bought if that had been a thing in 1932.  Very Pebble Beachy, at least it's not plastered in chrome items.2146_1308048010_resized_005.jpg.384cf1ae5d501d1fe213175dfbace040.jpg

That's the body it would have had originally, which fits much better with that high bonnet. It looks like they've shortened the chassis for the tourer, and messed up the visual proportions.

Went to the local scrappies today to scavenge parts to attempt a rebuild on the rear bench seat of the 2CV. A load of seats were cut open to remove springs and an Astra and Focus donated their spring frame things. I’m not sure if this will work but the rubber springs that usually live inside 2cv seats are all perished on mine  and cost a fortune to replace so I’m exploring all options.

This yard is full of 90s crap but the owner is starting to make room so many of the cars have been flattened after a decade or so of sitting intact, maybe an end of an era? The yard isn’t closing anyway but everything old and interesting appears to be getting bean tinned.

One car which might be of interest to the Laguna lickers was this Mk2 with a lovely cream leather interior, surely worth saving if someone wants an upgrade.

another go at bleeding the Favorit today. Started bubbling and level rose when stat opened but with this funnel I was less worried about it spitting out on passes by so ran with it and after about 30 seconds it stopped and the level dropped again. Left it running up to temperature and there were a few more bubbles and some stream out the opening and eventually the level started to rise again but didn't boil over.  Only slightly concern is that the heater doesn't seem that hot, however rad is hot as are all the hoses and non feel pressurised.  Might move the car somewhere with less chance of passers by and get the front up on the jack and try one more go at bleeding before giving it a run around the block
