Doubt that. Single use pump?

Is a thing sadly, maybe not that brand but we get them in. The hose all blocks up solid and cannot be replaced.

Utterly pointless.

Stopped by the tip today for a quick gander at the shop.

Picked this up for £5. No grass box but starts first pull, should sell for £30 I’d imagine.

They also had a Specialized Hardrock Sport push bike for £5, the front suspension forks were rusty and seized solid, it was pretty tired looking but if I had room in the car I would have grabbed it. Pretty sure they used to be a decent brand worth a few quid back in the day! Not sure whether to nip back tomorrow and see if it’s still there.

Slow newsday at the Broken Biscuit Company away from the election and the Euros.

Thus peddling a press release from JLR (the Broken Vehicle Company).

One cumbling national institution reporting on another...

Seems ridiculous.

* On £22.8 billion revenue in 2023.

Using some freakanomics -

There are said to be some 415,000 Land Rover/Range Rovers in the UK.

Divide the Million by that number - and you get...£2.40 odd per vehicle.

JLR INVESTS £2.40 PER VEHICLE TO HELP POLICE STOP CAR THEFTS 😂

(like the BBC use of the word 'invests' there - posh way to say spends in BBC speak.)

Anyway I'm off back to the kitchen to invest in another cup of tea.

Specialized are pretty middle- market in my experience - I think Halfords sell them which says it all. But at £5-er worth collecting.

Bikes are great so worth taking on if you don't cycle already.

More reliable than a Range Rover too. But just as likely to get stolen.

Be nice to think someone was investing a MILLION POUNDS in bike theft.

I just read that article here and went down the rabbit hole of why the guy featured was getting refused insurance (he's blaming the car but there's folks on AS getting refused renewal on all sorts of marques - so I didn't think it JLR specific). Can I get cover on RR Sport?
Anyways - I can get £18,000 of 2017 Sport covered here for £712. If I change to living in Central London with car parked on the road £2,665.
The guy was paying £4,000 last year - wonder what his driving history is like

A million is a mere blip too - cheap publicity imho.

Went to Zante for a bit of a break this week. There was a heatwave and so some lovely weather at 32c+. A bit of a shock to come back to 20c less in the UK. Spent most of the time just chillin' as rarely do I actually get a chance to.

On Wednesday we ventured into Zante town. A few shite car spots.

It will be a 1.3. GM diesels were, I think 1.6 until they developed the petrol 8v block into the woeful 1.7D (completely unrelated to the fine Isuzu 1.7TD)

During my lunch break I took the Innocenti's front wheel down to the local tyre place to have a new hoop fitted, and I stuck it back on the car this evening between showers.

20240614_204110.jpg.bee3a99e66ddc13e6b41228118397554.jpg

The old tyre was pretty knackered even before it got a puncture - it had plenty of tread but it was quite perished and developing some impressive cracks.  The new tyre is very much a budget item but in a car that weighs 600kg and has 30bhp I don't suppose it matters too much.  The chap at the tyre shop did say "we don't get much call for 12 inch tyres these days"...

Then I decided to take the Z4 for a drive to put some charge in the battery - the car has been sat for a while as it's not really been convertible weather recently.  Pulling out of the car park, as soon as I got over walking pace the dashboard beeped at me and the ABS, ASC and tyre pressure lights came on - I also noticed that the speedo wasn't working.  When I got home I plugged in the laptop and it gave me a fault code for "left rear wheel speed sensor; accident recognition", which was a little odd.  Reading online though it does seem like the ABS sensors on these can be a little flaky, so it might need a new one - although I might try giving the battery a proper charge just to make sure it's not the BCM throwing a hissy fit again.  That car has generally been a royal pain in the arse, but for some reason I still like it - probably because when it's working properly and the sun is out it's absolutely fucking fantastic.

Welcome to end of life, BMW Life 😆

I still need to intake smoke mine and find out where a large amount of the horses have disappeared to.

To be fair I think most end of life prestige* German cars seem to be like this.

My neighbour has a 64 plate 3 series which he said he is going to replace this year because of its age (he's had it since new). Normally that's no age for a car these days but he hasn't had to spend anything on it up until now so I think he's doing the right thing.

They're great up to about 10-12 years old and then just no.

As a long-term owner of old BMWs I have no idea what you're talking about.

I certainly did not* spend my entire holiday nervously glancing at the temperature gauge.

The car also behaved itself perfectly* and did not* develop a rogue brake squeak that disappeared when I hit a bump.

Still. It was all worth it when I dropped it into second to overtake a dawdler doing 30mph through Glen Shee.

BWAAAAARP etc

BMW fixed that problem in the E90 (and E60 iirc).

Fully electric water pump with a much more complex coolant circuit than yours. Yet they decided a temperature gauge is surplus on a dashboard. Not even a light to say the engine is currently stone cold or boiling hot.

Crap weather this morning has put paid to anything being done on cars today. It rained so hard water has got into the garage. Hoping it drains out so I get an hour or so in the morning, even if it’s just oil and filters on the pug.
