Pity.

I love the diesel, I had 2 GLDs for work at different times, but the TU is much lighter than the XUD and handles even better.

I changed a sidelight bulb on the Focus this afternoon (how exciting)

However when I removed the headlight I noticed the high pressure PAS pipe appears to be starting to weep from the pump...

Sigh 🥲

My mother had a VW T4 that had been sitting unused for a couple of years. Both front tyres were cracked and the valve stems had also cracked so they wouldn’t hold any air. Plan was to get it MOT’d and sell it this Summer so took wheels off and got new tyres fitted. I wasn’t keen on state of brakes and I reckoned they would need a rebuild to get the pistons / sliders moving freely again. However then a local guy who had been asking about buying it for over a year now miraculously was able to increase his best offer by 1K when he saw us starting to get it ready for sale. I expect we could still have got more for it by getting it MOT’d first and advertising it more widely but in this case I was happy to avoid the hassle of getting it fixed up.

After having a cursory look around the Bluebird, ordered up some service bits.

Oil/filter, air filter/fuel filter/spark plugs and a new warm air hose, and a rocket cover gasket.

I’ll be fettling with it hopefully next weekend when it all arrives during the week, and cleaning up the engine bay. It still fires up immediately and I think once I give it a good service and replace the very leaky rocker gasket, I can enjoy the summer in it. Probably will sell it this year after I’ve had my fun. Still makes me smile every time I start it up and drive it though.

Bastard potholes

Trashed two of my newly refurbed alloys, knocked the tracking out and ruined a 265 section tyre.

Yes, seems they're a bit worried about annoying the locals,  but given most of the locals live on either the main road between Faversham and Ashford or Canterbury, it's not exactly quiet round there traffic wise anyway.

Our cars have to be good enough for the roads but it appears not to work the other way around. Bastards 😠

I taxed and insured the Disco 3 of Doom today so that we could go and take part in lifestyle activities.

Best load up the dags then:

Split tailgates are top tier when it comes to stopping the mutts decamping whilst I take the pram out the boot.

30 mile drive to the woods achieved without an FTP. Living the Land Rover dream…

We parked next to a pogweaselled ex post office van which I’m assuming was a good omen.

Lifestyle activities achieved, family loaded up again. Rare photo of my mrs approving of a new fleet member!

We stopped for a meal at a nice pub on the way home, and whilst we ate another good omen appeared in the form of a Lagonda. Whoever took this on a run to the pub is definitely doing things right.

Home safe, without any FTP’s. I do need to sell something soon though as I suspect we are approaching the point where a neighbour may mention something, which is the height of middle class scandal.

Far too many complicated suspension systems in that photo 😅

IIRC… one of the Official Monster Raving Loony party’s policies is that the roads would have to pass an MoT each year just like cars do.

Which is not as loony as it should be!

But there’s no money to repair roads. It had to go in more urgent priorities like a fancy day out for a bloke worth billions.

Some potholes get repaired you know.  Locally there's a bunch of them that had been steadily growing to about the size of a K10 Micra that it only took 2 and a bit years to repair.  To protect said repairs they've now decided to dig up the road around them for a new development that's going in.  Naturally this has attracted more potholes to the area that are steadily growing on the edges of the roadwork barriers.  I'm sure they'll have it all sorted by 2030 by which time it'll probably be illegal to mention potholes anyway.

Whenever the road gets dug up around here it's solely to lay facilities for a new development I.e. there's money in it. All the while potholes remain and increase in size.

Likewise. Scottish Water and Openreach carved up the roads, half arsed the resurfacing, and the potholes around that are wrecking our cars.

Speaking of the above, Scottish Water's road folk (I presume this is hired out carry on) dug a massive hole outside my Granda's driveway and then surfaced it back again, it's now breaking up at the edges a month or two later.

The 205 seems ok mechanically except for needing a new accelerator pump diaphragm. (€20 posted from France) It fluffs on acceleration and petrol is weeping out past the lever.

Similar affair down here except it's a couple of startup internet companies who do not seem to actually want your custom upon enquiry 🤔

Their name is well known enough because nearly everyone's house has had the road/path outside dug up over the course of the last couple of years!

I bought a house on a new build estate, and the road was brick paved on the ends (some kind of stylistic device.

When they needed to dig that up, they took up a certain amount of bricks, did the work, and then replaced the bricks with a patch of black tarmac in between the bricks.

I visited the local scrap yard today for a mooch and found they’re having a bit of a clear out. Lots of crunched up cars and piles of engines littering the place.

Made a loss on total monies spent, but a small profit vs what I paid for purchase…
