Accidental eBay win!

My dad had one of these when I was younger, I think he inherited it from his father and kept it for a good few years. He always had company cars so only have vague memories of the Corolla on family holidays.

It got scrapped eventually due to some minor issues like a flat battery or something, my dad isn't very mechanically minded and I'm sure he had to pay to have it taken away.

Looking forward to seeing what this one is like. Probably very dull.

Don't discount changing this again soon. The cheap MAFs are generally absolutely dogshit. It'll work for a bit but they don't last and often bugger up the fuel economy too. My TT had a BBT branded unit from Euro Car Parts on it. I was getting ~20-25mpg with reduced boost. Replacing it for a genuine Bosch (only £60 too) restored it to 30+ mpg and all the power back.

A lad I knew had one of these back in the early 2000s, albeit in manual form.  The only thing I remember from driving it is that it didn't appear to have a rev limiter and would do 70 in second gear, which was going some for an early '80s 1.3-litre family car.

Ooh, EB110.  Don't think I've ever seen one of those in the metal.

I think there was a blue one here a few years ago.  I was a little busy at the time, but don’t think it was running to hear it - I think they pushed it on to the truck.

Hi folks - did you miss me? What do you mean you didn't even notice!

Not been a great time, my daughter has been in hospital for last 11 days, she's OK, but we went through half a dozen GP visits and an A&E visit that escalated into a hospital stay.

Hopefully things have turned a corner now.

The i10 FTP'd on me (battery) while at the Drs - great - had to do an Autoaid call out because of my daughter being unwell and no time to mess about. Call-out was efficient - but did cost me the £25 for an 'older' vehicle. Tayna got a new Yuasa here the next day - have found their service to be very good. Also had a clean MOT pass on the i10 today, which was good.

Had an audit today from BSI. Much of which was spent looking out the window at various bugatti, mclaren and Ferrari.  When he saw my 2cv poster on the wall  he asked if I watch YouTube videos as he follows Hubnut! Although he does prefer the large engined vids ( Betty and the previous jag etc) and any mention of TWC makes him stop watching :-(

He says he’s far too invested in Ian’s home life- cats, dogs, holidays etc!

He also watches Modern Heroes (and Fully Charged show.)

his daily is a Passat, but dream car a DS ( this was just as a powder blue Aston Martin DB5 stopped outside the office window).

i mentioned that a friend  ( @Six-cylinder) had a new Range Rover that has failed to proceed more often than a Peugeot 404, he said that as a native of Solihull he didn’t believe it and that it must have been specified with the faults as extras.

all in all, not a bad audit.

My Mrs father died recently and left a car that we've been tasked with disposing of.

IMG_20231031_135221317.thumb.jpg.8211f5da0b4934ec563b10f8c4820600.jpg

It's a 2013 Peugeot 107 on around 75k miles and one owner from new plus FSH. Interior is minging, it's never been vacuumed and it needs a good clean inside and out.

The proceeds of its sale will go back to the estate. It's mot'd until March and could be a cheap runner for someone but I'm really not sure what to do with it as I can't see anyone wanting it in its current state.

Ideal first car for someone ? A good valet / car wash first?

Sorry to hear this. Our condolences to you. A good wash and valet should spruce it up no end. [If you don't fancy doing it yourself, then the local hand car wash would do for not too much cash.] That should be very easy to sell. Ideal first car.

I hope your daughter makes a full recovery. I haven't experienced anything more stressful than my boy being in hospital, thankfully its not been for a good few years.

Double the Rexton, double the ?

The one in good condition has a hole in the block and a seized engine because someone thought it would be good and also smart to keep messing with a manual boost controller without a gauge.

The other is hanging but has a good 85k engine

Thanks SP, indeed, I'd say I'm running on my reserve fuel tank right now.

Ever since the regrettable departure of the former @MrDuke Xantia from my life (as seen here in this thread), I've been craving some Citroen hydropneumatic waftiness.

So I've finally done something about it and gone out and bought this.

cd95375c-5157-1309-49a9-e918cdffd806_infinity.thumb.jpg.0a491c2aed658cb656485092444a9c1b.jpg

A bit of a shed bodywork-wise (pic is flattering), but it's got a full and reassuring service history, drives lovely with the 160bhp diesel engine, and generally offers all the barge-tastic vibes one would expect. Done 123k miles so only just run in m8, etc.

Being a 2012 model, this is the most modern car I've ever owned - and my first experience of an electric handbrake (initial opinion: utterly pointless, especially with a manual gearbox). But it also has a few more useful toys for my long journeys and the ride is obviously joyous.

One thing making me a bit nervous as a total amateur in the mechanics department, is (please don't laugh but...) this will be the first car I've ever owned that doesn't have a Haynes manual written for it. Anyone know if any similar alternative exists?

Posted

Looks lovely, it's also 6 years newer than my most modern car! I have promised myself a large Citroen of some kind in the next few years after fulfilling same for Swedish tat a few years ago.

When I had my Audi Cabriolet with the late model 5v Golf engine there was no Haynes manual for that either.  I just used You Tube or found the info online or from Facebook groups (scarcity of some parts was also added into the mix!).

Handy of them to install a wine rack right behind the driver's door there.

Prior to getting the insignia I got other half to message a seller getting rid of an e61 - I made them an offer. There was no reply.

Storm Ciarán - Keep safe folks...this appears mostly in the South.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-67271027

Amber warning of wind issued for South West England 03:00 GMT to 11:00 Thursday, and East of England and South East 06:00 to 17:00 Thursday as the storm moves East.

English Channel going to be especially bad. I've put off a trip I was making tomorrow cus when the ferries which aren't cancelled can't get into port - a few hours riding the storm will be very unpleasant.

It's complete wheater chaos here. We have had about 30 cm of snow so far this week and maybe another 20 cm tomorrow and then it will probably change to heavy rain, but it can also come as snow. If the precipitation that is reported as rain comes as snow, I will get a meter of snow in the next few days, but if it comes as rain, it won't be good either.

The weather is crazy these days, before it used to be stably cold here, but now it can suddenly change to plus degrees and rain and then it freezes again.

The traffic has also been bad this week as people are getting worse and worse at driving and that alot are still driving on summer tyres. There have been many accidents and the police have confiscated many driving licenses because of summer tyres. So one should not drive in such conditions. I miss summer already.

Well aren't I glad that I'm driving from Somerset to Northumberland tomorrow morning :(
