If it does happen, can you give me a shout about the V70 please?

Sure thing, likewise if you happen to come across a decent diesel 600 or 800

I may need to fit some opening doors as well. Dukes of hazard style welded shut with roll cage in the way currently.

Is this an MOT issue or just a hindrance?

Just a hindrance, if the door is welded shut it isn't a door anymore. Strictly speaking you should also fill the shutlines to completely delete it but if that was presented to me I'd pass and advise as specialist modification.

Have you not gelled with the V70?

I've had a petrol 600 and the L series in other cars and a diesel 800, I like them but the 850/x70 is a cut above.

Here it is. What am I going to do with it now?

Could be restored I suppose, not too rotten and parts are available.

Unsure.

Looks great, properly sign written too. Deffo do the necessary to make it Road legal and try to keep the paint and detail as much as poss. Technically it has motorsport pedigree* so in my eyes it’s a real world works Cooper S

I like the V70 a lot, but driving an 800 yesterday has made me pine for another one I think.

Popped a tyre in the Carina last night during evasive manouvers when a taxi decided he wanted the bit of road I was on. Genuinely thought I had lost a spring. Rage.

The V70 is a bit too competent to be shite, the R800 reeks shite.

It's weird, the 800 still has the best seats and one of the best driving positions I've experienced. Must be due to my dimensions or something....

Real* mercs don't have mirrors because the drivers don't use them

SOC said it would be an advisory....if you get Daisy Duke to drive it in probably not even that.

I'll give that a whirl.

In other news, drove the Rover 800 to my other halfs parents today as I gifted it to her dad. It drove really well there, so it's a bit of a sad goodbye.

Would I be mad to shift a V70 diesel for an L series 600 or VM powered 800? I feel like that's going to happen now....

Hmmm L-series you say, Rover 45td here with fresh 12mths ticket, p/x and drive away. Just sayin!

I went for a walk this morning - nothing too strenuous just 8miles in Surrey, but didn’t spot much of interest. Here is the Mercedes gracing a Hurtwood control carpark.post-8687-0-14399800-1549802953_thumb.jpeg

Also two elderly brick railway bridges for Mrs6C to identify.

Had a lovely afternoon out taking the Xm down for a prospective buyer on here. A deal was done, I've been dropped off home and I'm sat here fingers crossed the Xm behaves nicely for its new owner and they enjoy many miles in reliability together. I'm sure once he's home his identity will be revealed. Now the money is burning a hole in my bank account I'm thinking I need something small and french as a daily driver as my back really doesn't like the c2's seats for long. So anyone want a swap with my c2?

Bled the brakes on the SD1. As it is a V8 efi it has 4 pot calipers with three blled nipples per caliper - the two primary screws have to be opened simultaneously. At least none of them snapped.

Even after bleeding they are not great but the brakes themselves need stripping. SD1's are not renowned for great brakes.

True, but that’s cos when they first came out everyone knew to GTF out of the way.

Viewed an xud engined car today (first car I've looked at with a view to buying for some years! So a momentous step for me :-) really liked it,only real concern I have is an oil leak on the engine.some seems to be on top of the head nuts, which would suggest rocker cover, easy. However also a lot on the lower engine mount/cam belt pulley area, which from what I've read briefly could be head gasket.anyone got any sage advice? Of course it could still be rocker cover, accumulating over time

Rockerr cover leaks are common on the xud engine as are the camshaft seal weeping. Easy enough to do though.

Got the roof down on the 80 today, it was a bit of a war because I didn't know what I was doing. It's actually quite simple now that I know though.

This is my first ever soft top car and it was great to just sit in it with no roof on. It was way, way too cold to go for a drive though as it was around 2 degrees maximum, even in the sun.

That's what clothes are for man, to keep you warm when driving with the roof down.

My colleague who did the same exam as me on Friday was not amused when I dropped the roof of the MGF on the way there. Once moving though, he admitted he was quite enjoying it.

Basically, I think split_pin needs MOAR BEARD so he doesn't feel the cold;)

It can be too wet, but it's never too cold (or dark) to put a roof down.

Meet the family's new (to me). 2004 RR HSE 3.0 TD6. Always wanted one since hiring an RR 4.4 V8 Westminster back in 2012. This one's not nearly as rapid, but it is a lovely place to be and travel in. This example is a 3 owner car, the last owner for the last 6 years, owner previous to that was the owner of a local(ish) 4x4 independent garage, so it has been properly serviced and well looked after even. Mileage is knocking on 150k, but it's already had the, ahem, gearbox rebuilt at around 100k and all 6 injectors replaced at about the same time. It drives very well and parking sensors aside, is fault free. No really. Comes with a nice set of 20" rims and 2 new tyres on the front which are Nexens, which match the nearly new rears. Oil N filter just done and all the other filters replaced at previous service. Spent most of today giving it jolly good clean on the outside which shows up that it needs some paint correction and a bloody good polish, which on a car of this size is a two day job.... Also fitted with a towbar and not just any towbar. A Westfalia towbar with 7 and 13 pin RR electrics. I think I now need a caravan, or a boat, or both?

Day 2 into ownership, I'm really quite happy with my latest purchase and although it has the potential to be ruinous to my modest bank balance, I obviously hope not and have taken out AA Breakdown Insurance to help offset some of that risk. While the HSE is tremendous value in what you get for the money, it will not be cheap to run in terms of fuel etc.

I'm not to bad with the spanners and from what I can see mechanically at least, these cars are quite straightforward to work on, so that should help keep the running costs down. First job on the list is new rear discs and pads to match that which are pretty recent on the front. Discs, pads and sensor kit was £69.95 delivered from one of the many LR wholesalers. Quite looking forward to working on the oily bits, next weekend.

So there you have it, folks. Meet the new kid on the block. Ronnie the Red Range Rover. Cheers Hawkaye.
