Great start to the day, drive ashford to canterbury to collect repaired ambulance, waited 20 mins then got took through to take back to base and as u can see it got far before warning light said insufficient oil pressure for engine, reading the worksheet seem dealer done nothing apparantly, so i turned it around and took it back, maybe just be dodgy pressure switch, id changed that if was me..

The mystery vehicle is the former AS bike C15 that I owned a couple years ago and sold to a friend down here in Devon who is not on here but is one of us in spirit.

We'd agreed a swop for the Renault 19 but on the way to the meet the C15 decided that it didn't want to leave Torbay and expired with complete loss of power. It's possibly shat it's coolant to boot.

I'm hoping it's not terminal but it doesn't sound good.

Been driving the Xm to work all week to make sure I've cured the lhm leak before sale. I'm totally reminded why I love the thing, really don't want to sell it now but health problems means I need to reduce the fleet to a size I can still maintain. I console myself that the Xm estate will be on the road hopefully in spring.

Volvo is bloody bankrupting me. Sort of tempted to swap it for something more sensible* but really don't think I should sell it, and don't know what I'd get either as not a lot else fits my needs that isn't soul crushingly boring like a Civic Aerodeck.

 

Old Man went off to get some vac hose from the scrappy today (anything non-holed is better) as I'll be fucked if I have time to do anything between work and uni any more, and somehow managed to come back with a Blue Point hammer. I shan't question it...

 

Bought a new fan motor for it too but it was fucking LHD and a complete mirror image. Transplanted the new motor into the old housing, it works but it's pathetically weak for some reason.

Chances are the new motor is spinning in the wrong direction, so instead of blowing into the car it's blowing out. I found this out while researching getting a motor for the Xm, there was loads of cheap LHD ones on eBay and when I asked the question why on the forum it's because they are useless for rhd cars even though they look the same.

More Turkish bucket adventures;

 

Went out yesterday to help my cousin with his small collection of mopeds he buys and sells. As I looked at the Turkish bucket, I noticed a puncture. Brill, thankfully my cousin knew tyre place less than a mile down the road.

 

So off with my nephew I went (nephew on Blue coat)

 

 

They look exactly like the tyre places I use back in the UK.

 

£4 later and the tyre is happy again.

So having gotten the mirror sorted and working, I decided that having it the wrong colour was not going to get the parsnips buttered.

 

 

I have no idea why I cannae get photies to be the right way up on here.  No matter how many times I edit them.

Anyway, having ordered some primer and paint and swiped some fine sandpaper from work, I decided that Jim Bell's mirror-enthusiasm would also be mine.

(I have never sprayed any part of a car before).

 

 

 

 

 

 

Still another coat or two, then the lacquer.  Not too bad so far.

 

Seriously - WHY are the photies ALWAYS the wrong way round!

 

In later news, I got a quote from the local garage in Southwell for replacing the thermostat, as I'm sure it should be getting up to temperature much quicker, and more MPGs should be achievable.

 

Part = £40.  Part + fitting = £430.  H-O-L-Y F-U-C-K.

 

That's his 'book price'.  Said if he has a look at it he might be able to bring it down a bit.

I have no faith in it coming down much though.

Shirley it shouldnae be so astronomical?  I mean, I have never professed to be in any way a mechanic, but......

 

So there ye go.  Small steps. 

 

And yes, it does look rather like a big purple helmet.

No, English signs just look more "professional" and probably "international" than a Turkish sign as of course they want as much trade as they can get, a bit like those "Solutions" signs you see on the side of many small trader vans in the UK. The place I took it to was a trading estate with lots of auto-related businesses.

Re the thermostat issue, Renault 5 'stat in the top hose? That's what we're doing on a friend's Astra G, on which the thermostat is behind the cambelt.

Ahhh, yeah I'd forgotten about that fix.  Would that work on a 2.2 turbo diesel automatic Merc?  Bearing in mind that I am a complete novice....

Also, would that just work in tandem with the existing one?

Went and picked up the new ML last night.

No collection pics as it was dark and snowing so nobody wanted to hang around too long

The actual sale had taken place earlier,and all paperwork sorted with the the notary

 

Its a 2002 270cdi with all the toys including full leather (heated in the front)

Ice cold aircon front and rear,all the usual electrical gubbins present and working

Fully serviced whilst under it's original German owner with the last stamp being only 24000 km ago

Drives very well for a 224k km car with just a couple of dings in the paintwork and could do with a new steering wheel

The Mrs drove it home and is pleased with it

She had a bit of a baptism of fire as it was her 1st time driving for over a year,shitty weather and fecking insane locals driving like.....well....Bulgarians

Dunno, may depend on size of top hose, but it works on a diesel 75, and yes it will work in tandem because yours is open all the time.

If you/someone tries it, make sure it's fitted the right way round, mine nearly wasn't.
