What capacity is an R8 tank? I filled it from empty-ish (there's no light, and it took 35 litres) and after 300 miles it's back down to E. That's 39mpg, that can't be right, my foot is too heavy.

Skoda 'pedal rubbers'.....

I posted [long ago] about my local Skoda man - I had 136sal then 130Rapid - of servicing he once got (Skoda) stock of rubbers as a 'big bag of.. around £4'... Now (VW) I order a pair / shrink packed for about £more :(

Aye....

It's pretty small - I only managed to get about £30 in my Cabriolet the other day despite being sure it was pretty empty!

Does quite well on fuel for an old girl too

Well at shitefest I got talking to djimbob ,whilst marvelling at his camper transit. I was talking about my dilema at only being able to have a small second car due to driveway space. Lol and behold he had a solution . The camp pug 206 cabriolet ,ex Mr bv's. So after debating man maths with new pod I came home and decided now was the time for a small camp cabriolett. So a price agreed to and I shall be winging my way to Yorkshire on Tuesday to collect said fine vehicle. I allready have a small dog to put on the front seat for general pouncing about. Get me.

So basically, the logic went: If you can't have a camper van, get a camp car? Faultless! :D

Well I've made a decision, shonky the bx is going to attempt to get me to Cornwall tomorrow. Luckily I'm a member of two breakdown services( a senior moment) so hopefully when it inevitable springs a leak somewhere I should get home.

I think seizure is imminent. The alloys and tyres are good so there's £100, the turbo is brand new and literally only on the car so hopefully I'd get £150 for that. Battery / cat and scrap the rest I guess

Dont forget cooking, using proper* cooking oil...

Not included is useing the spare tyre of the 316 as a 'bench' for the stove, resulting in it getting covered in fat and making the boot smell like a fry up. (not a bad thing actually)

And me getting board halfway the the night, resulting in me flicking threw the back pages to find an escort...

Having destroyed my last (modern) two petrol lawnmowers (one needed cable ties, clothes pegs and bits of wood to keep it running) I decided to lash out on another one.

Obvs. like it doesn't actually work, and that trolley thing isn't included.

You could phone both and run a sweepstake on which one turns up first!

Yeah, don't do that. Apparently, people actually do this (well, not the sweepstake part) and it rather upsets them!

I have insured gaybod the pug ,which I am collecting tomorrow from djimbob. Was going to wait and tax it tomorrow with the slip. However my lad tells me if I tax it online and set up a direct debit . They take money after 30 days. So he says you then cancel direct debit online after 28 days and then set up a new one. So car shows has taxed but you don't pay. Is this true or will MI5 come hammering my door down at 5 am.

Brim it again & see how much goes in, it's the only way to get a reasonably accurate figure. Autos aren't normally too bad on a long run, once you're up to speed the torque converter locks up & it'll do about as well as a manual.

Yesterday afternoon I passed a grey Tatra 603 in oily rag condition going through Hagley. Does that description ring a bell with anyone, has/did Sam Glover of this parish own one?

I can't afford to!

The Octavia's gone...on loan to my sister while she moves house as her car is too small to cope with all the boxes and crap she's ferrying around at the moment.  This means I have custody of this fine machine for the next month or so...

Beast ! and a really easy car to remove driveshafts from  :-D  :-D  :-D

You, sir, have a good memory :D

In my defence, even the mechanic I took it to had a fight to get them off, on the other hand it's not put a foot wrong since in the nearly 2 years since the clutch was done.  Due another service in the next couple of months, I'll give it a coolant flush on top of the usual oil and filters but otherwise it wants for nothing much at all.  70k on the clock now and still feels like a brand new car, barely audible at tickover and totally reliable - surprisingly roomy for passengers too, although the boot space is comically small as a result.  Hard not to like it a bit really.

One of my neighbours used to have one of those with a homemade 12v conversion, just a motor and car battery strapped on in place of the engine!

No, they'll know when they taxed it from, and there'll be an outstanding amount since you cancelled the DD so they'll send you a letter asking for it.

Not sure what the gain is cancelling the DD, it just screws it all up
