So this happened yesterday whilst bringing a friend back home following her hospital stay

She managed to fall down some stairs,tearing most of her tendon and ligaments in an ankle

Yesterday was a year to the day since bringing the Saab up the road. It's been my wife's daily since July, as such it hasn't seen a wash or a bit of maintenance in that time. Oil and all filters changed this morning, along with a coolant temp sensor that's been throwing an EML on and off. Finished off with a good scrub up. Hands down my favourite car bought from here.

Rover passed its MOT without advisories, this is pretty much unknown in my life. Chap could find no coolant leak, only a very gentle weep under pressure from the corner of the radiator. He tells me to continue to keep an eye on it. The original pollen filter was lifted out of 2 inches of water and the plenum drains were... drained. Life is good.

Unusually I had all four cars out together, and unusually they all run well right now!

I was considering buying some trainers in the black Friday sale last night,  then wondered how much I could save by buying on eBay, knowing how many people seem to buy shoes and never wear them.  This was the suggested first hit..

One thing I can't stand on cars is them smelling. Especially from Cigarette smoke, being a non smoker.

The Clio is smelling fusty from a few years of continuously being damp inside. So when a OZone fogger popped up as a black Friday deal I grabbed one.



The idea is that OZone is an unstable molecule and wants to shed one of its oxygen atoms. So anything it hits, it breaks down the chemical bond and thus making it less smelly. Or something along those lines.

Inside is surprisingly well made considering it's a random brand from China.


Turning it on makes dangerous sounds and smells that you might expect from such a thing coming from China. Certainly not something you want to be near for any length of time.

 

Going to give it a run in the Clio in a bit and see what effect it has. Probably end up burning the car to the ground. 😆

Changed the transmission fluid on the Granvia today.  This is what came out:

I think it's fair to say it was overdue a change.  I got exactly 4 litres out, which was handy as that was the quantity of Dexron III I'd bought.  Annoyingly it hasn't made any difference to the gearbox shifting, so I'm going to have to do some further investigation on that.  Next step is to get the clocks out and see if I can bypass the MPH conversion chip, as apparently that can cause issues.  If that doesn't solve it then I'm not sure where to go from there TBH - I can try and read the fault codes off the gearbox but if that doesn't show me what's wrong then I'm stumped.

Got a couple of days mini fettling in, extremely excessive sound deadening is in, theres a layer of closed cell foam to go over the pads still, and carpeted and fitted the rear speaker shelf. Epic fail fitting the rear window, i was hopeful the old seal would go again but it split in the corner.

Interior is relaxing next to a few radiators as per vulgalors suggestion 👍

 

Should make it a bit nicer place to be, anything to improve a tin can on wheels has to help 🤣

Three weeks ago the Xantia sprung a hydraulic leak.

I felt a bit glum as I thought it was curtains.  But £40 later I bought some compression joints and pipe.

WAFT MODE REINSTATED.

Access was a faff even though it doesn't look so in that pic (and fingers crossed the joints remain dry) but by gum I've missed the ride.  Together with the new accumulator it seems better than ever too, so I'm feeling like a right smug bastard this evening.

Just to temper such feelings, part of the rusty front wing finally fell off.  I had a dig and the sill and body seems to have escaped relatively unscathed, but will have a proper look another time.

Be careful with that thing. I used to work in a factory that had a few "treaters" (think 8'x3'x3' size) to prepare paper prior to plastic coating. Large machine, about 120 feet from end to end, lots of rollors plus two treaters amongst all the other stuff.........Ozone was a byproduct of these treaters and the process of precoating treatment. The extraction pipework (to the outside of the building) had to be removed every year, cleaned and inspected. The ozone rotted all steel it contacted, and had a peculiar smell. Everybody knew if the extraction was getting clogged (with paper dust) because it stunk of ozone around the treaters, plus everybody was getting a headache.

wonder what happened to the car they are off of? its still on the DVLA untaxed since 1981 but last V5 was issued in 2005 so I wonder if its still around?

 

also in the same series as this AC Acedes  (although sadly this Acedes was robbed of its mark back in the day, and now has the age related VRM BFW598B, it also had a close relative 1350KR, but I dont think that one is a survivor sadly)

 

EDIT: also worth noting that I think those plates in your picture are a pair of Homo-Hygrade plates, notable by the distinctive way they did the digit 8  (and technically a predecessor of the serck plate as the company was bought out by them IIRC!)

and before anyone gets funny with me about the name!

Just filled up the Mondeo - 25 litres in 120 miles.... 21mpg?! OK, accepting that it's a 2l estate and many of the journeys are half an hour each way going 20-30mph... it was returning on average 29-30mpg a while ago. Last week had the same level of 'economy' but wondered if it was a one off error in filling or something. I don't know these fancy fuel injected engines with their fancy gubbins (it's a 2l zetec)... oil/filter/plugs etc all changed a few months ago. Will have to have a poke around tomorrow and maybe some fancy petrol followed by a blast up the A1?

Could be worse averaged 12mpg on my last tank in the Jag😂

Ouch! I did once get 17mpg on a tank for the Bluebird - but that involved spending a couple of 6hr stints in a field on a December evening sitting with the engine running purely to provide power, heat and light.

With the Civic working reliably, 205 wheels sold, some back pay due, and a decent bank balance, as well as an MX5 to get rid of as soon as someone shows up with £reasonable, I'm looking for a fun car that's not fucked, and with much more of a budget than my typical escapades... 

Oh, and I get full fat cheapo classic insurance now cause I turned 25 two weeks ago.
