Meanwhile, on a near-identical dashboard, somewhere above 140,000 miles, I think an oil and filter change is due....

You might find that they'll give you trade plates and insure through themselves. Its not much different from trade plating except you aren't going massively long distances or owt. Make sure however that you understand what you are signing up for... some unscrupulous companies may advertise £x-amount per hour but once you factor in expenses etc... you may find you earning a lot less than that.

Interesting to put the details through the HMRC's much critisized test for self employment.

If The client provides the insurance and all the jobs and specifies how they are done in which order then sounds like employment and that should come with minimum wage paye and auto enrolment pension.

Now that Elmo (the Saab 9-3 convertible) is back on the road after the sump drop and clean thoughts turned to smartening up the silver wheels. Whilst not terrible, they were a bit flaky, with bare bits, furry alloy patches, chips and laquer peel especially around the valves. Spoiled the look of the car IMHO so....

Took 'em off, a good wash and degrease then emery paper and wire wool until ready for paint. Masked up with, err, masking tape and took advantage of the nice weather. A couple of coats of etch primer, four coats of Halfords wheel n trim paint (Anthracite, which I have used before and is surprisingly good) followed up with a couple of coats of PU laquer.

Pics not brilliant, but am happy. The colour suits the car well to my mind. Four centre caps from the Bay also.

Total spend circa £28.post-5532-0-33058500-1528283977_thumb.pngpost-5532-0-86501000-1528284084_thumb.png

New back box fitted also, due to crusty original. The twin tail pipes wont be to everyones taste but I don't think it looks too bad. Opinions may differ!

New boot badge also....post-5532-0-45050600-1528285836_thumb.png

The new badges look smart, the one on my bonnet is almost pure silver as it's worn off.

Portal to another dimension! There's no kill like overkill.

Mine blinds in with the silver car & none Saab style alloys to confuse people about what it is.

It's lucky I'm not OCD as every panel has marks etc

Absolutely, as I said in another non-car thread, this self-employment malarky opens up a lot of new incentives for a lot of companies. Hence when the rule changed there was suddenly a load of self-employed roles available. The plating company I used tonwork was mostly employed then they started to bombard us with with the incentives to being self-employed.

I think the bubble will burst eventually but it'll also sadly bring down a lot of peopke who are happy in self-employment.

In its current form, whilst there people who really understand the system abd make use of it to thier advantage,,there are also a lot of people who are finding themselves earning less than the minimum yet companies will threaten to terminate thier contract with them (not give them anymore work) if they; don't wear the given uniform/use thier own equipment. That's why I gave up, I'm now back in "employed" employment.

I appear to be on to a winner with the ABS/BAS fault - no lights on dash for two whole days and as a bonus, hill hold is working as well. Also, wanted to put the carpets back in but, wanted to be sure leak was fixed.... so I washed the car, seriously washed the car in the area of the windscreen/air intake vents. I washed the car so much the bloke on the hill opposite shouted at me for getting the road so wet his car was getting splashed :)

Interior, remained bone dry. So I stuck all the under dash stuff in and then carpets so it looks complete again. Then went and picked my friend Betty (she who is giving me the Fiesta) up so we could go out for a walk wiv da mutts. Then I did my good deed for the day and bought her (and then installed ) a freeview box. She is moving in a couple of weeks so Sky is cancelled and she had no idea how to get some tv back in her life.

Brand new windscreen seal arrived for the Princess today.  That's exciting!  I'll get it fitted once the Rover is back on the road so if I need to do any windscreen repairs on the Princess when the screen comes out it won't be a problem.

Collected my steed for Shitefest this evening. I was cutting it fine and my only other option was a cheap 1996 BMW E39 528, but I didn't fancy the fuel bill in that. Reason for fussiness was it had to be classic insurable, and I've wanted to try one of these generation Clios for a while.

Bit boring I suppose but it has Serck plates, and a snazzy wiper arm action. Has the same diesel engine as fitted to phase 1 Clios and 19s, and tanks along nicely at 70 odd which is good seeing as I'll be doing lots of that in the next few days.

I've seen first-gen Papa/Nicole Clios with sercks before, but never a Clio II. Looks good against the curves. Bonus giffer poppy too.

It's actually quite tidy and has plenty of giffer touches (carpet off cuts in the boot for example) although it'd benefit from some OE trimz.

The Rover has a massive blue shagpile cutting in the boot, that covers the whole thing  no way I'm getting rid.

Having tried to find the kit recommendation thread and failed miserably, can anyone recommend me a radio aerial, either internal or windscreen mounted? The cable routing on the R8 is just absurd and my pattern aerial didn't even fit.

Failing that, a decent quality DAB head unit and windscreen aerial? 6Music and the Absolute decade stations on the move would be more than I could ever ask for.

ETA: this thread has passed 50k posts

I have a near identical fly killer transformer (the top one)

mine has a built in capacitor based voltage doubler which gives it a nice snappy arc

I also once shoved 600V up its 240V clacker, to say it produced a nasty arc would be an understatement  surprisingly it did not blow it self up during that probably due to my 600V source being limited to 900Ma (I was using an old 180W Low pressure sodium leak transformer ballast)

but if you really want to die I mean upgrade your insect killer/zapper may I recommend using MOT? and not the car kind... :) 2100V at 1 Amp should fry pretty much anything including people...

Lovely.  I've just started noticing these in the last couple of years or so - as much as their predecessor in fairness.  Hope it serves you well!
