after our success on saturday, sunday we failed in our quest to get both mini's to murton park.

getting within 50-odd yards of the lock-up containing the orange mini, we ground to a halt in th eblack one. no mire drive, though the speedo was still registering speed even though we weren't moving, along with a horrid clunck from the car when the clutch was disengaged. looking under the bonnet, i found that the n/s drive shaft was spinning happily away but not actually moving the wheels..... seems we broke a cv joint, and probably shagged up the drive shaft in the process.....

bugger.....

well nothing for it but get cocopop, run across to the FiL's and get the "thunderbird" (or is t Blunderbird, maybe Chunderbird, whether or not you care for a metro.)

a quick turn of the key, and marvin burst (a bit grumpily) in to life. well we have ignored him for an age, or at leat a month or so. poor marvin....

Fancy taking on Marvins' angry little brother?

The shabby chic* merc is currently sat at my welders having it's rear subframe attached back to the car with actual steel rather than thin air and hope. It's going to cost a bit more than I'd hoped but it was a question of binning it for spares or export or having it fixed. Of course it's still far from perfect but it's going to be safe to use at least. I'm due to collect it tomorrow.

Seeing as I've mostly broken or sold my cars, or acquired new ones that don't have engines, I blagged this Impreza from my publisher for a bit. It's an absolute hoot, though the rev counter and fuel gauge seem to be linked somehow. It has a very stupid exhaust, which is a bit much, but I did enjoy making the Welsh hills reverberate to the bark of a flat-four Subaru lump once more.

Nice car that Turbo 2000, had they not paid JDM coupe money for it back when values were flat.

some modern ferrari.

Plus I've just seen over the road a Ferrari F50 - it's done 147km  in the las ten years of MOTs,

Now that looks mad enough to be a super car.

cute little alfa - race prepped and a montreal  lambo miura.

These don't seem to be staying as they've closed the truck up.

I've been in Sweden and Denmark for a few days. The shite pickings were a bit slim, but I did manage a few snaps.

Denmark offered a few more shite possibilities.

There were two other notable spots that I didn't get on camera, a Saab 96 and a Volvo pv544, but you can't win them all.

Replaced The Volvo's top and top and bottom radiator hoses today, as the original top one was starting to leak and they were both looking their age.

I should have replaced the expansion tank hose as well, but I forgot that it existed. A job for next time, then.

For reasons I can't fully explain, I put a (very) cheeky bid on a 1998 1.25 mk4 Fiesta with a mere 39k miles on it at the weekend, it only had a couple of hours to go and wasn't attracting much interest.  I then completely forgot about it until later that day, at which point I got an email saying I'd won it...for considerably less than my limit.  Luckily it's only a few miles from home so no epic collection and at the price I paid I can't really lose.  It needs a front wing (or a hammer), some welding on the rear sills (which I'm hoping a friend of mine will sort) and a pair of front brake flexis.  I'm hoping I can turn it around quickly and maybe make a little bit on it for a change but we'll see.  Apparently the interior is a bit grim, collection is due on Saturday.

The notification came through at lunchtime at the field of dreams on Saturday- everyone congratulated him. You can’t really go wrong for £40 can you!

From personal experience, yes. Yes you can. Even if it's less than £40. Even if it's free.

"How bad can it be?"

It's about 10 miles away.  If it makes it home in one piece without breaking down, it immediately gets into the top ten from recent years.  It still has its original dealer plates and boot badge which is nice.  Crusty wheelarches, no so much.

I built a fake engine. Now I'm taking it apart because it doesn't turn over. If it was a Friday or Saturday night I would call myself a very sad person.

As it is a week day I am just a regularly sad person.

I was a 'mad keen' Sparks fan back in the day. I am ashamed to admit I even had the hairstyle of the singer and used to dress like him. It was a short lived obsession (by my standards) but I still love 'This town ain't big enough for the both of us' and on the odd occassion I hear it, I am transprted back 40 years in an instant.

The Mael (sp?) brothers have a LOT to answer for!

Duff motor I think. If I take all of the cogs out of the 'gearbox' and nudge the main drive from the motor it will run but if I tilt the motor so it's horizontal it stops. Really weird.
