Went to the excellent* Frome flea market and classic car meet today. Not many highlights but here are a few. The P6 was my favourite, I am really starting to REALLY like these cars.

I haven't been before, I wouldn't rush back TBH. Lots of over priced tat. Maybe 20 cars there.

I think the crap weather might have put people off. Did you go to the radstock classic car show last weekend? I wanted to go but decided instead to crack on with the Midget. But kinda wish I went.

Don't really want to. All the little niggles I have lived with are sorted - just as I sell. But I need the money for my HGV course.

Better that than take on debt.

No I was working last weekend, I would have liked to have gone to that one. I must try and find a good ( large) classic car and bike show in our area.

My car is on ebay from tonight.

Sad but needs must.

Not looking forward to dealing with people.

I have set a reserve which will put many off and save them searching down the settee cushions.

2CVGBs Registers Day today, we camped from the Friday even though it was local. loaded up the CV and the XC90 with all the camping/children gubbins
IMG_2489.jpeg

Ended up next to a couple with a 940 as their ride as the 2CV was off the road!
IMG_2490.jpeg
Was a great weekend with mostly decent weather, and good people and cars.

My personal favourite was this mustard coloured Ami…. Absolutely gorgeous!
IMG_2540.jpegIMG_2539.jpegIMG_2542.jpeg

Some interlopers came too…

IMG_2492.jpegIMG_2494.jpegIMG_2554.jpegIMG_2558.jpeg

But they were all tolerated as such lovely lovely examples of French-ness!

Took the MG down to the FOD yesterday.  It wasn't really floppytop weather - well it was when I left home but it'd turned tae shite by the time I got to Milton Keynes - but the car hadn't had a good run in a while.  It managed the 270-mile round trip without a hitch, and when I got home the oil and coolant were both at the same level and the same colour as when I left.  Great day out as always, culminating in a ride out in a vintage Rolls Royce, although I did manage to lose my drone which was annoying.

Today I fitted a new fuel pump to the Visa.

Relatively straightforward job once I'd found a socket and extension small enough to fit down the gap behind the oil cooler.  Access isn't brilliant and my magnet-on-a-stick came in very useful both for retrieving the nuts after they'd been removed and, once the new pump was on, getting them far enough onto the studs so that the socket could take over.  A run to Tesco confirmed that the new pump is pumping as it should, although I had to abort the first attempt as the battery light came on and I lost all lights and indicators - I turned round and headed for home where it turned out that it was just a multiplug near the battery that had come unplugged, so that was an easy fix.  Great success.

Then I had a crack at doing the front brakes on the Ampera.

Shiny new disc and shiny new pad, so one might be forgiven for assuming another great success, but annoyingly one would be assuming incorrectly.  Everything came apart relatively easily (the caliper bolts were a twat but I expected that) and even the old disc came away with a few taps with a hammer, but the brake pads I'd bought off eBay don't fit.  Well the outer pad does but the inner one doesn't, it can just about be persuaded into place with a hammer but then it's stuck fast.  I tried filing it but my file didn't seem to be making much of an impression - I might stick it in the vice and give it a quick tickle with a 40-grit flap wheel tomorrow, or I might just bite the bullet and get a set of (hopefully) better fitting pads from the motor factors.  The thing that's making me hesitate is that the old inner pad appeared to have been sticking as well, given that it looked like this:

and the inner face of the disc was scored to buggery.  The caliper itself is fine - the slider pins move freely and the piston pushed back in with no problem at all - it was just the pad failing to move within the clips.  I need to get it sorted fairly pronto though as I'm supposed to be driving the car down to Somerset on Friday, although obviously I can take the Rover if all else fails.

Are the inner and outer pads different? Sometimes they are, and you'll struggle greatly to put them in the other way around. So I'd suggest trying the other 2 pads or even better closely examine them by eye. Don't assume the previous person put them in correctly!

Failing that, more likely is rust build up on the carrier, sometimes you'll need to really file it off - a wire brush won't suffice. I'm sure you know all this/have already tried everything, but just putting it out there. :) - the differences in pads should be obvious to the eye, so if not then you probably need to do a bit more prep work with it

Yep, inner and outer pads are completely different so no chance of making a mistake there.  The new pads did look fractionally wider than the old ones, and they're also a slightly different shape although there's so much rust on the old pad it's hard to tell for sure.

I haven't checked for rust build up on the carrier as the pad clips looked to be sitting pretty flush, and also the old pad goes in a lot easier than the new one which suggests it's the pad itself which is the issue.

From a local Facebook group, made me chuckle.

The nickname for Herne Bay amongst CB radio addicts back in the `70s/80s was `Skoda Town`. Remember those days when almost every other car seen in the town was one of those rear engine Czech models, beloved of comedian jokes? That Sea Street garage had a lot to answer for!

Under £2k each or a pair? Each is a pretty darn good price (depending on rust), both is an utter bargain!

Been trying to fix my bloody Royale-massive over fuelling issues-changed injection system, MAF, idle control everything apart from the fuel pump-that next.
Luckily whilst playing with this my Range Rover decides to go up in smoke. Amplifier unit in door self combusted (wet?) and has taken out the windows for some reason-fucking cars!!! Got to trace the loom now to see where it's burnt out.

Not really news but Adrian Flux remain absolute gits. And now charge 38% APR for monthly payment on insurance!

Been that way for probably a year or so, was 37.5% for years before that and even about 10yrs ago was 35%

Its around 16% interest

Ok, I'd say take the carrier off again, take the shims out and clean under there. Use a file if needed to get it shiny, but don't get too carried away by removing any material from the carrier, only the rust. I'd be fairly certain that's part of your problem but if you can't spot any differences between the old and new pads due to their condition then it's possible there is more than one fitment option.

Brake shims are a pain in the arse for me, your prep work has to be clinically spotless with an appropriate smear of grease otherwise everything just doesn't move freely enough

I don't think there's more than one fitment for Amperas - I think the pads I bought were just poorly made.

I took the shims out and ran a file behind them - there was a bit of rust there but nothing too serious.  There was also a bit of rust stuck in a corner of one of the shims which I hadn't spotted before, which had presumably come off the old pad.  Even after that the new pads wouldn't quite fit (they could be persuaded in at a slight angle but they were then stuck solid) so I gave them a tickle with the flap wheel on the grinder which sorted them out - all now fitted and back together and seem to be working fine with no binding.  In the medium term I will probably fork out for a better set of pads though - given how badly made they are in terms of the fitment, I'm assuming the friction material will be made out of old stockings and Pritt Stick.

Just outside Barmouth I spotted smoke.

I assumed somebody was buring their tax returns or jazz mags in the back garden but as I got closer it turned out to be a fiat 500 at the side of the road..

I wrongly condemned the car for being shit - it was being towed behind a motor home and some wiring on the dolly had chafed - the poor car looked like a charcoal bricquette once the bonnet was lifted.

The locals to their credit extinguished the fire with garden hoses while the owners looked on.

Sadly, I was driving and couldn't take a picture, but I was particularly impressed with a proper piece of chod this morning in Gosport that was a Polo L.
Absolutely rotten looking, but strangely alluring.

It was being followed by a 1996 Ford Escort.

I'm not sure if that says something about Gosport 🤣

I suspect the pricetag isn't the same, but that looks an awful lot like a terrible kitcar based on a beetle floorpan to me!
