12 miles down the road from me and I did not know that Brackley had a classic car show, let alone one that was on today ?.  Nevertheless, today has been pleasant enough.  My son's friend dropped by to show me his recently acquired Triumph TR7 soft top and treated me to a ride of 15 miles in spacious, torquey comfort.  Compared to my son's MX5 which was sold last year, it was a revelation.  A sports car with proper tyres, compliant suspension and decent ground clearance made the ride an absolute pleasure.  The MX5, for all its popularity and sophistication, was downright uncomfortable for me - insufficient legroom in the passenger side being my main gripe and I'm only 5'10".  Actually getting in to sports cars with my inflexibility above the knees is always interesting.*   The MX5 required painful contortions whereas the TR7 was managed much more easily despite the deep sill.

She's 87 now and her family have persuaded her to let it go as they are sorting the house out, presumably they are looking into putting her into home?. She wouldn't even come outside to see me or look at the car as she found it all too upsetting.

You'd better do some video on the Scorpio. Folk LOVE a first start video, and barn/garage finds.

Went to the Retro Rides gathering today. Never been before, but the stars aligned and we happened to find ourselves in Worcestershire on the right weekend! Turns out it’s a really fun show, and I didn’t even have to lower the van to get in!

Heres a few photos from the show!

All in all a superb day out and chatting with Dollywobbler and Mr&Mrs Pillock was the icing on the cake!

It was the big Stonham barns car show today which was pretty good, over 900 cars on display, I was asked to judge the post 1976 category which means basically pick my favourite car new than 1976, that's not as easy as you'd think, a Cordoba beige Mk5 Cortina 1.6 GL was getting me excited with only 11000 miles the clock (coincidentally he sold it during the day for £7500 and was paid there and then! It wasn't even for sale!) But I ended up picking this immaculate unrestored Orion 1.6i Ghia with 32000 miles.

To be honest I wasn't really after a Ford but I'm happy with what I picked and the owner was a lovely chap who was over the moon so all was good!

I didn't go to a car show today. I did a collection though:

@eddyramrod just find a 300 quid relay and do that :D

HAHA... not bloody likely, it's a right abortion with a tiny fraction of the charm of a £300 Relay, never mind a CF.  No, I'll wait until I get a suitable buyer for Huggy, whenever that might be.

My elder cousin’s son( is that second cousin or 1st once removed?)  Harri, is off to North Carolina University this week. I’m not entirely sure what he’s studying, but as long as he plays football for them it’s all expenses paid. I mean all- university course fees, living expenses, halls of residence, flights there and home. He has a Welsh under 18 cap I think ( as does his sister, who is the better player I hear) and was in the Shrewsbury( I think )squad but not taken on this year. Honestly it’s the best thing he can do for his future. Even if he doesn’t make it professionally it’s a free degree.

My parents have just been to his farewell party. My aunt, his nan, wasn’t there - she doesn’t want him to go.

What's her malfunction then? There are direct flights from the UK to NC, it's a nice place to visit.

My Toyota Granvia is now smoking quite badly when starting. The wife suggested I take action.

Did I...

1. Get new glow plugs ready for fitting this evening?

2. Read up on Diesel injectors last night?

3. Buy this sticker...

“Fixed it, love...”

Been out for a quick run, it's not entirely happy, but starting ok. Looking at Nipparts, Herth+Buss, intermotor, Bosch caps - anyone got any preference/advice?

Oh, and @LightBulbFun can say I told you so ?

That's a relief.

Handbrake will need doing, though, as does the exhaust. Tester thinks "oil leak" might be LHM, but where from God only knows.

Picked a new old stock lower grille off eBay, not OEM, but given £15 delivered had to have it in stock given vulnerability of this area.

Car wise things are 50% not good.

Just when I have decided to take the plunge and have the valve stem seals on the Mini sorted, the Clio suspension started making a creaking sound yesterday when manoevering. Today the noises got progressively more unpleasant until tonight when I went over the last speedbump before my drive and I heard a crack from the front. No idea what it was, I couldn't see anything obvious. The car still moves about ok. To add to that it needs bottom arms, inner track rods and tyres. The Mrs was supposed to be using it for a few weeks while the Mini was getting sorted, looks like the Audi for her and the Corsa for me :(

Unsure how to proceed, may sell.

Unfortunately the previous owner fitted coilovers so I'd have to replace the whole lot as springs are not available separately.

Going round a sharp corner on the Bristol to Bath cycle/shared path. I slow down a lot for it. Child on his own turning around on the corner. I swerved to avoid but swerved too far and hit the dirt. As I was going quite slow, I didn't have the balance to catch it from falling. Fell right, over compensated, fell left and scraped down the tarmac, smacking my head on the floor in the process.

I only bought my helmet last month and it has a nice dent in it too. I guess hundred quid well spent as I'm typing this now and not in the back of an ambulance...

Beginning to hurt now the adrenaline is wearing off and a nice big bruise is forming on my leg. No car fettling for a while. :(

No broken bones that I'm aware of though!

Glad you’re ok, That’s about the only accident that helmets are designed for. Straight fall from stationary hitting the ground. All those sold here just have one standard so £10 or £300 the extra money just goes to design and ventilation not protection.

Not entirely true. You have to spend a bit more to get a MIPS equipped helmet. Also the more expensive helmets tend to be a lighter design, so reduces the weight on your neck too in an impact. Paying over around 60 quid or so doesn't get you much more though admittedly. I paid extra for the MIPS and it was more comfortable than some of the cheaper helmets.

The impact on my helmet was me coming off sideways and smacking it clean on the ground as I slid along. Going on the grazing on my arm, it would have been quite a mess on my head. Plus a fair old whack to the side of my head.

My dad came off his bike after hitting a drain cover at 20mph. Force split the helmet in half.

Best mate is a medical doctor. He worked in various A&Es in London while he was training. Apparently those cyclists that didn't wear a helmet generally ended up as vegetables or weeks of recovery from the head injury. Those that did had broken bones. More serious accidents he didn't really see, as they usually go straight to the morgue...

yesterday we took the Minis, Cocopop and rodney mini to thwaites mill, on the outskirts of the city. it was their classic car and bus day. the cars were o  show in the paddock at the rear of the mill, while a number of old busses were running through Leeds, either into the city centre and back, or from thwaites mill, to armley mills industrial museum and to the middleton railway.

we saw these cars there, including our two

the other cars on show frankly put our little cars to shame. they were mint, something our cars aren't!

its come to something wen a Dessin Dart and some poxy Optare thing have also been preserved, i rode them when  new and didn't think much of them then! but i also remember riding Bristol VR;s and RE's as well as Leyland Olympians and Nationals as a kid, all in United red.... i am getting old it seems!"

sadly numbers both of cars and busses were down on last year, i am hoping that it was just the week of crappy weather beforehand which had put visitors and exhibitors off going. cos it's a great show, one of my favorite ones anyway.
